Two people are reportedly dead and several are wounded in a shooting at a psychiatric clinic at the University of Pittsburgh, CBS station KDKA reports.
Police were looking for a gunman.

Guess the shooter didn’t check the box on the form that asked if the buyer of the gun had ever had any mental problems.
Isn’t there a law against such things?
They will say it’s the NRAs fault and the easy availability of guns.

Unfortunately, the press has strong input to public perception of reality. See "Year of the shark" for an example. The press advocates for itself by asserting the meme that it is a "watchdog" and "pillar of democracy."
Local news reporting 2 dead at Western Psych Hospital in Oakland,PA. Cops & SWAT going room to room in Hospital. Gunman walked into lobby and began shooting. 6 wounded including one cop. Local schools and University in lockdown.
I don’t peg the practice of psychiatry as being phoney (at least not necessarily phoney) but it seems to be in the thrall of looie leftists who could never see the need for such an office to be able to defend itself from... armed looneys! They had to call a cop and wait for the cop?

Dear God. Prayers to these families and those impacted by this tragedy. Life is stressful more than ever and we need God’s grace for everyone.
My mother works in the building next door to this. She called me and said they’re keeping everyone inside on lockdown until further notice.
My in-laws were at the hospital during this (but not near the flying bullets). Apparenty they are out of ‘lock down’ now so I guess they got the perp.
By excepting the practice of medicine (that’s why it’s psychIATRY not psychOLOGY) you bias the question and I rightly protest. Modern medications have eased the task of dealing with both acute and chronic brain disorders, and need not be taken forever if used for an acute problem any more than a patient needs to take an antibiotic forever. The medications work nicely and are the reason that we no longer have huge, sprawling insane asylums in this society. For longer term counseling, patients see psychologists — that is cheaper.
The meds suppress the problem, not solve it.
Your son has ADD? Give him Ritalin or some other psychotropic drug!

or, as in....where psych students go to participate in lab experiments as part of their psych credit?
Sounds like they are clearing the building. SWAT,FBI and Pittsburgh police out in force. My guess is that they think there was two morons.
I’m one. The right medication for my bipolar symptoms has changed my life a 1000% for the better.
There’s certainly quackery in the field, but when it works the way it’s supposed to, it’s a true godsend.

Don’t have that for you, Jack, just an anecdotal story of my bipolar mom, who at age 65 went off the proverbial rocker, and has had to be committed 4 or 5 times now when she goes off the meds and becomes dangerously psychotic.
Without the meds, she’d be dead and may have taken a few people with her. She self medicated with booze and liked to go for drives.
Most recent reports have 2 dead and 7 injured. Also the gunman was found dead in a hallway.
The cop was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital.
I had a friend named Sy, who went off his rocker as they say. People axed me, “Is Sy cotic?”

Radio says the gunman is among the dead. Whatever demons haunted, he’s finally found peace.
I was a little concerned we’d have one of these this afternoon at the Bexar County courthouse - guy we were deposing is such a nutjob we had to have deputies stationed outside the room and in the courtroom after the judge threatened to hold him in contempt. Fortunately, I carry.
Wrong. A chemical brain imbalance is not ‘solvable’. It is no different than taking Synthroid for a thyroid problem. You are replacing what your body doesn't make.
Not necessarily. It can help someone get through a temporary issue (divorce, grief, etc.). It also depends on what you mean by the "problem". E.g., If it's not being able to hold a job, meds can amend that.
Did it just come on at 65 or were there signs before?

You could also say that antibiotics only “suppress” an infection and do not “solve” it — but they put the body in a position of better advantage to cope. The idea of a medicine as a fix rather than as a bandage to a wounded mind so that it can heal through slower means is being presented and then bashed as a straw man here.
And normally by other means than guns.
Or the woman in a suburb close to me (Naperville IL) who drugged her children silly then suffocated them with pillows in bed, in a mad desire to get back at a husband she wasn’t getting along well with.

There were shell casings found on the second floor as well, reportedly.

According to the story there are many more civilians that have suffered injures.
