Gingrich: I'm staying in the race past Alabama, Mississippi contests
The Hill ^ | 3/9/12 | Daniel Strauss

Newt Gingrich says he isn't dropping out if he loses two upcoming primaries in Alabama and Mississippi.

"We’ll clearly do well enough to move on and I think there’s a fair chance we’ll win," Gingrich said in an interview with The Associated Press on Friday.

Gingrich said he planned to make it all the way to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

"But I just want to set this to rest once and for all, we’re going to Tampa," Gingrich added in the interview.

Gingrich's spokesman, R.C. Hammond, had previously said the former House Speaker had to win the upcoming contests in Alabama and Mississippi, taking place on Tuesday, to continue running for president.

Gingrich held the lead in the latest poll of Mississippi. He had 35 percent support to Mitt Romney's 31 percent in an American Research Group poll released Friday.

Gingrich, Romney and Rick Santorum are essentially tied in Alabama. A new Rassmussen poll found the three candidates within 2 points of each other.

You don’t have to fret since Newt is going to take those two states. :-)

You have more confidence than Newt's spokesman. His camp seems to be scaling back their previous predictions of victory.

“Well then it’s clear who’s gonna win the nomination.”

It’s not at all clear, but my money is still on Newt.

The next 72 hours are crucial to Newt’s campaign, please do everything you can for Newt through the weekend and Monday. Making calls is very very important, and today the calls were about 10% more pro-Newt than they were yesterday, and we need to keep building on that.

some of the phoners are exhausted, and even if you just make 10 calls EACH DAY, it would give someone a little break. Today the phone banks were jammed, but the weekend is when everyone tends to have other things to do. PLEASE HELP NEWT!!

From Newt 2012: friday

Field and Phone Leaders, CALLING ALL HANDS ON DECK!!
Our national phone team has successfully called through the original 18,000 volunteer sign-ups. This has resulted in a refined list of volunteer prospects for all 50 states. In 3 weeks our national call team has increased by 300%, or 50 new people per week.

Our increased call capacity will help us now begin to make calls into “Super Tuesday” states or those close by that can assist and or deploy to active states.
... YOU CAN NOW CHOOSE THE STATE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CALL
http://newtsnetwork.com/ (click Make the CAll in upper right hand corner)

NOTE: The list filters itself by time zones. It will not show you California at 10am Eastern Time because that is 7am Pacific Time and too early to call there. Once a state’s call list opens up the state name will be added to the dropdown list for you to call. (And in the reverse, Eastern Time Zones will be removed from the list as the night wears on.)

This new reality will enable us to be highly flexible in how we operate and target prospects for GOTV and or volunteer recruitment.

Please disseminate this information to your call teams and volunteer lists.

Thank you

Perhaps you missed that despite winning only 2 states, Newt's 2nd to Romney in pledged delegates. And Romney has more than all opponents combined.

"Winning" states isn't everything.

Newt should not get out and neither should Santorum.

So far, Newt has more delegates than Santorum. If anybody should drop out and stop splitting the vote, it’s Saint Ricky.

Yep - Rick reminds me of the map that shows almost entirely red for the Repub, yet the Dim wins with the few spattered blue spots.

I'll make a prediction today that if Gingrich loses both Mississippi and Alabama, his supporters will proclaim that it's "Santorum's fault" and that "Slick Rick doesn't have a prayer of winning and needs to drop out and endorse Newt"

(Easy to predict this stuff since that's ALWAYS their battle cry regardless of the outcome. They'd probably still be insisting that Santorum has "no chance" if Rick Santorum won a Reagan-style 49 state landslide)

Isn't it amazing how "only Newt can win" no matter how many times he loses?

>> Newt should not get out and neither should Santorum. <<

Funny how the Santorum bashers were saying the opposite when the national polls showed Newt was ahead.

1 Month Ago: "Santorum MUST drop out to avoid SPLITTING the conservative vote or we'll get ROMNEY!!" It's all SANTORUM'S FAULT that Romney won Florida!! (even though if EVERY Santorum supporter in FL had switched to Newt, he still would have lost Florida)

1 Month Later (when Santorum's polling ahead of Newt nationally) "Newt shouldn't drop out. Let's take it all the to Tampa and hope for a brokered convention!" (even though Romney won Ohio and Michigan by 1% while only handful of Newt voters switching to Santorum would have derailed Romney in those states)

Hmmm.

Out of a couple dozen contests, 2 wins, 2 second place finishes. What does that say?

Under which conditions will Santorum quit? Can you find out?

Less we forget it is likely Newt will gain nearly half of the Florida delegates at the convention as well once they make the ruling on it.

Romney should drop out.

I believe, he will.

Unlike Gingrich or Santorum, Romney will not run all the way, if it looks like he won’t steal a first round majority of delegates.

He’s going to race to a convention draw. Except he’s not going to get that far - because once he realizes he’s not going to win. He’s going to drop out.

That’s my firm belief.

Romney is going to drop out of the race.

[Romney is going to drop out of the race.]

Your guess is as good as any......Although, I have a hunch the Romney cult, will beg borrow and STEAL their way to the nomination. It may be close, but you can’t fight the kind of Corruption that Romney has built up over the last 5 years.

We are seeing it first hand this election.
