Scott Brown’s Mitt Romney problem

When Republican Scott Brown stunned the political world in 2010 by winning the U.S. Senate seat held for 46 years by Edward M. Kennedy, it was former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney who introduced Brown at the joyous victory party in Boston.

A few weeks later, still basking in the rock-star glow of that unexpected win, Brown returned the favor. He introduced Romney at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference as “one of the Republican Party’s bright lights” and “my very, very dear friend.”

But now, as the two men anticipate tough general-election battles in the fall, their paths are beginning to diverge. Brown...is working hard to define himself as a “Massachusetts moderate,” hoping to build some support among Democrats in the deeply blue state.

Romney, meanwhile, has been working equally hard to escape that label, which his rivals for the GOP presidential nomination have used as a slur against him during the primary campaign.

The likely result is that Brown will be forced into a delicate dance in the coming months to distance himself from a political mentor and his state’s other most prominent Republican politician...

...In the small world of Republican Massachusetts politics, the links between the two campaigns are especially close. Romney’s director of communications, GailGitcho, once served that role for Brown. Brown’s chief spokesman, Colin Reed, used to work for Romney.

RobertMaginn, chairman of the state Republican Party, who is responsible for helping reelect Brown and boosting Romney’s chances if he is the Republican presidential nominee, is a Romney ally and a former board member at Bain Capital, the company Romney founded.

And the two campaigns both employ strategist Eric Fehrnstrom to craft essentially opposite messages for the candidates — helping Romney argue that he is a reliable conservative and Brown present himself as an independent centrist......

Need to mention, Mitt Romney has a Barack Obama problem:

Romney’s Advisers Met With Obama to Help Craft ‘Obamacare’ “Three of Mitt Romney’s advisers went to the White House at least a dozen times in 2009 to consult on the former Massachusetts governor’s health care plan that President Obama used as a model for his initiative -- now a federal law that all the Republican presidential candidates want to repeal.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday he was "not in a position to comment on specific meetings." But in a remark that won't help Romney in his pursuit for the 2012 Republican nomination, Earnest repeated that Obama took cues from the Massachusetts legislation.

"You've certainly heard the president himself say that there were a number of very good ideas included in the health care plan that then-Gov. Romney put in place in Massachusetts that were incorporated into the Affordable Care Act and so it’s clear that these are some ideas that we were interested in incorporating and we did incorporate.

"But in terms of individual meetings and who participated and what the goal of them was, I don’t have that information,” he said.”……

You have to give it Weasel Romney, he knows how to grease politicians’ palms. It seems like all of them owe him something... Scott now, Wrong Paul seems to be taken w him :)... Marco Rubio.... apparently owe him big time... not to mention Ann Coulter loves his hair....and the other “tea party” governor “Nikki” from SC supported him despite criticism..

I guess when you are a “proffessional” candidate for president, you become good at doing favors to cash in later...

The above is critical info, in my opinion, in that it shows that Romney's team is still on board with Romney.

IOW, his LIBERAL advisors are still his advisors.
