Posted on 03/07/2012 10:33:59 AM PST by VinL
Newt Gingrich is canceling campaign events scheduled for Kansas at the end of the week to shore up support in the Deep South. The former House speaker plans to pour his time and resources into Alabama and Mississippi.
Everything between Spartanburg all the way to Texas, those all need to go for Gingrich, said campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond.
The candidates bus, his rallies and campaign events will be trained on a southern strategy...
Campaign aides also brushed off suggestions by supporters of Rick Santorum that Gingrich drop out...
All of the logic being used by the Santorum campaign is simply reversed and it could be used on Rick Santorum, Hammond said. Well argue, Santorum is splitting Mitt Romneys moderate vote.
The GOP primary will go on for many more months, Hammond said. Well stick in the race.
In a radio interview Wednesday morning, Gingrich himself made clear that he has no plans to get out of the Republican primary, allowing Santorum to face Romney in a head-to-head match up.
If I thought he was a slam dunk to beat Romney and to beat Obama, I would really consider getting out. I dont, Gingrich said on Bill Bennetts Morning in America radio show Wednesday. I think each of the three candidates has strengths and weaknesses and that this is a very healthy vetting process.
Gingrich described himself as a tortoise moving slowly but steadily toward the nomination as he hailed his victory in Georgia on Super Tuesday.
Gingrich was greeted in Montgomery by an enthusiastic crowd in the downtown Renaissance Hotel, where a banner hung reading Promise of a Newt Day. ...
Gingrich looks at the Republican strongholds of Alabama and Mississippi as Gingrich country places where you can sniff out what a conservative is, Hammond said.

Two of my dreary neighbors like Romney, but guess what?
They’re not motivated to vote! Too much trouble, because they work in Jackson and like to eat out on the way home.
You’ll also notice below on this dedicated election website that they too have Newt ahead of Santo for the hard delegates.
Need to Nominate 1,144
W Romney 302
N Gingrich 96
R Santorum 79
R Paul 16
J Huntsman 2
Well, if Newt wins Mississippi and Alabama then Romney will have to concede. lol.
No, he won’t concede. But, if your assumptions are true, then Newt l;ikely takes La- And then, it’s 155 Texas delegates- where Newt has Rick Perry’s organization, and maybe, Sarah Palin’s support.
Potentially, a whole new ballgame.
LLS’s “here” is my “here” = Mississippi.
I wish I could have run Newt’s campaign from the beginning. He is a great supporter of small government. I would NEVER have allowed him to skip those mid-west states. I would have had him go up there and work to grab those states from Santorum. I would not have allowed him to skip any states from there on either. I would not have had him spend so much time in Georgia. I think Newt cut himself short thinking he didn’t have Georgia in the bag. He did. He should have gone to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and I would have had him run up to Alaska to speak with them too. I know it is easy to be a Monday quarterback, but I am so upset with Newt’s team. He had complete control of this primary and could have gotten the nomination. My mother in Pennsylvania is all Newt....she is pissed that I support him but want Santorum more.....man what a disappointing son. lol. The good news now is that Newt will collect many many delegates and at the convention with his persuasive ability to sell himself, he could get the nomination. I think Palin going to Mississippi, Alabama AND Kansas for Newt would be helpful. Again, Newt giving up on another state (Kansas) is not a good decision IMHO.
Yes, and she is for Newt Gingrich, which is very difficult for some to accept.
I like you tagline.
I can’t stop my eyes from watering every time I think about Andrew.
It will be interesting to see.
Asked about Rick Santorum’s contention that Gingrich is dividing the conservative, anti-Romney vote, Palin dismissed the complaint. “Oh, boo-hoo,” she said.
Best political quote of the race. LOL
You went an made this big guys eyes wet.
With that, our country could survive and become prosperous again.
Maybe an extra day or two in Okie land would have flipped the state to him.
Here is some 'good news' for Rick that his Oklahoma delegate count went up to 14. ;-)
But Myth's delegates are now at 13 for Oklahoma
And so did Newt's reach 13 too.
Hey Naps, thanks for the post. I’m in Ct, and just got back from my jog— The weather is great- for this time of year. _;)
As for the Tenn defection, my only point is, that Newt hasn’t tried to subterfuge Rick by tactics- Newt hasn’t gone to Rick’s insiders and lobbied them to turn on Rick. On thge other hand, your guy has clearly done so.
Now, I agree wt you, if you’re talking tactical politics- that might have been a winner for Rick.
But, for myself, I don’t vote on subterfuge and Machiavellian tactics, I vote on ideas and beliefs.
Rick, should challenge Newt to a one-on-one debate based on his ideas and visions for the conservative movement— and if Rick’s visions and ideas are better- than I will concede that Rick is the right candidate.
But Naps, honestly, I don’t think Rick has the guts to face Newt one-on-one. Accordingly, on principle, I’ll stay with the candidate who is the champion of conservatism.
Always good to hear from you, Napster.
I will detest Romney till my last breath and never vote for him for many reasons, but also for ruining this primary for all of and particularly for Newt Gingrich when he was running away with this election on a purely positive campaign, touting real solutions and new, bold ideas.
I think Newt Gingrich is short of money and likely can’t compete in Kansas, -— never mind the SuperPAC money which is separate. Big money Romney makes me almost deathly ill and I can’t stand to watch him or read much about him. He’s bought and cheated his way throughout. I don’t believe that any of the other candidates would have stooped anywhere near his level. He’s the one who needs to be forced out.
Sarah Palin has said that she is afraid her endorsements hurt as much as they help, but I hope she campaigns for him with Governor Perry in Texas. By saying she voted for him last night and her previous statements before South Carolina, people know she is for Newt Gingrich. On site campaigning would really help, (I think).
GOOD ON YOUR MOM! God bless her, she is a beautiful, very smart lady!!! You’re a brat of a son! LOL. Just kidding!
That’s our Sarah!
I know. The two of them together.......
I agree with everything and Mom would 100 percent agree with me being a brat. lol. You two would get along great! It makes me ill too when I see Romney buying the primary. It makes me even MORE ill to see that Romney is winning areas that Obama will win. If Romney is the nominee, we will lose by the biggest margin in History. The Ronald Reagan win will look small in comparison. If Romney cannot even win in areas that President Bush won than what is he thinking? So frustrating! Go Newt - beat Romney in Texas, California, Alabama, Mississippi, and the rest. I suppose Romney can win DC. lol. I still think that if Newt and Rick would sit down and make it a Newt-Santorum ticket (which I firmly believe Santorum would accept). It would put us in a strong position to hold the White House for 16 years. Why are they not talking like this? I think Newt would have to bring it up. Santorum would not bring it up because I think Newt intimidates Rick sometimes but they do get along well.
Also, Rick was courting the unionista vote in MI and OH in the UAW and Steelworkers Union. He didn’t have the money to compete w/ Romney so he tried to buy the unions with the 0% manufacturing tax rate. This isn’t all that surprising given his track record against “right to work” in PA and, also, going after FedEx on the behalf of unionized UPS - equivalent to a “Brown Bailout”. These are (D) tactics and something that I really disdain.
Rick said he would support “right to work” as a Pres, but didn’t say a word to this effect up in those states.
Rick, should challenge Newt to a one-on-one debate based on his ideas and visions for the conservative movement and if Ricks visions and ideas are better- than I will concede that Rick is the right candidate.
I agree they should do a Lincoln Douglas Debate. I loved the one with Cain. Apparently he and Huntsman did one too, but I missed that one. I am sure that was a good one too. Again, it won’t be Rick to request it. It would have to be Newt calling Rick and asking him to do it. I think Rick would do it if asked. But asking on TV probably won’t get Rick to do it. I just wonder how much those two talk to each other. Apparently they are friendly but with all the back and forth stuff that I believe the media makes up, I don’t know how much they are talking to each other right now.
I am glad that you are enjoying this great weather. Apparently tomorrow is even going to be better. I hope you have a great rest of the day! I savor the day when we get rid of the crap that is in the White House. Listening to Newt’s speech last night really makes me think that I don’t care who wins, Newt or Santorum. He does have a way of getting me psyched with his ideas.
I was a little upset with his 2.50 price per gallon gas but then someone said he is being conservative and it will go even lower with his policies. But would you rather him say 1.00 a gallon and it goes down to 1.50 or for him say 2.50 a gallon and it goes down to 1.50. I think that was a brilliant explanation for Newt’s thinking and now I love it......lol.
Santorum should debate Gingrich. Rick can get some fresh talking points from Newt. His speech in Ohio last night, pretty much mimicked what Newt says but of course, without the passion. That was only a small portion, the bulk of it was about his family, his roots and some mumbling about freedom and beating Obama.
All we can do is keep praying. I would love to meet your cherished mom!
I really can’t vote for Romney as much as I detest obama. We will be so screwed if he’s the nominee. There’s a lot of times when I just can’t think about it.
“Newt Gingrich is canceling campaign events scheduled for Kansas”
Withdrawing for a State. Now I am starting to have major issues.
