Pat Robertson: "It's time we stop locking up people for possession of marijuana..."
Reason ^ | March 6, 2012 | Mike Riggs

Posted on 03/07/2012 10:40:18 PM PST by MetaThought

Pat Robertson, America's longest-serving eschatological bigot and spiritual leader, took to the airwaves of the 700 Club last week and denounced the war on weed, as well as liberals, all of whom write laws in a "punitive spirit." Putting aside the fact that Robertson has, on occasion, invited God to smite people people of abominable politics and preferences, this time he is making (some) sense:

We here in America make up 5% of the world's population, but we make up 25% of jailed prisoners...

Every time the liberals pass a bill -- I don't care what it involves -- they stick criminal sanctions on it. They don't feel there is any way people are going to keep a law unless they can put them in jail.

Absolutely agree, and I’m not for the legalization of any other currently illegal drug, just MJ.

Bull, the left is pro-drug, the right is anti-drug.

Says who other than your own worldview?

Totally agree. Decriminalize it. And that’s a former Prosecutor talking.

Agree.

It's only given government more control, and an excuse to make government even larger, all on the tax payers backs.

“Bull, the left is pro-drug, the right is anti-drug.

Don’t play that stupid, childish, anti-conservative game of trying to pretend different.”

I always thought that the left was for the all-powerful nanny state telling individuals what they may and may not do and the right was for individual liberty and individual responsibility?

Believing in a limited federal government except in those cases where you have some kind of personal objection is simply not ideologically consistent.

The temperance movement at the turn of the 20th century at least realized that the federal government was a limited one and didn’t have the power to ban alcohol — without a Constitutional Amendment granting it the authority to do so.

But “social” conservatives such as yourself know better and want the federal government to enforce the prohibitions of their choosing. The progressives also know better and want the federal government to enforce extra-Constitutional measures of their choosing. Ideologically, social conservatives have a great deal in common with the left. What they want the government to interfere in is the only real difference.

Really? You think Bill Maher, and Fluke, and Michael Moore, and Nancy Pelosi, and Jerry Brown are the only thing stopping the Southern Baptists, Evangelicals, and the right wing from passing our pro-Arab/Hashish laws?

You live in the most powerful nation that has ever existed.

It was created by “Social Conservatives” that would be shooting, imprisoning, and lynching, the social weirdos/libertarians of today.

The federal government had to step in when a new kind of freak arose in America, the polygamist, and Mormonism, the United States Army was sent in.

Codeine used to be non prescription, until teenagers started swilling Cough Syrup for the numbing effect.

LOL. Well, you pretty much made my point for me.

By saying: “It was created by “Social Conservatives” that would be shooting, imprisoning, and lynching, the social weirdos/libertarians of today” demonstrates that you have absolutely no understanding of the rule of law, what a limited constitutional republic is or the fact that a tyranny of the majority is still tyranny.

Who are the “social conservatives” you refer to? Did they wear white bed sheets or swastikas? Never mind. You probably need help figuring it out. They were both social conservatives.

You don’t confront nothing, until it becomes something.

Cannabis had never come up in Western civilization (as an intoxicant), it was used for ropes and such, but not for getting stoned by whites, it was rejected as an intoxicant in the ancient times, forbidden by old Western Culture, it was confined to be an Eastern/Arab thing.

The parts of the world that have been cannabis drenched for 1000s of years, are all very much like what one would expect from cannabis cultures, very unlike the alcohol based Western Civilization world.

It reveals that you have no grasp of who created this nation, or why.

Centuries later, you are the crooked lawyer that is trying to bury them with their own words.

When drugs are legalized multinational corporations will dominate production and sales.

And “Occupy Wall Street” will demand that the CEO’s be imprisoned.

Bull, the left is pro-drug, the right is anti-drug. Don’t play that stupid, childish, anti-conservative game of trying to pretend different.

Why don't you lose your stupid, childish, anti-conservative totalitarianism hypocrisy, and let the adults discuss issues you can't fathom with your crayons.

The right - IN AMERICA - is about the Constitution, moron.

PERIOD.
