Muslim journalist defends surveillance by NYPD, says some Muslims 'use religion as cover'

The New York Police Department has faced criticism for its surveillance of the Muslim community, but one prominent Muslim journalist defended the department in an interview with Fox News.

“We use religion as a cover,” said Asra Nomani, a 46-year-old journalist whose work has been published by the Wall Street Journal and The Daily Beast. Nomani, a native of India, says radical ideology is very real -- and damaging to all Muslims.

"We're saying that you can't go into our mosques, you can't look at our Muslim organizations, you can't even look at Muslims because that's to target us," she told Fox News during an interview in suburban Washington. "But the truth is, we do have a problem in our Muslim community.”

Nomani showed Fox News a Koran from a mosque in West Virginia. She says the Koran’s Saudi publisher added negative language about Jews and Christians. This interpretation of Islam, Nomani says, is part of a larger problem.

And, the left in this country are all too eager to allow them to do so. It's the old "feed the alligator in the hopes it will eat you last" adage.

Pray for this lady. I fear she may not live to see Inauguration Day 2013.

Not to defend the Moslem "criminal class" (which is huge), but the question is the NYPD ~ they've already fouled their nest by engaging in gunrunning in Virginia. A friendly federal judge kept their mayor and their runrunners out of prison, but that only works once.

This particular spy network was of a piece with the gunrunning. The conclusion is inescapable ~ the Mayor of New York has gone rogue and must be stopped.

He's trying to run his city like an independent country ~ and if he were these spies and gunrunners would be in prison, and some of them possibly already disposed of.

Here’s her website: http://www.asranomani.com/

Here’s her biography: http://www.asranomani.com/Biography.aspx

Alert: She appears to be a liberal feminist. She got in trouble with her mosque for demanding to pray alongside men; mosque leaders later pointed out that she was an unwed mother who had written a sex book. Let’s be fair: from what I’ve read, a conservative Christian church would have valid grounds to place her under church discipline and possibly excommunicate her.

To her credit, however, she was a business reporter for the Wall Street Journal. Fellow WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl was staying at her home in Pakistan when he was kidnapped and later beheaded.

Bottom line: she seems to be a brave liberal woman who is an enemy of our enemies.

After 9/11 a Muslim friend had to fly to another city - and was shocked he wasn’t searched. He told me later he was frightened to be on the plane knowing that people who looked like him hadn’t been checked. He reminded me he had three young children... I tried to explain liberal elite PC thinking - he looked at me like I was nuts...

She seems only a nominal Muslim. Her Westernized ideas are probably putting her in great danger from her brethren now. Ironically this may end up pushing her out of Islam altogether.

I think you intended to mean her home in India, because the woman is of Indian origin (I doubt an Indian would have a home in Pakistan) and Daniel Pearl was actually in Mumbai, India before he crossed the border into Pakistan, where he was beheaded by the Muslim terrorists operating there.

You may be correct, James. I did some quick research and what I found was that at the time she was working in Pakistan as a Wall Street Journal reporter; “home” in this case presumably meant a rented house.

Her family appears to be of Muslim ancestry from India, and she grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia.

However, lots of stuff gets put on the internet without adequate fact checking and I'd want to do more checking to be sure either way about whether she was in India or Pakistan at the time of Pearl's abduction.

The key point seems to be that after 15 years working for the Wall Street Journal, she's spent much of her time since 9/11 fighting against anti-female Muslim extremism. Good for her. She does, however, seem to be someone who conservatives can be glad is out there fighting our enemies knowing she probably doesn't like “patriarchal” male conservatives very much either.

I’ve been told the same thing by several middle eastern looking men
