Romney leads Alaska presidential preference poll (Wins by 420 votes)
Fairbanks Daily News-Miner ^ | March 7, 2012

FAIRBANKS - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney maintained a strong lead with most of the results counted in the Alaska Republican presidential preference poll held today.

With 4,225 votes, the former Massachusetts Governor took 32.6 percent of the statewide vote. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum took 29 percent, Texas congressman Ron Paul took about 24 percent and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich took 14 percent.

At 10:30 p.m., 95 percent of the vote had been counted.

Alaska was one of 10 states to participate in the Republican nomination process today and will divvy up 24 of its delegates according to tonight’s vote.

In Fairbanks, where most Fairbanks North Star Borough election districts voted at the Carlson Center, Paul was the preferred candidate. A wide array of voters — including young and older voters — cast their vote for the libertarian-leaning candidate.

Many voters registered at the poll, either switching party affiliation or signing up for the first time.

Looks like Mitt will win a squeaker, leading Santorum by about 120 votes. NO EXCUSE FOR THIS ONE, my grassroots heroes!

In Wyoming, the delegates elected at precinct caucuses last week are meeting at the 23 county caucus/conventions this week. Sketchy reports say MITT won 3 of the 6 that were held last night.

AND IT’S Kansas caucuses this Saturday, 3/10.

How come the bad guys manage to squeak out wins in Alaska? Is there something foul going on here or are they just lucky?

Blacks vote for Obama because he's perceived as black; Mormons vote for Mitt because he's Mormon; evangelicals vote for Santorum because he's believed to be Christian...

Are there ANY voters left who vote for a candidate based on the 'issues'???

Last night as I was watching Santorum ahead in OH for hours and hours and then all of a sudden around 10pm mittens starts to close the gap, all I could think of was Rossi in Washington, and Frankenstein in MN when the proper number of votes were "found" just in the nick of time. I no longer trust any politician no matter what flavor they are.

No. This is the base intelligence of America. They don’t want to take time or they are scared of the vital national and international issues facing this nation. Would rather vote for their religious affiliation. They don’t understand that they could be turning this world over to a man completely unprepared for a potential world war starting with Iran and Israel and a devastating looming economic crisis that could cripple America. Santorum has no experience in any of this and we can not afford OJT when faced with crisis. Frankly, Romney shows far more leadership than Santorum and Gingrich is levels above Romney. Let them have their confessor.

Or the exit polls that showed Sharon ahead of Reid but it was not even a squeaker in the count. Reid managed to steal a whole bunch this time. Guess he did not want another stolen squeaker like he had 12 years before.

maybe ideologues are not as interested in tactics and process. The insiders/libs know when a race is razor close and send resources there.

Could be, but you have to figure anybody who has taken the time to run is also taking the time to try and win.

ARE YOU KIDDING!!!???

IF YOU WERE INVOLVED WITH RS OR NG CAMPAIGN YOU WOULD SEE HOW INCOMPETENT THE FOLKS ARE WHO ARE “HIGH UP” in those campaign. I’d call them amateurs, but that would be an insult to amateurs.

They are making the Pat Buchanan campaign look competent.

Don’t throw us all in there.

When I have spoken about the dangers of Paul and Romney, and Gingrich’s strengths, it’s like debating with zombies.
I feel like a space alien on the wrong planet.

Sounds like you have inside knowledge. I know when J.D.Hayworth ran against McCain , Hayworths campaign manager just brushed me off when I tried to help. That race was not even close.
