Dr. Thomas Sowell tells Neil Cavuto why he supports Newt and how devastating a second Obama term would be.

Sowell...listen to him people!!!
If Newt wins, they will find a way to have no debates and blame it on him.
Sowell states what most of FReepers have known and written over the past several months.
Prof. Sowell writes:
“Does Gingrich have political “baggage”? More than you could carry on a commercial airliner.”
You neglected this also said by Dr. Sowell, Steelfish.
“Nor is this just a matter of having a gift of gab. Gingrich has a far deeper grasp of both the policies and the politics than the other Republican candidates.”
That may be true. Now all he needs is those pesky voters to vote for him. Big issue for Newt. He has only 1.8 million voters who voted for him. Santorum has well over 2 million and Romney unfortunately has over 3 million.
Does Gingrich have political baggage? More than you could carry on a commercial airliner.
However, Newt can handle the heat. He doesn’t wilt when confronted with those things. More often than not, he responds by going on offense. If he can win the nomination, he can beat Obama.
At least it’s not hanging from the tip of his tongue.
He didn’t endorse Santorum though did he?
Sowell knows a leader when he sees one.
I have looked at every sowell video on YouTube that is available.
to say he is a mountain of genius and intellect is probably an insult.
Sowell is a MASTER.
Unlike some, Sowell and I care far more about the very survival of our country, than any baggage Newt might have.
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
Make sure you’re on jaz’s Sowell ping list.
He is indeed a joy to read, hear, watch.
On the off chance that Obama would even agree to a debate, the media would be out in full force before, during, and after the fact pushing the narrative that Obama won.
Simply put, a second O’Bastard term is the end of this country. It may already be too late.
Sowell: Gingrich Only One Who Can Debate Obama
Are Republicans Missing Chance to Lower Nations Debt?

Santorum’s votes would go to Newt once Santorum is out of the picture.
The media counts on people that watch the debate to be as stupid as liberals and BO voters, but they are wrong. Somehow (i agree with previous poster) if Newt wins BO will chicken out and not have debates. There’s not much more they can bring out about Newt. Mitt has done it all.
Way back on February 3, on a thread responding to a Jonah Goldberg statement about Romney's inability to "speak the language" of conservatism, my post was as follows:
Sorry, Jonah, but this is not as simple as "not speaking the language (of conservatism) naturally." When a person is steeped in the ideas of Jefferson, Adams, Madison, and Washington, it just "naturally" slips through in the ideas they convey. Remember Reagan?
Do Republicans seriously want to conserve America's constitutional principles? Or, are they just objecting to Democrats? Do they have a passion for liberty? Is this just about changing the Party in power, or is it about preserving freedom?
If their concern is for convincing enough voters to reject the idea of "a government big enough to give you everyting you want" and turn to advocacy for "a government small enough to allow you freedom to keep most of what you earn," then they'd better get busy seeing that someone is nominated who has been "marinated" (to use a word coined by Ingraham recently on "The Factor") in the Founders' ideas (isn't that what conservatives purport to "conserve"?).
So far, Mitt Romney demonstrates no such immersion. He has been "successful" in benefiting from those ideas, and he recites familiar words and phrases from patriotic speeches and songs, but that is different from understanding and being able to call up and articulate the philosophy which made such success possible.
Ronald Reagan's life and letters reveal that he had "immersed" himself in those ideas for years before he agreed to run for President, and that is why he could set "issues" in light of constitutional "principle." and explain his advocacy or rejection of solutions by that light.
Of the remaining candidates, the man who has devoted much time to studying the founding ideas, researching their origins, and understanding how the ideas of Obama are in direct opposition to those ideas is Gingrich. He is the one whose mind is quick to spot the inconsistencies between Obama's words and his agenda and policies.
The following is excerpted from "Our Ageless Constitution," p. 181:
"It was John Adams who said: "The foundation of every government is some principle or passion in the minds of the people."
"The French historian, Guizot, once asked James Russell Lowell, "How long will the American republic endure?" Lowell replied: "As long as the IDEAS of the men who founded it continue dominant."
The next few months are critical in helping voters to rediscover the ideas that made America a place for individual opportunity and freedom. Otherwise, they may fall again for the appeal of something for nothing--which is a sure path to slavery to government for generations.
I post mostly on other sites and sowell and Walter williams, along w Friedman, Hayek, hazlett, schiff, Paul, bastiat, are my heroes.
I think WE all know that government CAN NOT change this country,
our universities are nothing more than institutions of propaganda until
WE get our kids OUT of this education system, things will be the same!!!
Here’s the problem. I luv Thomas & his ilk but talk doesn’t get results. We lose freedoms every day. We are not going to win this battle back to freedom by staying in our homes & communicating on the internet. The sheeple are still satisfied with their lifestyle - they got the TV,6-pack, video games, etc. We haven’t yet seen the bottom of the cesspool.
But what good is that if the baggage is so heavy it could bring down the airliner with you and all of us on board?
Fox News:
I’m officially endorsing Newt Gingrich for President today
Jan 19, 2012 | Jim Robinson, Free Republic
I’m officially endorsing Newt Gingrich for president today. Was going to wait until after Florida, but see no reason to delay. We need Newt to win in South Carolina and Florida to stop any possible momentum building up for the establishment big government, statist, abortionist RINO!!
RomneyCare = ObamaCare = government tyranny!! Taxpayer funded abortion is as evil as evil can be!!
Newt is a pro-life Reagan Revolution conservative who led the Republican Revolution of the 90s, taking the majority away from the democrats who had held it for 40 years. And as Speaker, cut the taxes, cut the government, cut the spending, cut the deficit, cut regulations, cut unemployment, brought the federal budget under control for four years running. And unlike Romney, actually blocked a socialist healthcare system from becoming law. And created a pro-growth, pro-free market, pro-jobs environment and extended the Reagan economy throughout the 90s!! Newt is the ideal candidate to lead the Tea Party Revolution!!
That's where Newt's plan to have virtual ex-post-facto debates with The Won comes in. Every place Zero goes during the campaign, Newt shows up four hours later and rebuts everything O says. It's even better than debating, you always get to have the last shot!
IMHO most Freepers could successfully debate Obama.
Santorums votes would go to Newt once Santorum is out of the picture.
After Tuesday, Santorum will have won 20 percent of the states. He is not going anywhere. He is going to win his NINTH state tomorrow in Kansas. Tuesday he wins Alabama and Newt might win Mississippi. In 2008, Alabama went with Huckabee which makes me believe they will go with Santorum....same issues and all. Newt will get the McCain win in Mississippi.
I would die a happy man if I could see an Urkel-Gingrich debate.
Doctor Sowell also made this same statement on Rush’s show yesterday.
What I like best about the good Doctor is that he can take a complicated subject, break it down to the raw meat and potatoes and make it crystal clear.
Nor any desire to even try. He's already letting O off the hook on gas prices, which in all honesty is probably somewhat accurate, but it sure doesn't line up with the way Zero handled it when it was his turn. You can't stand there busily consulting your Marquis de Queensbury rulebook while the Marxists are swinging for your kidneys with a lead pipe. That's the one admirable thing about leftists -- they come prepared to fight and they fight to win. Wrong-me would probably end up basically endorsing The One like Lettuce McStain did in 08.
Of course, you misrepresented the numbers. Santorum is barely ahead of Newt, less than 1.5%.
Then again, Sowell is much smarter than many voters apparently. Sowell probably, at 81, will not have to live through the devastation those “pesky voters” will bring us.
You are shameless. Or shameful. Go ahead and pretend you are foolish enough to equate big states and small states as equal. Go ahead and pretend to be foolish enough to equate blue states we'll never win in November with other states. Go ahead and pretend to be foolish enough to equate caucuses with primaries.
Or then again.......
No quarrel with that. That was a personal endorsement which we all shared and when Gingrich was a viable candidate at the time. As his star faded, however, we were asked to join “Le Resistance” to stop Romney. That was the end game. Gingrich was considered the most viable candidate at the time to stop Romney.
But this is not the case today. Indeed, as Carl Cameron reported on FoxNews on the night of Super-Tuesday, the “Romney camp is happy to see Gingrich still in the race” and so we now have the perverse condition of Gingrich becoming an enabler of Romney. This is not what you, Jim Robinson, or any FReeper wants. Politics is fluid, the ground game changes, but let’s not lose sight of our objective.
Your obsessive trolling against the freerepublic candidate, suits you just fine.
Too bad you don’t have a posting history back to 2008, I would love to have seen your old posts.
That’s the last refuge of the scoundrel who unable to rebut speaks of “trolling”
Go ahead and pretend to be foolish enough to equate blue states we’ll never win in November with other states.
Some of your post is correct except for this one part. Blue/purple states are extremely important if you want to beat Obama. For example, Santorum winning Iowa, Colorado, Wisconsin are EXTREMELY important and could win us the election.
Calm down everybody. Posters stop attacking other posters. The nominee will not be decided on FR, that is the reality. Please limit yourself to posting good stuff about candidate of your choice.
First of all, equating caucus wins to primaries, let alone a general election, is simply sophistry.
Second, I did not mention purple states. Talking about deep blue.
Minnesota, for example, deep blue and not a chance in hell Santorum wins that one in the general. Statistically insignificant caucus turn out like Colorado. Perfectly useless for purposes of general election deductions.
Yep! I don’t remember how many months ago he laid this out and what show it was but it is spot on. He said Obama’s schedule becomes my schedule. He speaks and I arrive and rebut the whole thing. The process carries on until the election. Beuatiful
Which isn't necessarily very much. The good Professor is pulling your leg, Steelfish.
Airline Carry-On Luggage Regulations
In order to keep the passenger compartment uncluttered and safe, the airlines place rules and size limits on the luggage that each traveler can carry on the plane. The primary rule is the size limit stating that bags carried on board must be small enough to store below your seat or in the overhead compartment. Currently the basic rule is that carry on baggage must be no taller than 22 inches, no wider than 14 inches, and no deeper than 9 inches.
Well then maybe the GOP can get rid of caucus’. I guess saving money is better than being accurate.
Hyperbole.
But...but...Romney is the only one who can beat Obama! The EneMedia told me so! He’s the one the Presstitutes Love! Remember how much they loved McCain? That’s how much they love Romney, now!
You Free Republic Romney-bots can bite me!
No RINOs, never again!
Good post, Smooth.
Steelfish tends to spam any thread regardinging Newt and is not particular about posting the entire truth. Such are some posters, I guess.
Thanks for the headsup, Jaz.
That being the case, I'll waste no more time with him/her.
BTW, Jaz, check out this thread. Our buddy W04Man hit a homerun!
You get an A+ for your sense of humor. We need more of that.
So much of what you think you know just isn't so. You want this baggage to be so much worse than it really is cause you like Santorum. Newt's so called “Baggage” is moot. Rick is a nice guy, but we need a battle scared worrior to send in to the battle.
If Newt is the nominee I’d enthusiastically vote for him. But what Sowell and the rest of us worry is that he is unelectable for reasons of baggage and what the internal polls show. In Ohio 48% of primary Republican voters would be dissatisfied to see Gingrich as the nominee and as we all know Ohio is a bellweather state. Without the independents breaking our way, we cannot beat Obama.
