Limbaugh Will Not Forgive Or Negotiate With Companies That Pulled Advertising
business insider ^ | 3/14/12 | Laura Stampler

As advertisers keep joining in on the Rush Limbaugh boycott, one company only lasted a week before it went back to the conservative talk show host with its tail between its legs. But Limbaugh is not ready to forgive and forget.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Sleep Train, which had advertised with Limbaugh for 25 years, asked to relaunch a "voiced endorsement" on Limbaugh's show on Thursday ... and they were turned down.

The funny thing is, Sleep Train was the first advertiser to pull its ads from Limbaugh's show. After receiving a slew of angry messages for advertising on Limbaugh's show after he called a Georgetown law student a "prostitute" for advocating for inclusion of birth control in insurance plans, the mattress company Tweeted:

We don't condone negative comments directed toward any group. In response, we are currently pulling our ads from Rush with Rush Limbaugh.

Don’t step on feet on your way up as as you may have to kiss them on your way down. Rush is wrong on this.

I don’t think rush grasps the unintended consequences of this. It goes far beyond the advertisers that deal with his show. This new age of the perpetually offended, both liberal and conservative is surely going to dissuade advertisers from spending their money on anything or anyone even remotely political.

“As advertisers keep joining in on the Rush Limbaugh boycott,...”

Really, advertisers are continuing to leave?

Seeing Sleep Train and Carbonite get served a severe lesson in economics and human behavior, I’m guessing not too many companies want to be next in line.

Rush handled it artfully. He told his audience that the advertisers didn’t want the audience anymore. Now they don’t have them. You are right that future advertisers will keep this fiasco of bad PR in mind.

Limbaugh I am sure has forgiven them, however that does not in anyway mean he has to reactivate the advertising contracts.

Thank you!! And yes, from what I have been reading advertisers are going to start pulling their ad money form any show that is political, liberal or conservative.

Well...

For the most part that is true.

If a customer has cheated you or tried hard to cheat you through the courts I don’t want them back period. I don’t want to be cheated again or learn new ways on how it is done.

If that’s not the problem and its legal, then just charge enough more to make it worth its while, don’t say no. Let the customer decide if they want to do it or not.

My guess is that Rush is probably most ticked at those companies that pulled advertising and also made nasty PR statements. He may look differently on those advertisers who just kept it about business.

That's what I'd suggest, at any rate.

Nope, Rush is 100% correct on this. Rush is not the one who stepped on their feet on the way up. Rush is already up and I doubt he’s going to ever have to kiss anybody’s feet, other than his wife.

Rush could quit anytime he wanted to.

The thing is they can get local spots in that time slot on most stations. It’s not as effective especially cost wise but it can be done.

Yes, and SNAPPLE is the parent company that owns Dr. Pepper, who recently won a lawsuit against (and killed out) Dublin Dr. Pepper. Being from Dublin, Texas, I will never drink another Snapple product or another Dr. Pepper.

On the way up? Rush is already at the top. It's the advertisers who chose poorly, as they betrayed the best ally they had.

Rush could walk away from broadcasting today, and would live out the rest of his life as a very, very wealthy person. He's already off the top of the ladder.

Rush wants you to know that he has four new advertisers that he is voicing over for commercials this afternoon. I think he knows what he’s doing.

Advertisers will run adds wherever their customers are and the money is. The lesson for any company is don’t play in politics unless your business is politics. And if you are determined to then prepared for the consequences because politics will take precedence over what’s best for the company and its bottom line.

This could backfire for Rush if the story is true.

You NEVER burn your bridges in the business world if you can help it.

Bad business decision from Rush if it is true. Future advertisers will keep this mind.

Nice try, newbie.....

You do realize that he has a $400,000,000 contract? He is not on his way to the top, he is the top. If you were an actual listener of his, you would understand this by now.

SleepTrain Blew up the bridge. Rush is choosing not to rebuild. Good for him.

Sleep Train (and Carbonite) “acted stupidly”.
