White House Set to Shape Debate Over Health Law
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 03/09/2012 | Robert Pear

The White House has begun an aggressive campaign to use the upcoming Supreme Court arguments on the new health care law to build support for President Barack Obama's signature legislative achievement and shape public opinion on an issue at the center of the battle for the White House and Congress.

On Wednesday, White House officials summoned dozens of leaders of nonprofit organizations that strongly back the health law to help them coordinate plans for a prayer vigil, news conferences and other events outside the court when justices hear arguments for three days beginning March 26.

The advocates and officials mapped out a strategy to call attention to tangible benefits of the law, such as increased insurance coverage for young adults. Sensitive to the idea that they were encouraging demonstrations, White House officials denied that they were trying to gin up support by encouraging rallies outside the Supreme Court, just a stone's throw from Congress on Capitol Hill. They said a main purpose of this week's meeting, in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building adjacent to the White House, was to give the groups a chance to learn of the plans.

Has an administration ever before orchestrated demonstrations by activists in front of the Supreme Court to gin up support for its signature legislation? I don't recall this in my lifetime.

This is corrupt behavior of the highest possible magnitude. The executive branch agitating the masses to fight the judicial branch about near-illegally passed legislation...and legislation this is, on the face of it, unconstitutional.

Every day I fear more for our nation.

Even sympathetic administrations in the past where hot issues were concerned (e.g. civil rights) didn’t reach out to gin up their own protests, but waited for the legal and political processes to speak. Any protests were private and not government sponsored. Obama promised a revolution, well he certainly cannot be blamed for not trying his darnedest to keep that promise.

As long as they are squatters in the States I think Obamacare does.

And if the administration does, it might very well backfire on them. The rumor has it that a few members of the Supreme Court are still rather angry about the completely unprecedented and out-of-line "lecture" Obama gave them at the State of the Union address a couple years ago. If he tries this, even some of the more liberal leaning members may decide it's time to teach him that the Supreme Court is an equal branch of government and will not be lectured or pressured by another branch. And what better way to do that than to destroy his signature achievement, Obamacare.

Coordination IS important. They need to decide who will draw the pentagrams, who will bring the sacrifice, and who will read the Black Mass.

All that and who will provide the prayer rugs and point the direction to Mecca?

I don’t believe the Supremes will be moved (by this ruckus) to consider the turd adequately polished.

plans for a prayer vigil

To whom, or more correctly, to what are they going to pray?

A prayer vigil — that’s what struck me, too.

Would that be as in, “Dear G-D, please help us in our effort to destroy religious freedom and turn the US government into a condom dispensary.”?

I think someone needs to remind these evil people about the Scripture verse: “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

“dozens of leaders of nonprofit organizations”

“Dozens,” doesn’t sound like very many. And could it be these are really not “nonprofit” from this Arbeitsziehungslager?

I agree. Actually, I’ve been thinking about these verses since first reading about this so-called prayer vigil:

“Make no mistake: God is not mocked, for a person will reap only what he sows, because the one who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life from the spirit. Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give up. So then, while we have the opportunity, let us do good to all, but especially to those who belong to the family of the faith.” (Galatians 6: 7-10)

The attacks this administration sows on the Family of Faith WILL bring them some very dire consequences.

Another thought: Just yesterday or the day before...wasn’t a solitary man who was silently protesting in front of the Supreme Court arrested? If so, will this administration-organized protest be treated the same way?

Let's get this straight!

A "prayer vigil"?

What happened to "separation of church and state"?

There is a certain irony here which would be laughable, if the implications for the future of liberty were not so serious.

An Executive Branch which considers the U. S. Constitution to be "flawed" because it prohibits elected representatives in government from imposing their will on citizens is not an Administration which respects the First Amendment's protections for freedom of conscience and free exercise of religion.

Even the Creator endowed individuals with a free will.

Will "prayer warriors" at this "prayer vigil" ask the Creator to grant to this Administration a coercive power He, himself, has not imposed on His creatures?
