Skip to comments.Obama mulls giving Moscow data on missile defense
Posted on 03/06/2012 7:02:13 PM PST by ColdOne
(Reuters) - The Obama administration disclosed on Tuesday that it is considering sharing some classified U.S. data as part of an effort to allay Russian concerns about a controversial antimissile shield.
The administration is continuing negotiations begun under former President George W. Bush on a defense technical cooperation agreement with Moscow that could include limited classified data, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Brad Roberts told a House of Representatives' Armed Services subcommittee.
He gave no details on the sort of data that might be shared under such an agreement.
Russia strongly opposes the U.S.-engineered bulwark being built in and around Europe against ballistic missiles that could be fired by countries like Iran.
Moscow fears that such a shield could grow strong enough over time to undermine Moscow's own nuclear deterrent force and has threatened to deploy missiles of its own as a counter.

For your list.
Add treason to Owebama’s high crimes and misdemeanors. .
TREASON — It sure fits the pattern of Obama and his administration.
This bass turd is going to get us all killed! Of course, that’s probably his plan.
Words fail me.
Wants to destroy all but about 300 of our warheads.
Mulls giving our defense technology to Russia.
This guy should be run out of the nation on a rail.
Not surprising. After all Clinton gave secrets to the Chicoms. I’m actually surprised the technical specifications haven’t already been shared.
This cs has to be stopped. I am not sure we can wait until election, by then it may be too late.
We need the House to take action. NOW, but we haven’t got anyone there with any nerve.
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of general interest.
To be frank, every single thing Obama has done since taking office, has seemed to this poster to be sabotage.
Every single thing.
If 0!bama was as smart as he pretends to be, he would force Putin and the russkies to follow through with their threatened buildup. Why should we let him bankrupt just us? Let’s run the russians into the ground again!
I agree. It amazes me we have come to this, and the Republican party’s collective alarm clock still hasn’t gone off.
It seriously makes you wonder what it would take to rile the Republicans and get them off their duff, if this guy hasn’t done it by now.
First of all, Russia is probably acting like they want it but already have it. Secondly, China would gladly give it to Russia so they don’t need to obtain it officially. Lastly, what reason would 0bama have to give it to Russia other than to further weaken our defensive capabilities?
Why doesn’t Obama just order all our nuclear missiles to be aimed at ourselves, and save the Russians all the time and effort?
Why doesn’t Obama just order all our nuclear missiles to be aimed at ourselves, and save the Russians all the time and effort?
” - - - (Reuters) - The Obama administration disclosed on Tuesday that it is considering sharing some classified U.S. data as part of an effort to allay Russian concerns about a controversial antimissile shield.”
Is this a good enough reason to Impeach Bolshevik Chairman Obama?
Reuters can't resist trying to pin this stupidity on Bush. Come on, guys - grow up - Obama is doing this because he WANTS to do it. Bush has been gone for years.
MOLES are rodents.
Is there a connection here?
Is there NO ONE IN OUR MILITARY THAT WILL ARREST THIS TREASONIST PRESIDENT? WHAT MORE PROOF DO THEY NEED THAT HE IS THE ULTIMATE ENEMY OF OUR COUNTRY (not to mention holding the office illegally)?
After all, Bill and Hillary Clinton gave our top missle technology to China in exchange for some campaign money.
hussein is giving away, literally giving away the security of the homeland. This cannot be allowed. Congress needs to get off their collective fat backsides and tell him in no uncertain terms a lifetime in a prison cell awaits him if he follows through with this treasonous plan.
Why would we spend money for a shield against Russian missiles then give the data to get around it?
And from the way I read this W started it.
Thanks for the heads up Army Air Corps
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I couldn’t agree more. Sadly, the Republican party hasn’t listened to me for decades. We were damned lucky to get Ronald Reagan pushed through against the elite’s wishes.
Since then, whew...
It’s official-we are all crazy now.
We must be-nothing this man does makes sense.
I'm sure other things could be auctioned off too!!
Of course everything he does make sense. Total sense, since his goal is the destruction of the United States of America.
It’s gotten to the point I hate to even hear his name.
It’s gotten to the point I hate to even hear his name. The Pretender in Chief that is.
Obama Plotting Treason!"
We should be glad he wants to destroy them instead of giving them to the russians
He’s not done yet. LOL
With this guy, who knows?
Appeasement: From ObamaCare to recess appointments, honoring the Constitution has not been an administration hallmark. But when it comes to betraying secrets to mollify the Russians, it becomes a document the president hides behind.
It was bad enough that the 2012 defense authorization bill signed by President Obama set America on a downward spiral of military mediocrity.
He also issued a signing statement, something he once opposed, saying that language in the bill aimed at protecting top-secret technical data on the U.S. Standard Missile-3 linchpin of our missile defense might impinge on his constitutional foreign-policy authority.
Section 1227 of the defense law prohibits spending any funds that would be used to give Russian officials access to sensitive missile-defense technology as part of a cooperation agreement without first sending Congress a report identifying the specific secrets, how they'd be used and steps to protect the data from compromise.
The president is required to certify that any technology shared will not be passed on to third parties such as China, North Korea or Iran, that the Russians will not use transferred secrets to develop countermeasures and that the Russians are reciprocating in sharing missile-defense technology.

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs
February 29, 2008 :: News
A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.
The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:
Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.
First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[not win it -etl]
Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.
I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.
I will not weaponize space.
I will slow our development of future combat systems.
And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.
Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert [they are NOT on "hair-trigger alert" now -etl], and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.
You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China's Growing Military Space Power
By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008
GOLDEN, Colorado A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.
Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.
Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."

How about this deal: we keep the missile data and give them O zero.
I don’t understand what gives the Russians so much anxiety
about a missile defense system that, for years, Washington liberals keep insisting won’t work.
Quite clearly, any such act would be treason.
Not that it matters to Hussein, as busy as he is doing his level best to utterly destroy America just as quickly as he can manage it.
From the article:
“The president is required to certify that any technology shared will not be passed on to third parties such as China, North Korea or Iran, that the Russians will not use transferred secrets to develop countermeasures and that the Russians are reciprocating in sharing missile-defense technology.”
So we’re supposed to just trust the Russians & Obama on this one? Are Obama & Putin going to make a “pinky-promise”?
Just like the "anti-war" movement, the Commie left is behind the "anti-nuke" and anti-missile defense movements. Their 'Useful Idiots' (Liberals) simply follow along. The Commie left know the systems will work. That's why they want them shut down. The naive/ignorant UI libs are duped into actually believing they won't work, much as their duped into thinking the "anti-war" movement is really about peace, love and togetherness. Meanwhile the Commies behind it worship monsters like Mao, Che, Castro and Stalin, while despising the US. Hardly men of peace, love and togetherness. Libs are more stupid than anything else.
It seriously makes me want to find another party.
The Republicans we elect are not doing what we send them to do.
In fact I don’t see them doing anything.
You sure hit the nail on the head.
You know, I rake the RNC over the coals continually. It’s not so much it can do everything for us. It’s that it roots for the wrong people. The Republican leadership roots for the wrong people.
Neither of these entities talk up Conservatism or Conservative candidates. That’s where they lose me.
In my own state California, the Republican leadership is invisible. Does it exist or doesn’t it? Who would know? Not a peep comes out of them when good measures are on the ballot. Good candidates come and go. The leadership in the state is mute. Bring on a guy like Schwarzenegger (or more accurately, recruit the guy), and they drop everything to talk him up non-stop.
When the proposition on the ballot offered up open primaries with crossover party voting, the leadership said bupkis. I have no use for these folks. That’s why I said our state would be better off if we expelled them, and blocked re-entry at our border. As for other RINOs from back East, block them too.
We have been betrayed by them for the last time.
In my states of Maryland the Republicans party is also mute.
The National Republican Party ignores us like we do not exist.
National Republican candidates don’t even pay us a visit, and we are right around the corner from DC. I don’t ever remember attending a Republican rally, because I don’t remember a Republican Rally. We did have a few when Charles Lollar ran against Steny Hoyer but they were local GWB didnt bother to come in support of Mr. Lollar against the 2nd highest ranking Democrat in the House.
Idon’t expect we will see any Republican candidate in Md. again this year when our primary is April 3rd.
Ya got that right hal.
I hear ya. Here we are the largest state in the union with near 54 electoral votes, and the only rally here is when a Republican drops in state for a few hours to charge a year’s salary for most citizens, for dinner.
Off he goes, to spend the tens of millions in other states.
All they really deserve is a swift kick in the family jewels.
My state has more Mexican citizens that a number of Mexican states, and this guy won’t even show up to help a Republican candidate for Governor for more than an hour or two, if that.
We are in essence a state without a country. No loud voice comes to California and runs on Conservative ideals. The Republican in-state leaders don’t support Conservative ideals or those who hold them. And then the good citizens of California are blamed for not supporting Conservative ideals NEVER presented to them with a loud assertive voice.
Candidate Simon received almost no support. Had he been elected, the state would have avoided the melt down that led to Schwarzenegger, which led to Jerry Brown two.
The Republican party has nearly destroyed this state. They surrendered it to the Democrats and a third world hovel.
