Bob Caldwell, editor of The Oregonian's editorial pages, was in the Tigard apartment of a 23-year-old woman when he went into cardiac arrest Saturday afternoon.
The woman called 9-1-1 at 4:43 p.m. to report that Caldwell, 63, was coughing and then unresponsive after a sex act. Washington County sheriff's officers and medical personnel responded and transported him to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead.
The woman told deputies she met Caldwell about a year ago at Portland Community College. Caldwell, she said, knew she didn't have much money, so he provided her cash for books and other things for school in exchange for sex acts at her apartment.
Caldwell had not given her money Saturday, she told deputies. They decided against pursuing prostitution charges. Deputies notified Caldwell's family of his death Saturday evening.
The Oregonian previously erroneously reported that Caldwell had been found in his parked car on Saturday, based on information from a family friend.

It beats suffering for years in a terminal hospice program or sitting in a wheelchair without knowing the time, date, your name or anybody in your family.
Death comes to us all, the lucky ones die quickly, I've experienced both kinds between parents, in-laws and siblings, and I'll take quick.
-snort-
She must be REALLY good at it.
I want to go quietly in my sleep, just like my grandpa, unlike the screaming passengers in his car.
LOL!
Well, looks like she’ll have to get back on the internet and find another Sugar Daddy.
Okay, so he provided her with money and stuff for sex. So, like that makes her a prostitute doesn’t it? Sex for “stuff” or “money” is the same thing in my book.
Shades of Nelson Rockefeller.
Of course he would. Didn’t you read the article? This is the Cash for Books Program we’ve all heard about.
Should we arrest Donald Trump for prostitution in this case? I'm pretty sure his young, nubile wives did not marry him for his good looks and great hair. Moreso for the cash and other gifts he provides. So you can legally do all the same things that a prostitute and her John do as long as you don't ever verbalize what you're doing. Non-verbal communication is the key. The verbalizing's not the best part anyway.
Oregon ping.....sheesh...
Between Portland and Seattle you really have very little chance of getting accurate reporting on their RAT politician’s. They cover up all kinds of stories. One good thing..is that the internet has exposed some of them and forced the individual out of politics.
So there now is one fewer RAT to bother us...consumed by his own lust. BTW..shouldn’t we make prostitution legal?

Sheesh... How awkward of a funeral will THAT be?
So he had a family but decided prostitutes were a better deal. Seems the man had some real problems that he never confronted. A very sad end!
I worked as a journalist in the Emerald People’s Republic for many years, and this just scratches the surface of the kind of behavior that went on in the media. When I was down there, the best way to get hired on the Oregonian was to be gay. Among the heterosexuals, there was an endless go-round of what we can’t call sluttish behavior, since that implies contraception, but you know what I mean. Many of my experiences with the liberal wizards of smart in the Oregon media created the conservative writing this today. The only thing I miss is my garden.
“And how many men do we all know who think this is the ideal death? The contractor I work with said wow-what a way to go!”
What a grotesque response. Dying after committing adultery, leaving your wife and daughters with that parting shot. God will not think it ideal.
“I’m pretty sure his young, nubile wives did not marry him for his good looks and great hair.”
In your scenario, why did they marry him at all then? They could have just charged him a fee, done the requested item(s), and left.
There is a purpose in marriage. And if all it is is whoredom, then no one would marry.
What a Rockefeller way to go. Plus the girl seems to be working her way through school the old fashioned way, wonder what she does to improve her grades.
