President Obama is digging in on the Keystone XL pipeline. He is "personally lobbying Democrats to reject an amendment calling for its construction," Politico reports.
The White House lobbying effort, including phone calls from the president to Democrats, signals that the vote could be close when it heads to the floor Thursday. The president is trying to defeat an amendment that would give election-year fodder to his Republican critics who have accused him of blocking a job-creating energy project at a time of high gas prices.
The amendment, proposed by Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.), states that Obama would have no role in such cross-border permitting decisions since, in this case, the pipeline would originate in Canada. The measure would need 60 votes to pass, and Obama has already lost two Democrats who back the proposal - Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Mary Landrieu - and is at risk of losing more moderates and vulnerable Democrats.
The Keystone XL pipeline would create an estimated 20,000 jobs and, likely, drive down the price of gasoline in the long run. It would seem to be a good move at a time of high unemployment and high gas prices.
And, in fact, most Americans like the idea of the Keystone pipeline. According to a November poll, of likely U.S. voters, 60 percent "at least somewhat favor building the pipeline which President Obama has delayed until at least 2013 because of environmental concerns."
For your list.
“If you love me, help me push gas prices north of $5/gal.”
Ping.
And every single democrat senator will dig in with him - including Manchin and Landrieu.

Getting the Democrat Senators “on the record” of opposing the Keystone XL pipeline might be a good thing for their Republican opponents. I’m surprised Reid would allow this vote.
I could swear I just saw a dem on Varney and Company say he was pushing dems to approve it.
Put them on record!!!
Obama’s already on record for blocking this and wanting higher oil and gas prices.
I wonder what Mary Landrieu (LA)’s position is on this. 1. She voted for Obamacare against our wishes 2. She recently voted against the bill which would exclude Catholic hospitals from abortion/contraception (She is Catholic, supposedly) Now, Louisiana Oil is a very big livelihood in Louisiana. She KNOWS the position of most of Louisianians regarding drilling. If she goes along with Obama, I hope her time representing Louisiana is finished at last. I and others have contacted her many times on issues but she merely sends an email full of her BS and votes democrat anyway. To say I can’t stomach her would be putting it mildly. AND, she had the nerve to jump down David Vitter’s throat when he voted against Obama care. She sickens me.
“I could swear I just saw a dem on Varney and Company say he was pushing dems to approve it.”
I’m quite sure you did. A no vote on this amendment is suicide for any politician. A ‘no brainer’ as they say.
.....who'd a thunk it.
“And every single democrat senator will dig in with him - including Manchin and Landrieu.”
Don’t think so. Not this time. Landrieu for dang sure will break from O. If not, she could never show her face in NoLa again.
If Manchin votes against the pipeline, it will certainly rip the mask off of his attempts to sound conservative. I wonder if his voters will care?
I am to the point of wishing this man ill in the most unspeakable of ways.
I don’t know. Everyone in congress seems to have this fear of going against the King.
“I dont know. Everyone in congress seems to have this fear of going against the King.”
Not really. Why do you think he caved on the Bush tax cuts year before last? Because, he did not have support to let them expire. Nelson (Ne) breaks from him all the time.
Translation:
Obama wants to lose the White House.
The Dems want to lose the Senate.
This is like nailing your own foot to the floor when a fire breaks out.
The republicans in the senate need to bring up this amendment up to vote every week now up thru the election. This will be easy to do as gas prices go up every week. Let the jackass dems vote this down every week as gas approaches $5 and unemployment goes up.
> 2. She recently voted against the bill which would exclude
> Catholic hospitals from abortion/contraception (She is
> Catholic, supposedly)
If that is true, she should have been IMMEDIATELY and very PUBLICLY EXCOMMUNICATED, along with every other “Catholic” or “Christian” that supports *ANY* pro-abortion measure.
But American churches, Evangelical as well as Catholic, are too gutless to discharge their Biblical responsibilities.
Go for it, Barry. Make our day.
The only thing I’d like better than seeing Senate Dems
up in November kill this is seeing you veto it.
Interesting story on Obama thugs wanting Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper gone. Spooky dude Soros involved.
Obama working on the Fundamental Transformation of Canada
If the Democrats in the senate do not wake up . . . they’re going to find their asses out of office in November!
Yeah but when Canada is already out of the Obama recession I doubt that will happen.
An interesting side note to the battle over the Keystone pipeline is that China is a major partner in the Canadian oil project, the same Chinese off-shore (outside China) oil company owns one third of Chesapeake Energy, the company that the Sierra Club is partnering with.
So, the Sierra Club made themselves partners with the Chinese that are pushing for the Keystone pipeline.

If you want to know why the Keystone Pipeline has been vetoed, here is the reason.
Venezuela has an enormous deposit of heavy sour crude that is nearly identical to the Alberta tar sands. The US oil refineries are designed especially for this heavy oil because Venezuela is nearby and before Chavez, it was politically stable.
The majority of the worlds oil refineries are designed for Arabian Light, not Venezuelan Heavy.
The Keystone pipeline would have replaced the Venezuelan oil with Canadian oil. Also the Venezuelan oil would be hard to refine and would have to be shipped a long distance if the Canadian oil displaced it and as a result, undesireable.
The veto of the Keystone pipline is to keep Chavez in power.
from http://oilsands.infomine.com/countries/
Located in eastern Venezuela, north of the Orinoco River, the Orinoco Oil Belt is of a similar geographic extent as that of the Canadian oil sands. The deposits are not bitumen per se but extra-heavy oil. (Natural bitumen and extra-heavy oil are closely related types of petroleum, differing from each other only in the degree by which they have been degraded from the original crude oil by bacteria and erosion.)
But American churches, Evangelical as well as Catholic, are too gutless to discharge their Biblical responsibilities.
You said it all. Where is her parish priest? Her Bishop? Pelosi’s parish priest/bishop? I hear that in some parts of the country some are updating the 10 Commandments and of course the age old belief the bible is a book mainly of stories. Such beliefs are a scourge. Gutless priests/bishops should have excommunicated Pelosi and Landrieu long ago along with other Catholic who believe in abortion but you said it - gutless.
not to mention there is nothing Canadians hate more than snooty, elitist foreigners sticking their noses into Canada’s business.
Thanks Army Air Corps
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
To Landrieu’s peril, I hope. She knows her constituents want Oil drilling - it is the life blood of certain parts of Louisiana. She doesn't represent the people of Louisiana and that is a fact! I think she is up for re-election in 2014 and I hope that no amount of money can save her this time.
She will NOT run in 2014...
BTW..you also have a very interestering congressional primiary coming up..incumbents Landy ( a really good guy) can send Boustany home..
Manchin needs to switch his Party affiliation. He votes with republicans more than Democrats.
We need more than a couple of Dems. I am sure the Maine Sisters will vote against this.
She will NOT run in 2014...
From your lips to God’s ears but how do you know?
Slowly, slowly Louisiana is rising up from the ashes of years of democrat destruction.
Don't egg them on!
This is about as clear an example as it gets as to what Obama’s priorities are:
What Obama thinks is best for his re-election VS what is best for the country.
This will also expose, in no uncertain terms, those Dems who also cannot put aside partisan politics and who do not put the country first. A lot of them are between a rock and a hard place here ..... back Obummer (for whatever reason - he’s not giving anybody any of his campaign money this fall) & also piss off constituents dealing with high gas prices or vote for what is best for the country.
Three reasons...she’s not popular, she’d have to raise a ton of $$ and she will face a serious opponent..so even if she manages a win, she’ll be in the minority..nope..she retires..
After all, if America were self-sufficient with it's own oil supply, WE WOULDN'T NEED IRAN and it would be "bombs away" on their silly azzes.
LOL
I live in Montana.
I know that I should really put in a call to both of my ‘rat Senators (Tester and Baucus), but I don’t think that I’m going to bother.
Rationale:
1) Neither of the doofus twins (or any of their staff that I’ve ever contacted) really want to hear anything but the magical sound of their own jaws bangin’ together. They simply don’t represent anything in Montana but their contributors who happen to reside here (mostly part time).
2) It doesn’t matter the topic, the benefits to Montana and/or the country or their own words and promises, all that Baucus and Tester will ever do in the senate is EXACTLY AS THEY ARE TOLD. We might as well have sent a pair of Howdy Doody dolls to Washington.
3) (And most to the point) If Tester, as I suspect, follows orders per 2 above and votes against the Keystone project, I’ll take great personal pleasure in tying this vote around his fat neck like a millstone and flogging him around the fleet for all time to come.
I thought about adding a “PS” to my previous post:
After the vote, TAKE NAMES and KICK BUTT.
I see you and I are already on the same page. :-)
This is pretty big. They are saying that the President can no longer be counted on to make a decision in the country's best interest and the President has to resort to lobbying (i.e. trying to convince) his party to vote against what amounts to an impeachment vote.
