Skip to comments.Pat Robertson: "It's time we stop locking up people for possession of marijuana..."
Posted on 03/07/2012 10:40:18 PM PST by MetaThought
Pat Robertson, America's longest-serving eschatological bigot and spiritual leader, took to the airwaves of the 700 Club last week and denounced the war on weed, as well as liberals, all of whom write laws in a "punitive spirit." Putting aside the fact that Robertson has, on occasion, invited God to smite people people of abominable politics and preferences, this time he is making (some) sense:
We here in America make up 5% of the world's population, but we make up 25% of jailed prisoners...
Every time the liberals pass a bill -- I don't care what it involves -- they stick criminal sanctions on it. They don't feel there is any way people are going to keep a law unless they can put them in jail.

“America’s longest-serving eschatological bigot”
LOL ! that’s a funny phrase there! :)
It’s stupid and doesn’t make sense anymore.
destroy the cartels largest market. Decriminalize possession.
Significantly reduce violent crime, gang crime, cartel crime.
Make the forests once again safe for people who hike off trail... like me.
That caught my eye too.
I’m sorry Pat, there are enough stoned, drugged, drunk people on the roads I drive as it is.
I think we’ll stick with the IT AIN’T LEGAL, tag.
Totally agree. Decriminalize it. And that’s a former Prosecutor talking.
Pat is getting a bit over the hill, and shows it.
As the West becomes more colonized by Arabs, perhaps we should adopt their cannabis culture.
The liberals in CA loves these laws as they are showered with contributions from the prison guards union
He’s gone from a thoughtful, useful individual to a bumbling senile old fool that needs to just stfu.
I agree. Have always thought it stupid. Had a roommate who smoked MaryJane. he and his friends made regular runs down to Laredo for pot and relaxation. The driver had to settle for second hand smoke, and the highway cops were pretty tolerant. So long as no one was stupid enough to be caught with a joint in the car. He said it was fun, but got more of a jolt out of drinking beer.
The idea that we are more criminal because we have a larger prison population makes no sense. Many nations are so broken that they don’t even have a cohesive legal system, also many countries have very few laws, and others you can buy your freedom.
I agree we need to legalize all drugs. Stop this madness of locking up the drug user. It is like the roaring 20’s prohibition. When booze was illegal it was everywhere and controlled by the mob and lots of killing over territory. Legalize the drugs. Control it tax it and the gangsters will go away or most of them! The drug cartels would go away too! Use the tax money to help people kick the habit. DEA would go away. Less crime there too!
I have talked with several drug users (specifically crack, among others) why said if marijuana were readily available they would never touch crack. Worked 10 years has a health educator/counselor.
Bull, the left is pro-drug, the right is anti-drug.
Don’t play that stupid, childish, anti-conservative game of trying to pretend different.
When you convince the Southern Baptist voters to embrace Arabism and Hashish/pot, then we can talk.
This myth of simple possession pot smokers being tossed into jail at a rapid rate is bullshit.
The ones that get prosecuted plead down and the ones that actually do make it behind bars are the ones with dealer amounts.
The judges won’t even keep dangerous criminals behind bars. Why would they put pot smokers there?
Decriminalization is a half-measure and half-measures avail only by half. LEGALIZE IT FER CRYIN” OUT LOUD AND LET”S MOVE!!! 100 years of a freakin’ ‘’drug war’’ is enough!
Prison costs a lot. There are other ways of punishing people.

Drug addicts lie a lot.. whether they are doped up or not..
Thats why they call it DOPE!!!..
Do you honestly believe there are people NOT smoking Marijuana right now because it’s illegal? This prohibition is every bit as much of a failure as the one against alcohol. Maybe worse.
