DA: Death penalty out in all but one of four torture slaying suspects
Knoxville News Sentinel ^ | 3/9/12 | Jamie Satterfield

It's official.

Death is no longer a possible fate for three of four defendants in the January 20007 torture slayings of a Knox County couple.

Assistant District Attorney General Leland Price has filed notice of an intention to seek the death penalty as punishment in the deaths of Channon Christian, 21, and boyfriend Christopher Newsom, 23, only against alleged ringleader Lemaricus Davidson.

Price this month notified attorneys for Davidson's brother, Letalvis Cobbins, and Cobbins' friend, George Thomas, that he will push for a fate in their cases no more than life without possibility of parole. Because Cobbins' girlfriend, Vanessa Coleman, was acquitted of a direct role in the deaths, Price hasn't filed a notice of punishment sought in her case.

The move comes after a special judge ordered up new trials for all four defendants in the wake of a prescription pill abuse scandal involving the judge who once presided over the case. The pleadings filed by Price seem to settle the question of whether retrials might serve up a second shot at death as punishment for all four defendants.

Jurors chosen from two different counties rejected death as punishment in the cases of Cobbins and Thomas at their trials, presided over by Knox County Criminal Court Judge Richard Baumgartner in 2009. A jury for fourth defendant Coleman also was chosen from outside Knox County and acquitted Coleman of any direct role in the slayings of Christian and Newsom.

Davidson, on the other hand, inexplicably sought a jury from Knox County, where upset over the killings ran high. He was sentenced to death.

Criminal Court Judge Richard Baumgartner, who presided over all four trials, admitted last year that he, too, was a criminal addicted to prescription painkillers.

Security staff escort Lemaricus Davidson inside Knox County Criminal Court for a motions hearing on Friday. Davidson's attorneys were unsuccessful in their argument to prevent testimony from two witnesses to a robbery Davidson is alleged to have committed a day after the January 2007 killings of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom

The judge should be shot for messing this case to feed a habit.

After what happened to the victims, I would suggest death is the only punishmement good enough for those pieces of human debris.

This makes me sick.
If anyone needs a recap on this sickening murder, here it is.
Warning, pretty brutal what these 2 suffered.

Crime

According to news reports, Christian and Newsom had gone on a date at a local restaurant on Saturday, January 6, 2007, but did not return home. During their night out, the couple was carjacked, bound and blindfolded by three males, and “taken back to Lemaricus Devall ‘Slim’ Davidson’s rented house on Chipman Street.”[6]

Christian’s parents found her abandoned Toyota 4-Runner two blocks away from the Chipman Street house the following Monday with the help of her mobile phone provider. An envelope recovered from the vehicle yielded fingerprint evidence that led police to Lemaricus Davidson and 2316 Chipman Street. When police went to the address on Tuesday, January 9, they found the home unoccupied and Christian’s body in a trash can in the kitchen.

According to the testimony of the Knox County Acting Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic-Polchan at the subsequent trial of Eric Boyd, Newsom was repeatedly sodomized with an object and then blindfolded, gagged, arms and feet bound and his head covered. Barefoot, he was either led or dragged outside the house to a set of nearby railroad tracks. He was shot in the back of the head, the neck, and the back, and his body then set on fire.

Channon’s death came only after hours of sexual torture, medical examiner Mileusnic-Polchan testified. Channon suffered horrific injuries to her vagina, anus and mouth. She was not only raped but savaged with “an object,” possibly a broken chair leg, the doctor testified. She was beaten in the head. Some type of chemical was poured down her throat, and her body, including her bleeding and battered genital area, likely scrubbed with the same solution - all while Channon was alive, the forensic expert said. She was then “hog-tied,” with curtains and strips of bedding, her face covered tightly with a small trash bag and her body stashed inside five large trash bags before being placed inside a large trash can and covered with sheets. Channon died slowly, suffocating, the medical examiner said.[7]

This is all part of Derrick Bell’s Critical Race Theory; a certain amount of violent crime is acceptable for Eric Holder’s people because it gives them the opportunity to get even with non-Eric Holder’s people.

Death should be the lightest sentence they get.

I would feed them to pigs. Piece by piece. In front of each other.

I might need some headphones - and a cleaver.

People who get themselves involved in torture murders are just bad news.

They will almost certainly kill someone else in prison ~ a white collar criminal, a doper, a guard, a visitor ~ someone. You cannot trust them. If the other prisoners have any sense of self-interest and safety you'll see them killing these people off anyway.

Just like to add that the people who will be killed in prison are going to be INNOCENT. The jurors have condemned them to death nonetheless.

When you let someone like this get away without execution you, yourself, are participating in a killing of someone you don't even know, but someone who certainly didn't deserve to die.

Our society is no longer capable of handling its criminals either formally or informally. These clowns are beyond evil.

I’ve always had a problem with mixing violent perps with nonviolent convicts. Keeping non-violent cons away from violent ones would probably save the system millions of dollars, because you don’t need the same guard-prisoner ration and you can get by with without the same amount of surveillance, not to mention they would likely stay non-violent once they got out.

Savage criminals like these require barbaric punishments that fit the crime.

A pack of rabid animals.

These are not human beings.

Why is there even a question of whether or not they get the death penalty.

The strangest thing if the one does get the death penalty he has to receive it in civil way so that he doesn’t suffer.

I say to all women who may get raped orally, bite the damned thing off. The animal will probably kill you anyway at least take a piece of him with you.

They need to be destroyed. I always think of the following quote whenever I read of judicial and social ineptitude: “There comes a time in the history of every people when the become so pathologically soft and tender that they actually side with those elements of their society that harms them; i.e. criminals.”-A great historian 1888

“They need to be destroyed.” You bet and I was just talking about what you stated with somebody at the office. Drawing and quartering or being fed to hungry grizzly bears is the prescription for these vermin.

Let’s hope BEFORE they die, they are repeatedly raped, sodomized, tied up & beaten, suffocated, and have hot liquids poured on their privates.

“They need to be destroyed.”

Eggactly!

Someone needs to sit down with the judge and DA and tell them, "When the criminal justice system seems imperfect, don't be suprised when the private citizens take it upon themselves to enact imperfect justice".
