On March 10, 1995, during a radio debate hosted by WMAQ-AM, Tillman and Smith called for Davis to reject the endorsement of former alderman candidate Wallace “Gator” Bradley, spokesman for convicted Gangster Disciples leader Larry Hoover.

You’re not going to catch me going around saying I hate Gator Bradley….I’m not in the business of disavowing individuals. The good Lord said he hated sin, but not sinners. Davis never rejected Bradley’s endorsement during the campaign and after winning the primary claimed that Bradley’s endorsement played no role in the outcome, though Bradley asserted the contrary.
During the campaign, Tillman highlighted comments Davis made in an August 1970 issue of Ebony: “(T)he white female often gives the black man certain kinds of recognition that the black woman oftentimes does not give him.” The Davis campaign countered that Davis was speaking as a psychologist in his role as a training director at a health center.

Congressman Davis is walking out of the offices of the Communist Party USA, and is receiving an award for a “Lifetime of Inspiring Leadership”, from People’s World, the news arm for the Communist Party USA, Barack Obama is praising Davis, who he knew very well at the time, stating, “You just heard from one of the best congressman in the country, and the reason he’s one of the best congressman in the country is that he shares our values.”

Danny Davis was also on good terms with the Communist Party USA. In Chicago, the Communist Party has for many years held an annual a fund raising banquet for its paper, the Peoples Weekly World (formerly the Peoples Daily World).
According to the Peoples Daily World of July 28 1990, Chicago alderman Danny K Davis attended the 1990 banquet on July 15th.
Davis applauded those at the banquet, who, he said, are always in the midst of struggle. PDW readers, he said, are “steadfast in the fight for justice”.
The affair netted $2,500 for the PDW fund.
According to the Peoples Weekly World October 3 1998, Congressman Danny K. Davis interrupted his campaign work for United States Senate candidate Carol Moseley Braun to present an award at the 1998 Chicago Peoples Weekly World banquet.
This event raised $10,000 towards keeping the Communist Party paper afloat.

Danny Davis is one of the few Democratic Party Congressmen open about his membership of Democratic Socialists of America.
In 1990 Chicago DSA endorsed Danny Davis for the Chicago mayoralty.
According to a December 29 1998 email from DSA membership officer Solveig Wilder;
“Ron Dellums (who recently retired from Congress) is a Vice Chair of DSA, and Danny Davis, John Conyers, and Major Owens are all DSA Members.”
When Danny Davis ran for Congress in 1998, Democratic Socialists of America did not officially endorse any candidates but he was “recommended” as worthy of a vote by Chicago DSA-citing his membership of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and his support for Progressive Challenge.

Founding
The process of forming Committees of Correspondence (CoC) began in late 1991 when approximately one third of the Communist Party USA membership split from the party to form a new organization.
The former communists joined with former Maoists, Trotsyites, socialists and anarchists to launch CoC at Berkeley, California in 1992 and to convene the official founding conference in Chicago in 1994.
In 2000, Committees of Correspondence (CoC or CofC) became Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS).
Obama and the Committees of Correspondence
The Committees of Correspondence (CoC) worked with Obama in Chicago through the New Party, the Alice Palmer campaign and the anti Iraq War movement.
In 2008 Committees of Correspondence actively campaigned for Obama and several supporters were endorsers of the Progressives for Obama website.
CCDS leader Manning Marable, writing in the December 2008 issue of British Trotskyite journal Socialist Review, explained Obama’s relationship to the Chicago left.
What makes Obama different is that he has also been a community organiser. He has read left literature, including my works, and he understands what socialism is. A lot of the people working with him are, indeed, socialists with backgrounds in the Communist Party or as independent Marxists. There are a lot of people like that in Chicago who have worked with him for years...
Manning Marable was almost certainly referring to the numerous former Chicago Communist Party USA members working with Obama who had become members or supporters of Committees of Correspondence.

Committees of Correspondence played a leading role in the orgainization, alongside activists from ACORN, SEIU, Democratic Socialists of America and the Institute for Policy Studies.
In the mid 1990s Carl Davidson was leading activist in the Chicago New Party, where he worked closely with New Party member and candidate Barack Obama[6].
I’m from Chicago, too, and known Obama from the time he came to the New Party to get our endorsement for his first race ever. I’ve been in his home, and as an IL legislator, he’s helped or community technology movement a number of times. He said all the right things to the ACORN and New Party folks, and we endorsed him, but I noticed too, that he seemed to measure every answer to questions put to him several tmes before coming out with it.

New Party News Spring 1996 page 1, celebrated the Davis’ Congressional victory and went on to say;
“New Party members won three other primaries this Spring in Chicago: Barack Obama (State Senate), Michael Chandler (Democratic Party Committee) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary)...”these victories prove that small ‘d’ democracy can work’ said Obama”.

Even for a RAT, I have to ask if Davis has all his faculties? He looked and acted like he was out of it.
If the GOP every wants to take back the country (which I doubt they do), they’d be airing that at every commercial break from now until November. The guy with the Obama jacket is the cherry on top.
