They are replaying the Alabama GOP Forum from earlier tonight on CSPAN at 9:55pm. Compare Santorum and Gingrich speeches here. Thanks for your review!
Santorum was incredible! Great job! He won big time. Newt did pretty good too.
I watched the forum earlier. Someone should tell Santorum he is running for Commander in Chief, not Minister in Chief. We each have our own ministers, and we know who our Savior is. Additionally, I do not appreciate Santorum utilizing key words developed by Mr. Newt. That to me makes him a cheap copy of the one and only original...Mr. Newt. We have suffered through the last 3.5 years with an amateur, we sure as hell do not need another one like Santorum or Romney..
Santorums speech was full of grammatical errors, stumbles, and stutters. Santorum was speaking as though he was very aware of who was coming up behind him, and definitely seemed off his stride. I noticed the other night after Santorum won Kansas (full of stupid people), that he started using Mr. Newt’s words to describe the difference in choice between he and Obama. That is not cool. Next he will be saying he will never bow to a Saudi King.” That to me is very tacky, and quite unprofessional as an attorney. To me, it is like plagiarism, an academic crime, but for a presidential candidate it just shows that he is not ready for prime time. Santorum also lied about Mr. Newt on several occasions. By the way, I too got several of Santorums robo calls before the Kansas caucus. They were filled with lies and innuendos about Mr. Newt, touting his marriage credentials and all those children. Any of those adult children serve in the military? I bet not. At least Ms. Sarahs son did his tour before beginning his life as an adult. By the way, I have a daughter who served in the Navy for four years (the son I always wanted) before getting married (first), settling down to give me a grandson 2 years later.
Now, Mr. Newt opened up with an immediate attack on Obama, after his mouthpiece, Carney, called Mr. Newt a liar. Very cool!! Mr. Newt can think on his feet like no one else and prepare a comeback that knocks your socks off. Mr. Newt even read the quote word for word, so he wouldn’t make a mistake as to what was said by Carney. And as if that were not enough, Mr. Newt challenged him to a debate on energy (not that the coward Obama would take him up on it). Mr. Newt can fill up 15 minutes (yes, he was cut off in the allocation of time), like no other. I could listen for hours. His depth of knowledge just amazes me. His power to capture the room is evident. His debating skills alone would be enough for me, but he is right on almost every issue of national importance.
Romney is a weasel for not showing up, and Ricky-boy should have also passed on this one. He did not do well at all, and sounded desperate to make his points. His language was poor, and he was not truthful in his attacks on Mr. Newt. Without a doubt, Mr. Newt was the defined winner of this forum, and, unless Alabama and Mississippi are as stupid as Kansas was, should take both states with decent margins. I recorded this event and will watch it again later, but thought I would give you my opinion anyone for some Pecan Pie?
Romney may capture the upscale whites, but he will loose his own Conservative base, and will loose the general election just as McLame did.
There is no doubt in my mind...Romney will not be our nominee! Mr. Newt will stay in this race and eventually make the truth about Romney and Santorum known. This Conservative base will eventually learn the truth about this moderate/liberal. I think he should have probably run on the Democratic ticket against Obama, he would have had a better shot. Santorum is just as much of a fake as Romney, if not more so. Santorum is certainly not a fiscal conservative, and he is now resorting to political plagiarism as well as taking credit for accomplishments that were not his. There are multiple reasons why Santorum did not get reelected, and Pennsylvania will prove that to be true when it is their turn. America will not be electing a Minister in Chief, we will be electing an experienced leader, and Commander in Chief, and that will be Mr. Newt.
Hopefully, Alabama and Mississippi will not be as stupid as Kansas was.
The news media had a applause meter and Washington Post national politics reporter Amy Gardner indicated on Twitter:
@ AmyEGardner : Big standing O for Newt in Birmingham -- much rowdier reception than Santorum a few minutes ago.
@ AmyEGardner : Newt just promised to find one trillion barrels of oil during his presidency.
@ AmyEGardner : Newt wins the applause-o-meter at Birmingham prez forum (over Santorum).
Rick Santorum must have made it clear to everyone in Alabama and the rest of the states that he is a lawyer is paid to speak as long as possible (and while people are still conscious...)
INVALID TITLE.
Let’s cut the crap at what you’re really up to. You don’t want to compare speeches as much you want to compare the STYLE of the SPEECH.
Just because Newt is a better public speaker doesn’t mean he’s a better candidate. Santorum had exactly the same number of key points as Gingrich in his speech.
If your judging style, go watch American Idol. I swear to God, there are some of you who probably would have never voted for Lincoln back in the 1860’s because he didn’t “look” or “sound” Presidential until much later, and after a girl told him to grow a beard.
Calvin Coolidge, a capable President after the Teapot Dome Scandal of Harding was also a capable President, but since “Silent Cal” didn’t interact well with the MSM or voters after his son’s death, you people probably would have had an issue voting for him as well.
The election is not American Idol.
hey moron, thanks for calling Santorum supporters Stupid. I guess that will be a problem in the future for Newt since so many of us non-Newt supporters can’t see the obvious brilliance that is Newt. Go FReep yourself.
Do you realize how stupid YOU sound attacking a conservative for grammatical errors, awkward pauses, etc? And who died and made Newt trademark King of every conservative idea out there? So now, only one person can have a reasonable energy policy?
And just what are these “lies” that Santorum has told in the robocalls. Links or proof.
And a very crappy cheap shot at Santorum’s kids. How dare you attack them and question Santorum’s patriotism to defending this country.
It ignorant a-holes like you that make me never want to cast a vote for the genuine phony. Take a look at yourself and your attitude in the mirror, because it is PRECISELY why Gingrich is losing.
Santorum covered Newt`s points well, and in only 150% of the time!
I agree style should not override substance.
But one important use for the assessment of style is when you want to determine who might be the more sincere or genuine.
When this is your goal, substance won’t help at all.
Newt is the leader in which we need at our nation's crossroads.
I see through all that. Rick is much more genuine that Newt. The only difference between the flip-flopping of Romney and Newt is that Newt is a better speaker and better at covering his tracks. I don’t buy any of it.
I mean, now the phony was trying to take credit for Reagan’s 45 & 49 state landslides. Give me a break. He was a backbencher in the early 80’s as Mark Levin pointed out. Now he’s pretending to take credit for all the ideas the Tea Party has been pushing since 2010, even though he opposed the ideals of the Tea Party just prior to running for President?
I swear, if Bill Clinton himself started talking conservative statements, there’d be idiots here willing to foget his entire past and crown him king of conservatism too /sarc.
Thanks for your insight on the two speeches which I didn’t see. What you said is pretty much as expected. I’ve noticed quite a bit of plagiarism by Rick against Newt the past few weeks as well.
I like Rick, he just hasn’t accomplished as much as Newt so tie to Mr Newt.
Talk about a mean person. I bet the veins in your neck were standing out while you were just writing your hate speech here to bobbisox. Get a grip!!
NO. He (and many of you) have referred to Santorum supporters as “STUPID”. I’m not going to tolerate this crap. Neither am I going to tolerate the continued bashing of Santorum for BS reasons.
Newt’s a better speaker. So what? The difference is I (and many Santorum supporters) beleive Santorum a heck of a lot more than we believe Newt.
I don’t think Santorum supporters are stupid. Rick is not stupid either, he is fine person. He will be a good president maybe in 2016 after Newt gets rid of Obama and straightens out Washington. I just don’t think Rick is ready yet.
Well, I am truly sorry if you were offended by the truth and facts (liberals are that way as well). By the way, you can’t spell or use grammatical statements either. It ignorant a-holes I did not lower myself to use any foul language, and was speaking generally. Just in case you forgot, or did not know, Romney’s five (5) sons did not serve in the military either.
Now, I will vote for Santorum or Romney if either happens to win this nomination. Unlike you, I was simply stating my opinion, take it or leave it. No foul name calling is necessary. And yes, Santorum’s Robo calls were just that, dishonest and not worthy of his so-called Christian beliefs, which make him a fake and not deserving of this nomination. You want my vote? Then dont be so lazy as to use a recorded message that cannot even be acknowledged. I listened, and waited to have someone ask for my response. To me, that denotes a coward. It was certainly not a positive call to tell me of his many qualities or accomplishments.
As for Mr. Newt, if you cannot see his obvious brilliance, then you too sir, are stupid. I did not call anyone a moron, just stupid. The definition of stupid is: (1) Slow to learn or understand; obtuse (dull witted, simple minded); (2) Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes; (3) Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake (4) Dazed, stunned, or stupefied; (5) Pointless; worthless: a stupid job; A stupid or foolish person.
And, you sir, fill that bill.
And there are a lot of us idiot Newt supporters out here who remember the truth about what Newt acommplised. So much of what you think you know about Newt just isn’t so.
Amen.
this is the most telling Newt quote:
http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/newt-gingrichs-ex-wife-to-speak-in-abc-news-interview/
It doesnt matter what I do, he answered. People need to hear what I have to say. Theres no one else who can say what I can say. It doesnt matter what I live.
What Newt told Marianne after he gave a speech on family values in Penssylvania. I have no doubt Newt said this because it fits in with all of his other flip-flops, and technically it’s true. He knows how to talk two sides out of an issue better than anyone. If he wasn’t so good at it, he’d be another Mitt Romney flip-flopper.
That was awesome! I 100 percent agree! Go Mr. Newt!
ping to the other Santorum supporters. I guess I’m too stupid to counter this statement.
Most of us can tell who wrote the paper and who just read it.

also, a quote from an obviously bitter ex-wife does not really carry much, or any, weight in the universe of reality. Though it seems to have convinced you fully. Please, as a santorum supporter, just answer my question. What does the following episode in Rick Santorum's life, where he betrayed American veterans with a wormy little amendment say about the character of the man? We already know what you think about Newt's character. Thank you very much for your honest response.
Luckily, I get to wait for June 5 to cast my ballot, and will vote for California's huge 172 delegates which might keep one of these four from sealing the nomination, and will vote for the one least likely to win, and with the help of the Texans, who most likely will hold their primary about the same time, we will be able to force an open convention.
If that occurs, there is a strong possibility that the convention could find a nominee that we can all get behind, whoever she is.
Did the Forum cover how Newt supported CAP AND TRADE (and so did Romney), but Rick Santorum did NOT SUPP0RT CAP AND TRADE?
Did the Forum cover how Santorum wrote the bill on Medicare reform, while in Congress?
Did it cover how not only did NRA A+ rating Rick Santorum vote for our 2nd Amendment rights, but he FOUGHT to keep gun companies in the U.S.A.! Santorum gets things done, because he is a figher!
Just ask the NRA CEO:
He [Rick Santorum] was the most effective advocate of bringing it [legislation to protect gun companies from frivolous lawsuits] to the floor and getting a vote scheduled. He used his influence to get it to the floor. Without that, we would have lost every American gun company.
Wayne LaPierre, CEO National Rifle Association, October 25, 2006

Just curious, as I don’t have cable.
If people are not consistent and mind their “Ps” and “Qs”, I affirm/promise, (without comment), I am going to start bumping and reviving thread after thread after thread on FR from the 2000s which were overwhelmingly anti-Newt Gingrich, that is to say the majority of posters in so many of these FR threads had not the kindest words for the man and his policies, votes and endorsements. We will let the Free Republic of the past speak for itself, in its own words, sans 2012 editorialization. Therein, in those threads and those days, not a few Freepers gave solid justification after justification why they no longer wanted Mr. Speaker involved in GOP doings on, but to kindly stick to teaching and retirement.
Okay, here’s what I posted in another thread regarding my impressions:
I watched both candidates. This was a good forum to actually view the candidates. Alabama did a great job.
Both candidates did well. Santorum started out a little slow but once he began talking about bigger issues/concepts of this election, he hit it out of the park.
Gingrich did very well, also. His presentation was shorter (there was no time limit) and more specific.
What I found interesting was the contrast that this kind of forum highlighted between the two candidates. Gingrich is a quick answer, detailed idea man. Santorum is a big picture, core principle man. Gingrich seems to be more top down solution, where Santorum is more of a bottom up (from the people) solution man.
Gingrich gets you cheering when hes blasting obama or telling you the way something should be done. Santorum speaks about larger concepts/principcles building up to his point (in this talk, it was about freedom). Santorum’s style is more inspirational.....I havent heard a presidential candidate be able to talk/communicate like that in some time.
Here’s a little one-minute vid of a debate awhile back, where Newt schooled Junior, and got a fulsome standing O; just another variation of what happened tonight. since you’ve appointed yourself the Ps&Qs Police, I figured you’d appreciate the abbreviated version, so as to make the best use of your time in order to carry out your new duties fully.
Good Luck.

I still say you’d get more people to read what you write if you didn’t use unreadable fonts. And didn’t sound like you wanted to bash people over the head, or as though you thought you were somehow entitled to an answer to your question.
Anybody who thinks that a single incident defines a person’s character will never truly have a candidate, unless they are really good at ignoring bad things about their choice.
You might as well ask what sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi tells us about Gingrich’s character — it would be a similarly useless.
I caught a little of Santorum on Mark Levin’s show tonight, and was impressed at how much detail he got into over the Obama’s attacks on our economy, not only discussing oil exploration and the problems of Obama standing in the way, but morphing into a discussion of how Pennsylvania is lucky because the government didn’t take all it’s land so they could drill, about how they had been fracking for a long time, and even how the workers had to live in crappy temporary homes because builders wouldn’t invest because Obama was threatening to shut down the oil industry in these areas.
Thus, he tied “developing oil resources” to “get government out of our lives” and “Obama’s threatened regulations and actions are hampering our recovery”.
And all based on an off-hand question Mark Levin asked. It was clear that Santorum has a solid grasp of this issue.
Actually, Newt did that up front and publicly - as well all know very well. Very publicly with many records of it. He has also said it was one of the dumbest things he has ever done, and explained it as his attempt to bring conservative ideas to a realm that is occupied by extremists, envorinmentalism. He did that with Rev al, when he agreed with some of Sharpton's educations reforms. And Newt went into the ghettos with him - not many republicans do that.
What santorum did was sneaky, underhanded, hidden, and only happened to become public because some veterans found about it. He would have done it in the dark, kept it in the dark, had he had his choice. Big difference.
Charles, I take a lot of flack from Santorum supporters for posting my stuff, especially you on this - and I do it for one reason. I don't want any credit, I urge others to credit themselves if it will give it more heft. But I have changed the minds of 5 Santorum supporters with that flyer, because they had a crack of light in their minds, and after reading it went on to do their own research on Santorum. They started to vet him themselves. These were hardcore santorum supporters, I have been working on for months and months. And they were aghast at what they read in my little flyer, which is why I footnoted it to death, so there could be no doubts.
or as though you thought you were somehow entitled to an answer to your question... You asked me a question about Newt, I took no offense, I answered it. There are so many santorum supporters who don't know a thing about the man, and I just ask them as straightforwardly as I can - this incident says something about Santorum, please tell me what you think it means. that's all. They are often so blind, and I try to put some facts in front of them. some people are openminded, and it works, Others are closeminded and can't handle the question. I think it is a valid one. I had one christian professor say it changed his mind, and he never thought anything would change his mind about Santorum, and he is sending it along to fellow readers and now supports Newt.
This one also got a standing ovation, however I dont think it was impressive as the video you have linked to: HERE.
Thanks again for your input!
You are really sharp. I really like how sharp you are. I don’t care too much for your choice in presidential candidates, but you are really sharp! :)
thanks again for YOUR input!
Let’s not forget Santorum’s fine wrestling moves on display here in his pro-Boxer/Clinton/Lieberman ad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCyU5I43_Hc
I believe their different styles would complement each other well on the same ticket. Santorum had more emotional appeal tonight while Newt had the facts, figures and logic.
“If people are not consistent and mind their Ps and Qs, ....”
There’s nothing wrong with having a favorite candidate, but SOME of the Newt supporters get pretty vicious, and they’re not doing Newt any favors either.
“It was clear that Santorum has a solid grasp of this issue.”
Yes, indeed, and thanks for your summary of Rick’s interview with Mark Levin - excellent!
You're either clueless or a liar. Newt was anything but a backbencher. It's been described by Reagan's staff recently how Newt was recognized as a major, rare talent early on and given a high and prominent role in the party far beyond what his status of seniority would afford him. He was intimately involved in drafting the 1984 platform for one thing. And Newt didn't take credit for anything. By your logic, no team member can ever take credit for helping out in a team effort because they didn't do THE WHOLE THING themselves.
Newt did NOT oppose the ideals of the Tea Party! He lent his support to the Tea Party before Glenn Beck, he came up with the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" theme in 2008, and he defended Sarah Palin
http://www.sunshinestatenews.com/print/4463516
Gingrichs ties to the tea party movement are deep and long-lasting.
In March 2009, when tea parties were just beginning to be organized, the Georgian pledged to use his prodigious mailing list at American Solutions to publicize the inaugural Tax Day event.
He posted a link on every website he owned, sent emails to everyone in his database and produced a video while publicly announcing his support of the tea party movement long before radio talkers like Glenn Beck jumped on the bandwagon.
I shall return the favor.
Keep a good look out for those, too, 'kay?
I’m just saying it’s very hard to read the font. Maybe you want me to use Firefox or something. I just want to be able to actually read things people order me to read.
There’s a reason for standard fonts — they are easy to read. I don’t know why people go out of their way to make their words hard to read.
Your interpretation of the situation in this case is sorely lacking. However, I don’t want to be too dismissive, since Rick has on occasion done dissappointing things, like his bit with the weather information. Your picture you try to paint of an evil man sneaking around trying to get away with stuff is a bit hilarious, except that you clearly believe it.
Me? I am going to do my best to keep it above board and happy and jovial, and just return fire with fire all the while with a happy, respectful demeanor. ;-) Peace and out,
Nice try, I didn't order you to read anything. I very respectfully asked you to read something I had written, and let me know what you think it says about Santorum... that's all. People confront me all the time re Newt, I never take offense. I see it as an opportunity to make my best pitch for Newt. I appreciate having someone willing to listen.
Your picture you try to paint of an evil man sneaking around trying to get away with stuff is a bit hilarious, except that you clearly believe it.
I don't think Santorum is evil, I have never said such a thing. I believe he is duplicitous, he lies quite often, he steals stuff from Newt, more and more lately. And he is pious and self-righteous to a huge degree.
Maybe this is where we part ways in understanding the impact of what I wrote: I am from a military family. What Santorum did to those veterans was inexcusable and immoral. And I had some constitutional professor guy tell me it was using the govt to help buttress a chosen religion, which is really a bad thing to do constitutionally.
If you would like, I can send you the text, i did an image because I mentor a lot of people younger than me even, who really need visuals and text breakups to help their reading comp and ADHD...
Do you really think Santorum's supporters aren't vicious. I have had some pretty bad stuff said to me in this forum, and a mailbox with stuff even worse... don't be blind.
Theres nothing wrong with having a favorite candidate, but SOME of the SANTORUM supporters get pretty vicious, and theyre not doing Rick any favors either.
Sorry to cut in but one thing is for sure, the libs must be lurking and just eating all this stuff up (my missives (missiles?), included). stepping back, it is kind of unfortunate. Obongo is who should be the topic of our 24/7 wrath and ire.
