SALEM, Ore. – Angry at a halftime show depicting a bare-chested Native American boy with a target painted on his skin, Che Butler set out to force the Molalla Indians and 14 other Oregon high schools to stop using mascots and nicknames that depict American Indians.
Oregon's Board of Education on Thursday took up Butler's plea for the second time, rejoining a longstanding national debate about racial tolerance and school traditions five years after issuing a nonbinding recommendation that schools stop using Native American regalia.

I agree. Use mascots and nicknames that portray white people. I’d love to see a basketball game between the “Honkeys” and the “Crackers” with 10 black men on the court.

It is not like they fought so hard to keep their land that some tribes earned respect and struck fear into the heart of our nation. If a mascot or team name is to illustrate the fierceness of your team, maybe these leftists are correct it is better to just feel sorry for the Indians rather say you respect them by naming your team after them. How insulting to them to say that you wish to be as brave and tough as they were. Maybe we should just name our teams after white warriors like the Vikings or the Celtics.
I was born in 1948 and raised in your state. It was a wonderful place to live and grow up. I still love it there, as long as I am traveling, stay only short periods of time and stay away from all the damn libs.
Oregon used to be such a great state and it saddens me every time I see it step deeper into the hole.

My home state has become way too blue. When I retire, I plan to move back and add a little red to the mix. I see that my high school mascot is still the Warrior, so the lefties haven’t managed to taint that yet.
When a school or a team uses a Redskin, a Bear, a Steeler, a Bengal, a Seahawk, a 49'er, a Raider, a Pirate, a Cub etc, it does so out of R-E-S-P-E-C-T, not derision or disrespect.
I cannot understand why busy bodies insert their twisted view of the world into this up-side-down reverse logic.
