Senator Arlen Specter says Obama ditched him after he voted to pass health law
The Hill ^ | 03/12/12 | Alexander Bolton

Former Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) writes in a new book that President Obama ditched him in the 2010 election after he helped Obama win the biggest legislative victory of his term by passing healthcare reform.

Specter also claims that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) did not uphold his promise to grant him seniority accrued over 28 years of service in the Senate as a Republican.

Specter, who rocked Washington’s political establishment and made headlines around the country when he left the Republican Party to join Democrats in April of 2009, has kept quiet about these slights until now ...

No sympathy for this d-ckhead. Traitors should not expect his former enemies to keep to an agreement. Specter had an exemplary career as a moderate prior to his defection. He was used by the worst Senate Majority Leader the nation has ever experienced. Tough sh-t.

What’s the difference between Benedict Arnold and
Arlen Spector?

You can respect Benedict Arnold’s leg.

The thing about Spector is that the GOP let him in. He was originally a RAT who turned “Republican” as I recall. This is just like the BS of all the “Southern Democrats” switching parties now the Republicans are beginning to run the show. If it were my decision, I’d tell them to keep their RAT registration and go looking for someone who has more character.

This is about as ironic as it gets. Republicans backed the two faced slimeball despite his sleazy dishonest practices. Rick Santorum and others supported him against Pat Toomey when they shouldn't have.

Then Specter stabs them in the back and supports Obamacare. He betrays his loyal Republican supporters and becomes a Democrat. As soon as they get his vote, the Democrat renege on all their promises and Specter loses in the Democrat primary. A slimy, dishonest traitor gets what he deserves. This Judas didn't even get the 30 pieces of silver.

Arlen: “I just want to be held now” obama:”Hey, thanks for that uhh, you know, vote on health care....mmm, better put some ice on that”

Arlen is a useful idiot in the exact original meaning. Honestly, obama saw that and took advantage as any true Machevillian would. Arlen shot his load and no one will trust him ever again, not ever the voters.

Why keep up this off-topic nonsense? Specter defected well AFTER that endorsement.

Santorum backed him for three basic reasons:

1 and 2. Bush and Rove, more respected back then, said that they needed him to keep their numbers up. They also said they needed him to confirm more conservatives SCOTUS candidates. Specter had already done a great job pushing Clarence Thomas through, although for his own reasons, and after he was re-elected he pushed through two more great conservatives, Roberts and Alito, before he turned traitor. At least he kept his word on that, and he was one of the few Senate chairs in recent times who has managed to push through any real conservative judges over Democrat tricks, press demonization, and Republican spinelessness.

3. It was tough for conservatives to get elected in that state, and Specter had helped Santorum earlier by endorsing him when he ran. It probably made the difference.

Well, yes, he did. He also gave Bush and Rove the assurances. It was in the press at the time. Frankly, I thought he might be lying, and I was against the whole thing, but he did keep his word on that.

Well, we know he’s a liar. No argument there. But it was in the news back then, and he didn’t deny it. Maybe he lied then, and is lying now, but changed his mind and actually carried through with confirming Roberts and Alito in the middle.

He has his own crazy motives. He didn’t support Clarence Thomas because he was conservative, but because he was black, and he thought he was making points with black voters. Then, to his horror, he discovered that he had lost a ton of feminist voters in the process, so he immediately changed course—but too late to torpedo Thomas.
