Alabama Republicans are up to bat next, and right now its a near three-way tie going into next Tuesdays primary.
The first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Alabama finds Newt Gingrich barely ahead with 30% support to 29% for Rick Santorum and 28% for Mitt Romney. Texas Congressman Ron Paul trails with seven percent (7%) of the vote. One percent (1%) prefers some other candidate, and six percent (6%) remain undecided. Thanks to so and so keeping the viable conservative from 50% Romney will get a share of delegates from each state. Depressing.
There can be only one or Romney will secure the nomination.
3 polls in MS, 3 different winners.
Romney would lose 2-1 if someone wasn’t insisting on staying in the race.
I share your concern. I made the case that we should back Santorum after his wins in Feb., but then I went and voted for Newt in GA. I did so knowing that Newt does not have a feasible pathway to the nomination short of a brokered convention and quite a bit of luck. But at the end of the day I ignored my advice and cast a vote for the candidate I think is the best. I suspect folks in Alabama and Mississippi will do the same.
Neither Santorum nor Gingrich will drop anytime soon. That being the case, Romney does have a good shot at winning both Alabama and Mississippi. If that happens then he will have serious momentum and wrap things up by end of April.
newt got nowhere to go after MS. He needs to stay out of ILL. MO and LA he could compete but nowhere else until MAY.
“Perhaps Romney and Gingrich could reach an agreement, ..”
Romney and Ron Paul reached an areement, and I sure wish Gingrich and Santorum would.
The Romney/Paul Team are beating up Gingrich and Santorum with dirty politicis.
I made an error from typing in a hurry. I meant to say that if Santorum and Gingrich could reach an agreement, with Gingrich contentracting on Alabama and Santorum concentrating on Mississippi. My mistake.
Since Rick Santorum won in Kansas, I hope you lord it over your family next time they declare Romney or anyone else a “done deal”. It is important to get out and vote every time.
