The Treasury Departments counterterrorism arm is investigating speaking fees paid to a long-time Democratic Party leader who is among the most vocal advocates of an Iranian opposition group designated as a terrorist group by the State Department.
Former Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell told The Washington Times that Treasury investigators last week subpoenaed records related to payments he has accepted in exchange for public speaking engagements.
Mr. Rendell is among a bipartisan group of prominent former officials - including Cabinet-level
Republicans - who have accepted payment in exchange for speeches calling for the removal of the Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK) from the State Departments list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
The MEK, also known as the Peoples Mujahedin of Iran, has long called for the overthrow of the Islamic theocracy in Tehran. The group, which engaged in terror attacks on Iranian government targets in the 1980s, has been on the terrorist list since 1997, when President Bill Clinton put it there in an attempt to improve relations with Iran.

Funny they didn’t mention that there are many prominent people also speaking out on MEK’s behalf who aren’t being paid. They have been running ops FOR the US all through the Iraq war.
I’d probably have a word to say, but I’d get banned.
did they ever settle Hilary’s campaign fraud charges when he was organizing lawyer for her ?
I’ve noticed over the past two years how our language on FR has devolved. Now I say this as someone who has a potty-mouth herself, but we’ve always kept it pretty classy here. It is amazing what obama has done to so many aspects of our lives.
Unfortunately, considering what some are trying to do to this country, pulling out the high-minded language of Shakespeare and calling them, “a triple turned whore”, just won’t cut it, Toots. :)
MEK is the enemy of our enemy. I have no problem with people on either side speaking up for opposition to the mad mullahs of Iran. The terrorist label is somewhat misapplied.

Bump
I was a little bit concerned when I used the term Toots, thinking it might have been a vulgar term, but it’s actually short for Tootsie-roll, so I was actually using a nice alternative to the term, Sweety.
So I’m good, and smoooooth. :)
True - it must be that when compared to the average Dim, even coarse and crude seem clean and decent. No excuse though - that's how society has devolved since I was a kid in the 50s - one small step into the abyss at a time. Don't want censorship, but we should make an effort to set an example. It reminds me of a sign in the local AA house (I'm 23 plus years sober) "Profanity is a weak mind trying to express itself". I know for a fact that FR has a number of really solid intellects, but we also have a goodly number of "weak minds".
When this prick gets close enough to shake your hand, check your rings and watch and wallet and count your fingers.
One of the biggest crooks PA ever had a gubbernor and we've had some real pros {we are in the minor leagues compared to IL}.
My mind isn’t weak.
It’s just full of gummy bears.
Me too - I find it much easier to pontificate about bad-mouthing than actually practicing what I preach - enjoy your posts.
Have a great FR day.
I don’t know a lot about this situation, but it doesn’t seem as though he is selling out the Jews (I think “his own people” are Americans, by the way, and not some international Jewish cabal). I think that he is repulsed by the belligerent and radical Islamic government in Iran and is trying to give some support to its enemies. Unfortunately, the Obama administration has been trying to shore up the Iranian government, which is an enemy of the US, and the US government is using a heavy hand to demonize those who show support for its opponents.
In other words, it seems from the article that Rendell is on the side of right, and the US government once again is supporting the radical Islamic terror-supporting government of Iran.
Yep. 'Fast Eddie' is small potatoes.
We are THE MOST corrupt state in the nation-- And 'dang' proud of it!
And as added Gold Medals we have the most corrupt city -- Chicago, and the utterly corrupt Crook County too!
Heck, we send more politicians to prison in a decade than any other state has since the founding of the USA. [Meanwhile the other 99.5% of the pols just keep on collecting that bag of cash until the Feds come knocking on their door.]
And this includes the IL GOP. They're in it too. It's all part of 'The Combine'(1) who are the real bosses in IL.

Up is down in the Obama administration.
Exactly! The Iranian protestors were the only ones in the Arab world that Obama didn't support . . . presumably because the current Iranian regime is already sufficiently anti-American and anti-Israel!
On what legal basis can the Treasury Dep’t subpoena these records as it’s apparently done?
I don’t know enough about the group or the issue to comment on the wisdom or merits one way or the other of Rendell speaking but it seems the Treasury Dep’t may be running over his First Amendment rights.
