(CNN) – Newt Gingrich is edging out his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination in Mississippi, according to a new poll.

The American Research Group survey of likely Republican primary voters released Friday showed Gingrich with 35% support, followed by Mitt Romney with 31%, Rick Santorum with 20% and Ron Paul with 7%.

Gingrich's margin over Romney increased slightly among those who said they will definitely vote in the March 13 primary, 37% to 30%. Santorum garnered 17% support and Paul received 5% among the same group.

The poll was conducted after Super Tuesday, when each of the GOP White House contenders picked up delegates. Romney won the popular vote in six states, while Santorum captured three and Gingrich nabbed one, his native Georgia.

Despite calls for him to bow out of the race, Gingrich has said he will remain in the contest until the convention and has also stressed the importance of wins in Mississippi and Alabama, which both vote on Tuesday.

Makes me wonder how the tally would be like in Mississippi had it merely been :

Gingrich, Romney, Paul

or

Santorum, Romney , Paul

One thing is certain — ROMNEY ISN’T SELLING WELL IN THE SOUTH.

Just more evidence that Gingrich should withdraw and hand it over to Rick.

Work for Gingrich!

He needs to withstand the news of Santorum winning in Kansas, Saturday.

One candidate wants to solve our problems and rescue American Sovereignty.

Another candidate seems entitled.

A third seems to want to enact Vatican dicta in America.

You know, I thought Conservatives had a high opinion of Christian values.

Then one stands up and runs for the presidency, and folks all of a sudden take offense because he espouses their beliefs in public.

What’s wrong with espousing the belief that abortion is wrong, and that less promiscuity before marriage is a good thing?

This post in objection to Santorum’s values, is that what you wish to rest your hat on.

Is this an admission that Balut doesn’t back these values? What the heck?

Hopefully that momentum sweeps right into Texas.

It will. Newt is the best face to face campaigner of the bunch by far. He could have a couple of weeks or more to work Texas in May.

rollwage and I were at Newt’s rally in Southaven, Ms. last night at the Landers Civic Center, good crowd despite the inclement weather, compleatly filled the room. A very “Cheerful and enthusiastic crowd. Callista was introduced by State Rep. Wanda Jennings (R) and Callista introduced Newt. Newt delivered an excellant speech and again cut right to the problems and offered well thought out workable, common sense solutions and saved his attacks for obama and his corrupt administration. I believe Newt will carry Mississippi.

Newt will win the South convincingly but WE NEED TO GET ROMNEY% DOWN TO 20% AS HE WILL WRAP UP MANY WINNER-TAKE-ALL LIBERAL EASTERN STATES after April 1st unless Newtmomentum build up from now to April 1st ( very possible.)

And we cannot bad-mouth on Santorum as he is on our side, very conservative republican and very decent Christian. We need Santorum to win as many votes as possible. Combining force we can defeat Romney and go on to defeat Obama.

I always believe in brokered convention with Newt delivering thundering Lincoln-styled speeches! The elites are getting nervous, just listen to them and MSM crying for Newt to quit! They are dreaming, we are having fun!

Newt is genius, the elites play right into his hand.
