Rick Santorum suggested that the Republican presidential field is shrinking to just two candidates.
Santorum's comments come as he and his supporters increasingly suggest that the former Pennsylvania senator would benefit from Newt Gingrich dropping out.
"So we feel pretty good that it's now narrowing to a two-person race," Santorum said in an interview with Bloomberg TV set to air Friday. "We've been competitive."

He’s right, a MIssissippi win in Gingrich’s own backyard, would end this fiasco. The three-man race has given us Romney wins in AZ, WA, MI, and OH.
Just like a Tennessee win did?
One wonders what Romney’s plan is for when the conservatives unite behind either Santorum or Gingrich? There has to be a Phase 2 with two varients depending on who remains.
His plan will be to change format from "$$$ and cheat" to "cheat and $$$".
So Newt should just drop out because it would make life easier for Santorum? Great lesson to teach there.
BTW, Newt is ahead in delegates too, but let's not let that fact get in the way of Santorum’s reasoning.
Linky no worky either.
Santorum should drop out. He will be an electoral disaster.
Gingrich can beat Obama.
I am from Al. Newt is surging in the latest polls today , in both states. He is campaigning all over both states. Romney’s superpac is smearing Santorum and Newt on the air.
Not seeing Romney or Santorum much as far as campaigning. Newt is campaigning in the Montgomery market more than anywhere else.
I see tonight
I wish I may,
I wish I might,
Have this wish
I wish tonight.
I hope the folks in Mississippi and Alabama are smarter than the voters in Tennessee were. We had a lot of early voting that began during Santorum’s surge.
There were a few calls on local talk radio where some of those voters wished they had voted for Newt once his message got out more on gasoline prices.
Thanks for your post and I hope to hear more from you as you keep an ear to the ground for us.
Just curious, what lines of attack is Romney using in his ads against Newt now?
He’s right about that, it’s shrinking to Romney/Gingrich, only Santorum doesn’t know it yet.
Gingrich will experience a big surge in the near future.
Someone’s got to capture a percentage that is greater than
Romney’s....which has never been above 40%, as far as I know.
It’s all a matter of which primary voters down the line, start to separate themselves from the currently inexplicably popular
Paul and Santorum, and decide to go with the real contenders,
ROmney and Gingrich. Neither Paul nor Santorum voters seem to be the type to go for Romney, but it could happen if they get riled enough at Gingrich. This should ALREADY have been
a two-man race.Correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m a Santorum guy, but I think you’re right. Gingrich is probably going to rebound a second time now that the southern primaries are here. I also think that neither is particularly disciplined when it comes to staying on message. But I give the edge to Gingrich on the basis of quick-thinking and sheer ability to articulate his ideas.
I ENJOY going to the polls of the primary day and casting my vote for my candidate, for me there is a real joy in doing that. Then too, I don't wind up with buyers remorse.
Had my brother and sis in law voted early it would have been for Rick. Well, they got their heads on straight and voted NEWT GINGRICH, they finally saw the light, that Newt is the only one that can beat Obama. THE ONLY ONE.
Romney’s superpac is using the same ads we’ve seen every where else. The Newt and Nancy sitting on the couch ad and the Santorum talking about earmarks and bridge to nowhere ads. I have not seen any Newt or Santorum ads.
That is wonderful news about your brother and his wife. Kudos to you as I’m sure you had a part in that.
I am the same way about voting on election day. Even though, my state did not go with Newt, I had the honor of voting for him and all of his delegates. :)
No one will ever convince a man with the self-inflated opinion of himself that Rick has to get out of the race. Anyone who describes himself using the word “courage” is very puffed up underneath that sweater vest.
For “sheer ability to articulate his ideas”, NO ONE in the current crop, or any past crop I can think of, can hold the tiniest birthday candle to Gingrich. He’s ready to go on ANYTHING at the drop of a hat. Some are turned off by this
“policy wonk” quality of his, but I’m not—it just means he’s
That’s like being turned off by Tim Tebow being able to talk expertly about football, Tiger Woods being able to talk expertly about golf, or Steve Jobs being able to talk expertly about computers. What kind of ignorant, clueless moron would think being smart enough to talk about issues is a turnoff?
