If all of Afghanistan can be tipped on its head by burning a Koran or a random shooting, then it simply shows there was absolutely no hope of stability (ie. nation building) in the first place.

Why draw hysteria on this event, with intial reports focusing on one soldier, then sowing confusion with updates involving more soldiers,. . . yet, no hysteria regarding:
Air strikes kill 17 suspected al Qaeda militants
or this: Suicide attack at funeral kills at least 14 in Pakistan
or any of the thousands of muslim-on-muslim murders in that region?

It made him seem normal. If the Taliban launch another attack from camps from there then we must do what we should have done after 9-11. I am extremely suspicious of this story. Isn’t the base maned by guards at a front gate? Who lets a soldier out at 3am with a rifle just to walk of base? Now it is soldiers? Who burns people with chemicals? These chemicals on base?
Does anyone know what really happened? I heard this morning that it was one soldier, now these “witnesses” say it was more than one soldier and they sounded drunk. Are there any American witnesses to this incident? What’s next-a drunken raid on the town by a whole company?

Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me if one of our guys had been watching all the killings after the mobs were called out because of the Koran burning, and just snapped, because he perceived the futility of his being there.
I don’t know how he can be sorryer than he was over the Koran burning. On the other hand, they might not get as mad about us killing people as they did about the Korans.
