Global warming/obesity crises unite! New theory: CO2 making us fat By Caroline May - The Daily Caller 1:06 PM 03/14/2012 ADVERTISEMENT
A Danish researcher claims he has discovered yet another reason to combat the rise of CO2 in the atmosphere: it is making us fat.
According to the researcher, orexins, neuropeptide hormones in the brain that regulate energy, are negatively affected by CO2 making us more tired and hungry, Science Nordic reports.
Lars-Georg Hersoug of the Research Centre for Prevention and Health at Glostrup University Hospital tracked obesity over a 22-year span. He found that both thin and obese people gained proportionally similar weight over that period.
The normal theory is that fat people get fatter because they dont move as much as they should, Hersoug told Science Nordic. But the study showed that thin people also get fatter, and this happened over the whole of the 22-year period of the study.
According to Hersoug, there is evidence and other studies to back up his claim. For example, in America obesity rose most quickly on the east coast where CO2 concentrations are relatively high. Further, a 2010 study of 20,000 animals in different labs with controlled diets all put on weight.
The probability that all animals of eight different species put on weight from random causes is one in 10,000,000, Hersoug said. This indicates that the animals were affected by environmental factors and you can speculate on what these environmental factors are.
He further pointed to a 2007 study which found that bloods acidity the more CO2, the more acidic negatively affects orexins.
Hersoug believes the way to combat the environmental, allegedly fattening CO2 is to exercise and and eat more fruits and vegetables.
Well, it's certainly true in the case of algore . . . . . . . and Michael Moore!!
To me the interesting part is what I’ve been told by various atheletes for years. As a group, they don’t drink carbonated drinks when training. They say the CO2 is absorbed into their blood, and their performance degrades. So, they drink water with Mio.
Now, look at soda consumption and obesity ... there may be something there; and I dismiss Global Warming as a contributing factor.
Now I gotta lose weight to save the planet? I thought the population bomb was going to solve this problem when humans started to starve ourselves into extinction. That was back in the 1970s.
How about this, just stop all living things from emitting CO2 and we’ll solidly be able to reduce the level of CO2 emissions on THIS planet anyway. WAIT! If we eliminate CO2 how will we carbonate our sodas? How will I find cartidges for my air rifle?
CO2 despite the fact that its percentage in the atmosphere is 0.04%.
The Beer Belly Phenomenon finally explained!
Fat people fart more.
Methane is a “green house gas”
These people are beyond mentally retarded.
Way, way beyond.
They make normal mental retardation seem like sheer brilliance in comparison.
So glad to find out, it’s not related to sitting on my rear, eating cheetos while spending too many hours on FR.
I am vindicated..woot, woot.
If this were true, then air tight houses would be to blame. Stop insulating now!!
This degree of ridiculous is getting beyond the range of parody.
There is a silver lining to this new “crisis”... we can now stop worrying about the starving children in Africa!
However, global warming will reduce the number of deaths and injuries from snowshoe accidents and falling on icy sidewalks.
Want to bet that all those animals gained weight because they had grains in their food? Also, all that human weight gain over the past 22 years is due in part to people eating more whole grains.
We are getting fat because of too much C6H12O6 in our diets.
Well here’s how I’d look at it.
We’ve already been told that Global Warming causes/leads to Global Cooling. That much is “Settled Science”.
Soooooo ..... we get Global Warming, we all fatten up like bears before hibernation, then the Global Cooling sets in, and we’re all good to go. Free insulation!
I love it!
