Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal is moving ahead with education reform--but it isn't without controversy.
Later this week, on Wednesday and Thursday, education committees in both houses of the state legislature will be considering the governor's proposed package. The reforms include moving toward a voucher program, eliminating teacher tenure programs, and changes in teachers' pay.
And so, in response to these reforms even being considered, "at least three school districts are canceling classes and telling children to stay home to allow school employees the chance to lobby the legislature," according to Aaron Baer, the governor's deputy communications director.

I think their pay checks should be adjusted to reflect unexcused time off.
And teachers still can’t figure out why they get almost no respect these days.
Compare Bobby Jindal of Louisiana with Brian Sandoval of Nevada.
One is incorruptible, the other is corrupt (or maybe just cowardly).
They get the same kind of respect as city roofers, laborers, or electricians, etc.
The joke is, some teachers consider themselves "professional people", like accountants and lawyers, lol.
If I were in charge down there I would assure them their paychecks would be waiting for them when they returned...
Their last paycheck that is.

No wonder public school kids are idiots. It’s harder than hell to get their idiot, union teachers to come to work.
The Country has went straight to hell since he last was in office.

I can't think of a better reason to fire them all and replace them.
If they aren't yet smart enough to figure out who is the master and who is the servant (as in 'public servant'), they have no business teaching our children.
If I were the governor I would request every county’s District Attorney to indict and prosecute those who participate.
That would be nice but I believe that is one of those big no no's. Supposed to have separation of powers and such. See the Attorneys responsible for Bringing forth a prosecution are usually Elected So you can't have One Elected official Dictating to another whom to prosecute.

I agree with you. Having once been a "laborer" myself, and having a large extended family that includes many laborers (in the generic sense - outdoor, non-office types), I absolutely have more respect for most of them than I do for most lawyers. Or for most teachers.
My point was that the teachers union's own reference to "the teaching profession" is horse manure since so many teachers prefer to behave like thugs. In my own area, for example, teachers are on strike and vandalizing cars. Google "Neshaminy teachers strike vandalism" and check it out if you wish.

As I recall Ronaldus Maximus fired all the air traffic controllers over a stunt like this. There is precedent.
don't compare hard working skilled American workers to teachers....
one group isn't afraid to work a full week,a full year, and the other protests if they have to work an extra hour....
why is there such contempt for the salt of the earth workers....they're far better than most "professionals"....their values....their work ethic...
I dare most people to even try roofing for a hot afternoon.....or to work with high voltage electricity and just hope they know their wires....
teachers aren't respected because like nurses, they are considered a quasi "vocation" not just any old job, yet they treat it like its their own little gold mine....
One assumes now the students' school year will be needlessly extended to make up for this lost instruction time. Who will cover the childcare for parents working while the child is normally in school or will lost wages be covered ?
