Manning, Colts parting ways after 14 seasons ( it Happened)

Peyton Manning spent his 14th season with the Indianapolis Colts as a spectator, the future Hall of Fame quarterback missing every game because of a lingering neck injury that required several surgeries.

He will spend his 15th NFL season on another team.

Manning and the Colts are parting ways, according to a report, bringing to an end the four-time MVP's career with the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 1998, then watched him start every game for 13 years.

ESPN, citing sources close to the team, said the announcement will be made at a press conference Wednesday.

The Colts passed on a $28 million bonus owed to Manning and opted not to pick up the remaining four years on a $90 million contract he signed last July when the NFL lockout ended.

Manning will become a free agent and wants to keep playing, according to ESPN, which said the Colts had concerns over the 35-year-old's readiness to play.

So they were not willing to throw away 28 million, and he is dumb not to have taken a lot less. A smart manager would not give him 1% of that. So all the nuts are no nuts, well he did graduate from UT.

SF seems like a good fit for Peyton. Smith isn’t a franchise QB and JH knows this.

I’ll bet you know squat about me or my motivations to open/comment on threads.

I’m not seeing Peyton’s future including a head coaching job anywhere. Not a knock, just don’t see him that way.

It’s in the Harbaugh’s bloodlines to coach, much like it is in Peyton’s bloodline to QB.

Granted I'm kinda groggy from not getting enough sleep last night, but I'm fuzzy on exactly what you meant. If Peyton had contacted Ryan Grigson (Colts general manager) and said "Instead of the $28 million bonus, I'll settle for $300,000", are you saying Grigson would have been smart to decline?

As for "the nuts are no nuts", I can't figure out what that means. When you get a minute, help me out. Thanks.

You are spot on. All I know is that it is kind of odd to click on, read, and comment on that which you profess to give less than a damn about.

You may be right.

But he seems like such a workaholic about the game, kind of like Belichick.

GMs don’t usually have that approach.

LOL, as Foghorn said one half of nothing plus one half of nothing still equals one whole nothing. And the one % is just a way of saying that something is better than nothing. He should have negotiated a lower amount. Instead of the one whole nothing, if he really like playing there.
