Obama compares Republicans to ‘flat earth society’ for stance on green energy
Washington Post ^ | 3/15/2012 | By David Nakamura

President Obama blasted his Republican critics Thursday for their resistance to investing in alternative energy sources, comparing their stance to the beliefs of those who thought that Columbus would sail off the edge of the world.

In another in a series of speeches defending his energy policies, Obama touted his push for green energy growth — including wind and solar power, electric cars and biofuels — as a way to help wean the nation from a dependence on foreign oil. And he mocked his rivals for failing to embrace his ideas.

“If some of these folks were around when Columbus set sail, they probably must have been founding members of the flat earth society. They would not believe that the world was round,” Obama told an enthusiastic crowd of hundreds of students at Prince George’s Community College in Largo. “Maybe they would have agreed with one of the pioneers of the radio who apparently said, ‘Television won’t last. It’s a flash in the pan.’ ”

I was listening to his speech on Rush... He sounds very Rev Wright-like.

The best part is when he said, "politicians show up at gas stations and promise you low gas prices..." LOFL!

Show us the VIABLE TODAY, “green energy” solution that allows our economy to function at its present level and allows the individual the freedom to travel as we do today.

Until that VIABLE TODAY “green energy” source exists,
we need oil, and we need it unrestricted.

All a Republican has to do is tell him to look at what a disaster Spain has become due to doing the same thing as zero is doing.

I heard that the new light bulbs they want us to get are $50 each. Let’s see.... no raises in about 4 years. Increasing state and local taxes, increasing health care costs, gasoline is double what what it was 3 years ago, food costs are increasing at blazing speeds. And we are the lucky ones who have, so far, not had to deal with layoffs and unemployment.

Of course, as we have heard, we are in some fabulous “economic recovery” at this time. So we can all buy the good light bulbs to show our support for 0bama’s green energy development plans. Let me go ahead and jump on the green energy bandwagon. We’ll just makes some sacrifices. Can’t decide whether we give up food or electricity...

He’s so out of touch with the reality of everyday life for most people.

AGW models were based on a flat, non-rotating, “sunshine all the time” earth.

I am actually surprised that his political staff is not cautioning the President regarding how much steam the AGW movement has lost in the last few years.

The only viable green energy sources today are nuclear and hydro. Nuclear is at a near dead stop and the greentard morons can’t tear dams out fast enough.

Its been a total disaster. They are going on over 25% unemployment, 50% among young people. Those are worst than the Great Depression numbers in this country. The only major European country doing well on the energy front is France. Lowest electricity costs per capita, lowest greenhouse gas emissions per capita, most stable employment. Why? Two words: nuclear power. The facts are right there in front of them staring them in the face, but no one in the media will talk about it.

This is why conservatives are at a disadvantage, and have no inclination of doing anything about it.

People (I had to edit out the “B” word) like him and his kind have no problem attacking and mocking.

For some reason, conservatives, who would have a much more accurate and target-rich environment for truth, sarcasm and humor at the expense of liberals, won’t.

Granted, there are many liberals who cannot connect on any issue if there is not a sarcastic soundbite from the likes of Obama, so that works for his base.

I would like a debate of the issues, but does anyone ever see that happening? We have to learn to fight back.

There’s nothing at all wrong with “green” energy, once it becomes cost competitive with fossil fuels. But instead of waiting until that happens naturally as a result of improved technology, the regime is trying to increase non-green energy costs to the point where the overpriced technologies become competitive.

Of course, this will all be moot when UN Agenda 21 is fully implemented and the world population is reduced by 85%.

Thus, my assertion, from the actual results of the policies that they are implementing,

that they don’t really want “green” energy as much as they want “no” energy (for us at least).

...allows the individual the freedom to travel as we do today.

But don't you get it? All that freedom to travel is a danger to the regime...More UN Agenda 21. Pack 'em all (except, of course the elite) into Soviet-style apartment blocks, where they are more easily controlled.
