Newt Gingrich: No One Understands Me
National Journal ^ | 03/15/2012 | By Sarah Huisenga

Posted on 03/15/2012 11:22:38 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

PALATINE, Ill.--Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on late Wednesday expressed frustration with both the news media and the Republican establishment for failing to understand his “large ideas” for transforming American politics.

As calls for Gingrich to bow out of the race grew louder after his second-place finishes in Mississippi and Alabama--two states he said he had a chance to win--the candidate seemed to be in low spirits and offered a grumpy analysis of the state of the GOP primary to a crowd that gathered for a Lincoln Day dinner in this northwestern suburb of Chicago.

“The thing I find most disheartening of this campaign is the difficulty of talking about large ideas on a large scale, because the news media can’t cover it and, candidly, my opponents can’t comprehend it,” Gingrich said, while also vowing to continue his campaign to the convention in Tampa this summer.

He called himself the only candidate of the four still in the contest “focused on ideas and … solutions and not just the usual politics,” and the only one advocating wholesale change to a political system that is “methodically and deliberately stupid.”

Other parts of his speech covered topics ranging from President Lincoln promoting the transcontinental railroad to the antifraud system of the American Express company. Gingrich spoke of the need for a “technological revolution” in government, but he lamented that no one but him seemed to understand that.

“Let me just talk for a second about technology and grand opportunities,” he said. “Other than Ronald Reagan, I know of no Republican in my lifetime who’s been able to talk about this. That’s why I’m still running.” The former House speaker from Georgia has recently focused his campaign on high gas prices, promising as president to restore them to no more than $2.50 a gallon. But he often also speaks at length on a wide range of topics, covering everything from brain science to space exploration to the need to utilize modern management practices to reform entire sectors of the government.

“I want to be the candidate of science and technology,” he said. “Whether it’s on energy, it’s on stopping crooks in Medicare and Medicaid, it’s on getting into space, which I was ridiculed [for], or it is on helping you make sure that your family doesn’t suffer from something that could be avoided.”

And he chided fellow Republicans for failing to see the need for a party makeover. The GOP, he said, has been governing like the Democratic Party since 2006, when it lost control of the Congress.

“We cannot be a normal party,” he told the suburban Republican crowd. “If we run a normal campaign, trying to govern within the framework of the current system, we have no future, because people would rather have Democrats do it. They at least enjoy it.”

The path to victory will not be by getting people to vote against something. Victory is acheived by getting people to vote for something,

And they are voting for Santorum over Romney and Newt. So voters are seeing that Santorum has much to offer. Rush had him on today and he was brilliant.

Any of these others guys got anything like this on their resumes?

You guys remind me of one of my Sailors who kept saying, “I was Sailor of the Year in 1997” in 2010. Well he was not a great Sailor in 2010 but he kept saying how he was Sailor of the Year in 1997. Well what the hell have you done since? Nothing!

Well, how about that? What if Rush had said, “Vote Newt the rest of the way?”

You know, I have not yet been able to figure out the total avoidance thing Rush has been doing with Newt. Makes you wonder! He didn't do this when Pastor Huckabuddy ran. He acted as if he was clueless as to what his buddy Drudge was doing on bloody Thursday.

You would think he would have at least defended Newt against the incessant “baggage” comment. After all, Rush should understand baggage.

The world is certainly tangled these days.

* * * * *

Rush pretends he doesn’t have a dog in the fight, but I listen to him regularly, and he has been damning Newt with faint praise for months. I really have no use for Rush as a kingmaker. The only reason I listen to his show is for when he goes into the details of politics in Washington that no one else will go into. I think Rush really wants Romney to win.

The title was intended to accomplish exactly what it did...too bad many fell right into the trap.

It reminds me of my daughter at the library..checking out a book based on its title. She reads the book and discovers the title was just a "come on" nothing to do with the content.

It is as delusional as thinking...

if gingrich stays it hurts romney

if gingrich stays in it will usher in himself, palin or anybody to save this country

it is insane what I watched on this forum, bachmann, perry bashed and now santorum...all in the hopes that someone that was labeled a RINO (do a search when articles were posted when gingrich announced;he was called a RINO) is reformed.good conservatives were dissed for some one that did not even run and it was posted only they knew it was a spiritual calling of palin ONLY because sun tsu said so and now newt is going to usher in hope and palin. or himself and his inflated arrogant ego?
I thought this was an independent grassroots conservative site.when did it turn into a cult that has no logical goal but enabling obama and
romney?

my thoughts exactly kim jong newt but while it is funny is is sad for this country. I watched the msm spin for obama with michael j fox saying santorum wants to punish people because he would end stem cell research and throw everyones granny off a cliff.we should be worried about obama not turning this country into hell bent facism not some third place candidates ego.

“I think Rush really wants Romney to win.”

Rush is a realist, not a kingmaker. Realville is where we need to live right now. And in Realville USA, the uninformed/disinterested/and emotional voters will outnumber the rest of us in the general. Love Santorum, but he’s got no chance in November with this electorate.

Newt is right. No one else offers TRUE CHANGE or any REAL ideas to change this loser path we’re on to utter destruction. No one.

They’re ALL big spenders, all going to manage the decay. No one candidate plans to innovate or utlize technology in the ways Newt has proposed ....

He may be whiny, but he’s right. We’re far too stupid at this point as a nation to elect someone like Newt. We’re going to get what we deserve for being so dumb.

Newt was my Congressman for all the years from when he moved districts right on up until he resigned. I’m not going to get into nits about him because I don’t want to bash him; I do hope he wins somehow, but reading the article just confirms something to me what I’ve known for a long time about him..

I’m not bashing Newt - I’m not bashing Santorum. Romney I won’t vote for.

Newt has a bit of a propensity to whine. He did it when his numbers were dropping right before the FL primary.

I’m sure you meant to say that rats are voting for Little Saint Ricky simply to vault an unprepared, comically inept and spineless oaf to the front of the GOP pack. Other voters, such as yourself and the other Amen Chorus who gallop to Little Saint Ricky’s defense any time anyone utters a discouraging word, blindly go along singing hosannahs.

There are none so blind as those who do not see. Who refuse to see. You, and all those who form the Little Saint Ricky’s Amen Chorus don’t seem to realize that America is going to reject what it sees (as guided by the MSM) as a Bible Thumping Goof. The sad fact is, Little Saint Ricky really doesn’t have anything to stand on other than his strong “social issues” platform. In all other aspects, he is a big spending, big government prodigal.

In short, you seem blinded by one aspect of the candidate to the extent of all other shortcomings. But it doesn’t matter...

Pray for America. Because when Il Douche and his minions gut Little Saint Ricky like a fish, time and again, it is America that will continue to suffer.
