Ivy League schools usually cloak their jealousies in politesse, but President Obama’s decision to give the commencement speech at Barnard, and not Columbia, his alma mater across the street, has unleashed online exchanges as nasty as any hair-pulling, eye-gouging schoolyard brawl.

So much for elevating the civility of public discourse; President Obama's "bigfooting" of NY Times Executive Jill Abramson from Barnard's commencement rostrum has ignited a really nasty exchange between the students of these two institutions. Their crude sexual and scatalogical insults display such a breathtaking disregard for common decency as to set a new nadir for vicious depravity in print. In the game of "left, lefter, leftiest" the propaganda parade at Georgetown Law is dwarfed by the misogynistic musings at Columbia and Barnard. Let the hipocrisy hootenanny commence! Mr. Obama went first to Occidental College in Los Angeles, and then transferred after two years to Columbia College, where he graduated in 1983.

Do you have any evidence at all that statement, Mr. New York Times Reporter? I heard he went to Barnard on a foreign exchange scholarship, which might explain why no one at Columbia remembers him.
