ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia House lawmakers will debate whether to legalize hunting with silenced firearms in Georgia.

The House Game, Fish and Parks Committee is scheduled to debate a Senate bill Tuesday that would allow hunters to shoot with silencers, which suppress the noise coming from a gun when it's fired.

The government suppression of the use of silencer has resulted in damaging the hearing of millions of people. Allowing the use of suppressors for hunting is common sense, and no more dangerous than bow hunting.

So can you silence a 30-06?

This new to me. What would a silencer for a 30/06 look like? Does it affect the accuracy of a long shot?

Nope, but you can supress the heck out of it, so it doesn't slap your face, and ruin your hearing.

When I was married, I didn't mind being hearing impaired.

And yes, I still would have bought the AR-50. My hearing was trashed anyway.

I think I know what you are trying to say here.....but the fact that the citizens of this country, can't figure out hearing loss can happen when shooting guns over and over...doesn't make the "government" at fault.

And to top it off....most/all suppressor's won't silence super-sonic ammunition...only sub-sonic.

No but you can suppress a 30-06.

You can not truly silence a super sonic round because the bullet breaks the sound barrier. You can however greatly suppress the sound of the report (the explosive sound of the powder charge burning).

A silencer, which is properly called a suppressor, would look like a cylindrical lawn mower muffler.

And it would reduce a great deal of the muzzle blast perceived by the shooter there would still be a very loud “crack” caused by the sonic boom of the bullet moving a super sonic speed.

And what problem do people have about getting government out of rifle accesories?

Personally, I'm for freedom to modify sound waves out of rifle barrels.

The only “silencers” I use are called earplugs.

None of them are "silent". Period.

It's a waste of money to try and use a suppressor on a super-sonic round.......

I have a CZ-52 in 7.26 x 25mm...and it's a super-sonic round. Loud as heck!!!

Not to mention the cost for any suppressor is a joke................unless it's homemade. : )

Have you ever fired a suppressed rifle?

And if it's a complete waste? Why does the Fed Gov buy supressors for their .308s?

Because it DOES make it quieter. In fact, quiet enough to keep from causing lasting damage.

The crack from a round going Mach+ is much less damaging than the powder going off.

I've shot a sub-sonic round thru a suppressor...and it's like a "splat" or "spit" depending on how you hear it I guess.....

But they don't quiet down a super-sonic round much at all.....

FWIW-

Just looked it up in the book. All my .22 LR Winchester ammo is super-sonic.

Supersonic is 1100 fps, at sea level, standard atmosphere.
