A new employee compensation study by Clark County administrators shows average firefighter compensation dipped to $175,000 in 2011 from about $189,000 in fiscal year 2010.
Almost all of the decline stems from a drop in overtime pay to firefighters. During the last two years, overtime compensation for firefighters fell from $17.4 million in 2009 to $10.5 million in 2011. In 2009, overtime made up 24 percent of a firefighters' wages; in 2011, it made up 15 percent.

Now that Clark County has this information, what will be done with it? Surely, The firefighter union should compensate the voters for the fraud that its members committed. Right?
The problem is overtime it seems. Perhaps they could raise the basic pay and take away the overtime. I mean most people who are salaried work way more hours than 40. Plus maybe if they are on watch but sleeping give a portion of the wage, but if they are called to fight a fire than they can get the full amount. There are ways to do things that won’t put them in the poor house but not have tax payers paying 175K either.

Toss in the “work injury” scam huge numbers of fire fighters pull in the last 3 or 4 years of their career and you’re talking real money.
And they still call during dinner asking for donations to their kids’ college funds!
Well that's pretty damn odd.
Most people in the private sector we know, have had their hours slashed, cut, benefits reduced or completely eliminated, lost pensions, lost businesses, lost homes, with millions losing basic things like group Health insurance and on and on.
I spent 25 years as a professional Firefighter. Never in my wildest dreams did I make this kind of money.
Why don’t they just hire enough people so they don’t have to pay overtime.
No, no no...Along with *everyone* in government, outside the military, they need their pay slashed, benefits reduced, and make them pay for their own retirements for the most part, just like millions in the private sector have been subjected to.
Then completely eliminate unionization of government employees.

I suspect that the bilking of the taxpayers she accomplished in NY spread to the rest of the nation.

a boat at the marina actually caught on fire and it was a fire truck from across town that responded...although the waterborne fire brigade was so close next door they could have put the fire out without leaving their dock
the first year of Zero’s presidency, they not only replaced their fireboat with a state of the art jet-powered fire fighting vessel, they threw in five additional smaller boats...i have seen one of these rescue an injured skier, and once they brought a drowned body in...other than that no one has ever seen them on duty in any capacity
once a week they don spotless drycleaned blue uniforms and take the big fireboat out for a joyride...love to know how much firemen who never put out a fire get paid

My town publishes every salary paid by the town every year,including names.
I’m sure that info would be available.
Our little town’s fir chief requested and received a $750,000 federal grant to buy a new engine. This was after we voted down a request to buy a new engine. Now, we’re being asked to vote on March 13th whether to pay the extra $250,000 to make complete payment on the $1,000,000 new engine.
Serious question. How does a fire chief make such a federal request?
I’m trying to word a letter to the town selectman to ask how this was able to happen and what happens if we reject the $250,000 expense.
Like another poster stated, there hasn’t been a fire to contend with in this little town for years. Yet, we have 3 engines already with this one on the way.
That’s nothing, I’ve see 2 rescue trucks, a paramedic vehicle, and 2 fire engines respond to an old guy who fell down. It was like a response to an aircraft crash.
BTW, in my area, about 90 percent of the time, the Fire Department does not roll on fires, but auto collisions, most of which are relatively minor.
How much chrome did they put on this thing to raise the cost to $1,000,000 dollars.
That’s a huge cost for an Engine.
Theu could buy a pumper Engine and a good ladder truck for that kind of money.Even a pumper tanker shouldn’t cost that. Apparatus has become a huge expense , an ambulance now can cost $120,000, but a Million bucks is just too much for a pumper .
