US Soldier 'Kills 16' Afghans In Their Homes
Sky News ^ | 12:14pm GMT, UK, Sunday March 11, 2012 | Sky News Staff

A US soldier has killed 16 Afghan civilians, including nine children, after entering their homes in Kandahar. Sky sources said the Afghan victims also included women and elderly men.

Minister of Border and Tribal Affairs Asadullah Khalid, who is investigating the incident, said the soldier entered three homes, killing 11 people in the first one.

The Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) coalition confirmed the incident but did not release the number of killed or injured.

Sky defence reporter Mark Stone said: "Details are still sketchy and various death tolls have emerged.

"It appears to be an isolated incident and the soldier is believed to have been a staff sergeant."

Isaf Deputy Commander Lt Gen Adrian Bradshaw said: "I wish to convey my profound regrets and dismay at the actions apparently taken by one coalition member in Kandahar province.

"I cannot explain the motivation behind such callous acts, but they were in no way part of authorised ISAF military activity."

According to the Panjwai district governor office, seven people died and up to 17 injured were injured in the rampage.

The injured have been treated for their wounds at Nato medical facilities.

Protests were held over the Koran-burning incident

The US embassy in Kabul attempted to quell expected Afghan unrest by also issuing an apology.

You’ve hit on it exactly.

A friend of mine married a Muslim originally from Pakistan. They live here stateside and he’s been an American citizen for decades. One year his uncle came to visit for a week. During that time he asked that I not come over and his wife wore a hijab. As soon as the uncle left life went back to normal and we discussed Jesus Christ as God, etc.

Islam is experiencing a mass apostasy. You can keep them down on the farm while they live backward lives in jungles, deserts and cliff-side. Once they come into the modern world they struggle to reconcile their religion’s 7th century approach to life. Islam, radical Islam, is dying and will eventually die out completely.

Our goal is to keep radical Islam dying and prevent them from taking us with. You cannot imagine how disturbing it is that Saudi women want to drive or even speak out. They’re barbaric, but it will come to an end.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/saudi-police-break-protest-womens-campus-report-184016433.html

The radicals realized this early in the 20th century. As soon as Lawrence taught them what a nation was again. So they’ve been working to stop the future. If they get the bomb they’ll use it for certain. Death is a plus and taking God’s creation with them the goal. I we can insure they cannot get hold of WMD modernity will win. If not...

I just think, for as long as we’ve been there now, this was bound to happen. A lot of good has gone down, but the longer we stay ...

I want our soldiers HOME. We’re going to need them HERE. I’m sick of the money being wasted on these tribal backwards neanderthals.

Shut the borders, control who comes in, and F the rest of this world. I’m sick of being so “open.”

NO more of them need to come here, either. Sick of it.

I don’t think that modernity is goodness, but it is occurring. Islam is quite akin to conservative Christianity in its everyday values. Religiously minded students indicate that Muslim students have very high moral standards and that is an admirable trait.

I believe radical Islam is losing and will lose. If we can stop them from getting WMD we’ll win no matter what. People like air conditioning, cable and food.

The biggest danger we face is losing our next generation: http://www.pewglobal.org/2011/11/17/the-american-western-european-values-gap/

Take a look toward the bottom on cultural superiority. We’re becoming more like Europe thanks to liberals and government schooling. The breakout just gets worse as you get younger. I’d like to see the crosstabs going back several decades, but if Americans don’t think we’re exceptional then we may lose v. radical Islam.

If you’re going to share “culture” you best start at home. Our kids don’t think America is exceptional. That’s dangerous.

I can't. I can't tell you why we're in the middle east at all.

We wouldn't be if we would drill our own oil.

Nothing can change the middle east. We should withdraw all troops, increase surveillance and intelligence and bomb when and where necessary after due warning to civilians.

That’s ridiculous.

The man is a U.S. soldier and must be tried here, either in a military or civilian court.

I understand how you feel, but we’re threading a needle here. We want to keep the fight on the Jihadi’s territory and not ours. That means some overseas presence. Right now you have the hearts and minds easily in the Jihadi’s camp. Why is that?

I’d say cultural affinity and logistics. If you’ve been raised Muslim in a backwater of a country your worldview is pretty limited. Jews are bad, Americans are spoiled hedonists and the Great Satan helping to keep you stupid and poor. It’s an anti-Muslim world conspiracy lead by us.

Logistics also says that if we leave, and we will eventually leave, the Taliban has the shortest supply lines. It makes sense to negotiate with them as we couldn’t totally pacify them in certain areas. Afghanistan has always been governed this way, even under conquerors. It’s trabalistic and you have to negotiate your way through the tribes. That’s good and bad. The USSR did a good job of holding them back upon their withdrawal, but you cannot defend everywhere. Some areas are bound to fall back into Talibani hands.

As regards immigrants we need them. We need to do a better job of Americanizing them. We need English to be the official language of all US government. We need a pro-American civics program, etc. Our immigration policy is junk.

Well that’s the rub. Is he guilty or not guilty until a trial, then whose trial? Was this some sort of PTSD? Was his gay lover killed after the qur’an burnings? What are the mitigating factors if any and who’s jurisdiction does he fall under.

I’m not confusing anything. Tribalism has nothing to do with it. Muslims have no tribes here in the US, and they’re violent here. Islam is an insane death-cult and our biggest mistake was to try to believe it could be “moderated.”

We should have devoted ourselves to destroying it if we really wanted to help these people (and the whole world, in fact).

A lot of conflicting information at this point.

Afghans say it was multiple perps, U.S. says it was only one.

Afghans saw the perp(s) were drunk, but something so methodical could only be done by sober perps.

Bodies "burned" with "chemicals". 16 bodies? How can one person lug gallons of chemicals while covertly attacking a home protected by dogs.

I disagree that the policies of Petreaus are the problem. His COIN methods worked well in Iraq. Since Obama came into office, however, the “Rules of Engagement” have drastically changed and made the situation much more difficult for our military.

I lay the reason for the current situation in Afghanistan more at the feet of the president and his cabinet than the generals pursuing the war in Afghanistan.

34,300,000 people living in an area the size of Texas and less hospitable. Most of it is already a parking lot. A miserable pile of dirt and high rock. You fly over it and almost all you see is dirt and rock. That these people, and so many of them, can survive there is astounding. The pictures I have defy the imagination to say how they grow enough to survive. I think they can live on air alone. Without eliminating them systematically we will never defeat them and with each elimination we would create a new martyr and new foes who would make it their sole purpose in life and death to avenge the death of the martyr.

Short of genocide and annihilation, containment is the only option I can see if we do anything more than just leave them alone.

I suspect the Afghan government has found a sacrificial lamb to offer up to the bloodthirsty masses.

I pray to God that most Americans would not “like” to kill anyone, but especially not children!

But, then again, we do kill millions in the womb, don’t we?

There is no excuse for what this person did. And if he did indeed murder sleeping old people, women and children in their beds...he should get the firing squad. Quick and simple. What he did was abhorrent and he has endangered the lives of Americans all over the world....which I believe was his purpose.

How did that approach work out for us in Nam?

According to Ngyuen Giap in his book "How We Won The War" it completely demoralzed the communists and they would have capitulated had it not been for traitorous Americans like Jane Fonda protesting the war.

I can understand your frustration and concern, but mass murder is unAmerican. We believe in law and as Christians in a higher law than even that.

Were the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki mass murder? Tens of thousands of innocent men, women and children and puppies were incinerated...mass murder right?
