SNIPPET: "Azerbaijan has arrested 22 people on suspicion of plotting attacks on the US and Israeli embassies in Baku on behalf of neighbouring Iran, the national security ministry said Wednesday."
SNIPPET: ""On orders of the Sepah they were to commit terrorist acts against the US, Israeli and other Western states' embassies and the embassies' employees," it said.
The ministry said that the suspects were recruited from 1999 onwards and trained in the use of weapons and spy techniques at military camps in Iran to enable them to gather information on foreign embassies, organisations and companies in Azerbaijan and stage attacks, reports AFP.
"Firearms, cartridges, explosives and espionage equipment were found during the arrest," the statement said, without specifying when or how the arrests were made."

“Azerbaijan thwarts terror attack against Israeli, Jewish targets
Security official in Baku links Iran to planned operation; three men detained.”
SNIPPET: “Three men were detained last week after planning to attack two Israelis employed by a Jewish school in Baku, the Azerbaijan Ministry of National Security has revealed. Meanwhile, an Azeri commentator considered close to the republic’s president has launched a scathing indictment of Iran.
The Azeri ministry said it had arrested a cell that planned to “kill public activists,” before it became apparent that the intended victims were two Israeli Chabad emissaries, a rabbi and a teacher employed by the “Chabad Or Avner” Jewish school in Baku. The ministry said that the three men, named as Rasim Aliyev, Ali Huseynov and Balaqardash Dadashov, received smuggled arms and equipment from Iranian agents.”

A Look at Iran
The confluence of Iran, Turkey and Russia...and it's rebellious southern republics.
Now, think about Cyprus...Israel being friendly and helping to develop offshore oil and gas wells. Developing some of their own. Russia sending ships and subs to the area to signal Turkey that Gazprom will the the buyer...and developer with Israeli help.
Turkey, with it's colony on the northern part of the island...pissed.
Russia pissed in Syria where Turkey and possibly Israel are providing clandestine support to the Syrian rebels (enemies of Iran).
And the US interest is ONLY to ensure the survival of Israel...and commercial transit rights to the Black Sea.
We gotta be ready to protect Israel and Cyprus...and have NO DOG IN THAT CAUCASUS SHOWDOWN.
As far as any thinking person is concerned that and the Black Sea are for those other guys to figure out.
Excellent Point. You beat me to the punch

“Alleged Iran Terror Plot Thwarted in Azerbaijan”
by IPT News Mar 14, 2012 at 9:48 am
SNIPPET: “Officials in Azerbaijan say they have arrested 22 people who were working with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in plots to attack the American and Israeli embassies in Aku.
Security officials say they seized “(f)irearms, cartridges, explosives and espionage equipment” during the arrests.
Azerbaijan sits between Iran and Russia on the Caspian Sea. Relations with Iran have been rocky of late.
The country’s defense minister met with senior Iranian officials earlier this week after Iran criticized an Azerbaijani arms deal with Israel. Iran also has accused its neighbor of letting Israel conduct intelligence gathering operations from Azerbaijan, a charge government officials denied.
Wednesday’s arrests are the second involving Iranian terror activities in the past month. Officials arrested 20 other people in late February on suspicion they were plotting attacks for Iran and its Lebanese proxy Hizballah.
The arrests come on the heels of warnings from Israel’s security council that its citizens avoid traveling to Turkey due to imminent Iranian-backed terrorist plots targeting them.
Diplomatic targets appear to be priority for Iran in recent terror plots.”
