SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A bill has been proposed in the California state Assembly in an effort to prevent violence such as last year's near-fatal beating of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium.

The proposal would call for the nation's first sports "ban list" and would block unruly fans from attending professional games anywhere in the state for up to five years.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the ban would apply to those convicted of felonies, such as assault.

So when you try to go in the park, will they check your ID against a banned list?

Yet another unenforceable law.

No need, each stadium simply post signs saying “free beer for felons” and collects them one by one as they claim their beer.

Yet more chipping away at what freedoms we have left. Are these people criminals? Have they been indicted for some crime? Is this court-ordered punishment as part of some sentence? If not, then why should they be banned? Under what law can you prevent them from freely accessing a ball park if not charged with a crime?

What next? Domestic abuse ban? Can’t attend a game because you are opposed to homosexuality and thus a “hate crime”? Man, we are no longer in a free society. We are deluding ourselves if we think we live as free people.

Just so we're clear here - in LiberalWorld, it's ok to check ID to go to a baseball game, but NOT ok to check id to vote? That it's discriminatory towards brown people for checks at the polling place, but it suddenly vanishes as an issue at the soccer field?

Ahh yes, the good old double standard. The only liberal standard since 1960.

Brand them with a “VMF” on their forehead so the ticket takers will know?

Maybe not. DHS has their “VIPR” teams raring to go to football games and other stadium sports.

If they applied this same standard to the players, they would wipe out half of the NBA roster.

You are absolutely right. We live in a police state. It’s still a relatively soft and comfortable police state, but we’re getting nearer and nearer a certain critical mass of nanny-state tyranny where it may be hard to even say that any more.

This is a typical response from the brain-dead ruling class; let’s enact a law that will affect thirty million people to address a problem that probably doesn’t adversely affect 30 people (or at least not in a way that’s not already covered by existing statutes....)

I think we should all take Nancy Reagan's advice: JUST SAY NO! to more government involvement in private lives and businesses.

You must show guvmt id to enter a sports stadium; and next to enter a public park, a public building, a movie theater, a mall.... Exception: no id at the voting booth.

Well I guess I’ll never see an Eagles game again - especially when the Giants are in town.

I thought the beating took place outside the stadium, in the parking lot. So the bill does not good. this is another liberal alternative to allowing people to carry concealed and defend themselves.
