Cool! Where? I’d be happy to buy some if I can get the retail locally.

Are halogen bulbs a fire risk? I have heard that they get really hot.

They are outside lights or used in factories and warehouses, and require a special mounting. they are hot.

Government, once again, selecting the winners and losers in this economy. All supposedly under “fairness”.

Exactly. I’ve been to his shop. . . he’s always had the best prices, and now he’ll be raking it in as a sponsor. Good for him!

The joke of all this is that in heating season, which most areas have, the incandescents are contributing to warming the house. They may not be as cost effective per btu, but the energy isn’t “wasted” at all.

In a/c season, you typically have longer daylight hours and don’t use the lights as much anyway.

Don't confuse metal halides, that are hot, with halogens, that are hot.

I’ve noticed a deterioration of quality in incandescent bulbs; they can’t take any shock or vibration at all.

I've noticed this especially with 3 way bulbs. After less than about a month or two, they become 2 way, and I find they die completely after less than 6 months.

Then why didn’t GE

You're joking about this, right? GE is a division of the department of energy.

Jeffery Immelt is on the president's board of domestic jobs, while he's busy exporting as many of GE's divisions to China as possible.

Yep. Rush is brilliant. I heard the call and belatedly realized that it was planned. There is no way that Rush would allow that kind of phone call without advertising dollars.

I love this.

I was in the local Wal-Mart the other day, and 100-watt bulbs are gone from the shelves.

I stocked up a very large crate of them while I still could. I really don’t believe we’re going to see them back anytime soon.

The 100-watt bulb saga is exemplary of the ability of the Republicans in Congress to restore America to “what was” in the face of the leftists. That said, how good a job they be doin’?

RE the Newcandescent bulbs
Others like Aerotech also sell legal long life rough service bulbs. However their lumen (brightness) rating
is down from standard bulbs 100W =75w/60W equivalent typically, and if sales increase they will be banned

Sales of certain exempted lamps monitored, specifically:
• rough service
• vibration service
• 2601-3300 lumen general service (150-200W)
• 3-way
• shatter-resistant lamps
If sales double, the lamp type will lose the exemption

I wish I had thought of this. I would love to quit my job and run a light bulb operation.

LOL, as a kid in grade school we used to put mercury in our hands and watch the little ball roll around.

If I break a bulb I’m vacuuming it up like I would a regular bulb.

“Seems like all the incandescent bulbs I buy these days are crap.”

They are, they have made them with smaller filaments that give out more light with the same wattage.

Rough service have always been around but mainly in commercial supply stores for portable lights and light strings on construction jobs.

I have a gun case that uses a 25 watt long tube incandescent and for a couple of years the most I got out of a bulb that stays on constantly was 27 days.

I put a rheostat (dimmer) in the line and slightly reduced the voltage and the bulb that is in it has lasted for 36 years now.
