The lawyer for the North Miami Senior High School valedictorian facing deportation confirmed Tuesday that she is getting a two-year waiver to stay in the United States.
As a result of her stay extension, Daniela Pelaez and her family plan to fly to Washington Wednesday to meet with Senator Marco Rubio.
Pelaez said she is "truly grateful for all the help."
Before her reprieve, Pelaez told NBC 6 in an exclusive interview Tuesday night, "I just thought my dreams were shattered," as she contemplated returning to Colombia and its different education system.

This is what is wrong.....Lawlesness.Sorry, Goodbye.
Laws only apply to the masses - make enough noise and the individual gets a waiver ...
Who's paying for it. Also, would Rubio meet with them if their last name was Pulaski, O'Bannon, Chang, Schultz, etc?
South Florida media is making this a cause celeb...I believe it is an attempt to influence public opinion regarding mass amnesty.
RARELY do the media emphasize the violent crimes committed by illegal aliens. They can ONLY FIND poor little children who are being victimized.
Now this girl may have a case—even Marco Rubio thinks so, and I respect him. The bigger picture is the lame job journalists do and how they work with liberal politicians to advance an agenda.
She needs to have a chat with her ILLEGAL parents about her dreams being shattered. Gotta run now to rob a 7-11 and give the loot to my son. Surely the law wouldn’t shatter his dreams of more money and take it away?
Sounds like the law is being used to dispense favors. Why was the extension granted? What were the conditions? Was it used to generate political support for amnesty? Would it have been granted to a similarly situated individual from a lower profile ethnic group?
So she is an illegal alien and went to school on the hard-working (those that are fortunate to still have a job) taxpayer's dollar and she is rewarded for breaking the law. She should at least be forced to work off the cost of her education through some type of community service.
I just want to know why there is no outrage that a judge’s order is being ignored.
She can't work. She is ILLEGAL! Regardless of what her IQ, her scores, or what degree she gets in college - she can't legally work in the U.S.
How is she able to fly on a plane ? Why doesn’t Obama expand this program to everybody ? Nestor Yglesias, said the agency exercised that discretion so it can remain focused on smart, effective immigration enforcement aimed particularly at immigrants who pose a threat to the public.
How about police depts start saying they will exercised that discretion so it can remain focused on smart, effective law enforcement aimed particularly at criminals who pose a threat to the public. This is no loner a nation of laws. How odd it is ice caught a criminal and we spent all this money and ICE decided to allow the criminal freedom to remain here and they yet to say, how did she come to the attention of ice ?
I’m not advocating she take a job away from an American - I’m advocating that she don an orange jumpsuit and pick up trash along the highway, or go to the sewage treatment plant and clean up there.
And to think Rubio is the most likely VP candidate....
Another reason the GOP is dead to me.
If the judge is serious, he should start by having ICE officials in the district incarcerated for contempt.
