(Reuters) - Convicted former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich surrendered at a Colorado prison on Thursday to begin serving a 14-year sentence on corruption charges, with TV news cameras tracking his every step.

News cameras followed the former governor being driven from Denver's airport and walking into the Federal Correctional Institution Englewood, about 15 miles southwest of Denver, where he has been assigned inmate number 40892-424. He wore jeans, a navy sports coat and carried a small backpack.

Emerging from his North Side Chicago home early Thursday to travel to the airport for a flight to Denver, an unsmiling Blagojevich, 55, spoke briefly to waiting reporters.

I figure dude's only got to serve until November 4, 2012.

Either way the election goes, he's pardoned on that day.

I’m sure you’re right. Because a guy like Blago would NEVER take the heat alone without an iron clad agreement, methinks.

Blago made noises about knowing where the bodies were buried. Suddenly he shut up. He could destroy this president, but didn’t. Something’s up, where he benefits for being quiet.

Frankly, I’m surprised Blago’s even serving a day. I would have expected Barry’s boys to delay the sentence start.

“Something’s up, where he benefits for being quiet.”

Obama Pardon in January, or why his wife isn’t in prison, too.

Tried to tell my husband this last night, that Blago surely had a deal to shut up and protect some... and that he’ll be pardoned soon enough.

I don’t think so. You’re giving him way too much credit.

He wasn’t so much a big-shot dealmaker on the inside of things as he was a pip-squeak wannabe who happened to have the personality to win elections. Everything he did was to try to benefit himself personally because he wasn’t “in with the in crowd”.

I think they’ll let him rot because they know he hasn’t got anything on them.

Did you catch that he held a press conference last night at exactly 5:02PM? Timed so the TV stations could carry it live...classic Blago...

WGNTV news last night had a feature on this. The reporter made it seem a shame he had to endure a prison sentence, with nothing but loyal supporters (yes, they exist) being interviewed.

Along with this, they reported the Catholic school his girls go to is being closed for budget reasons. They even had Blago on mic saying it’s a shame that at a time their father has to go to prison, his girls are losing their school. This too was made into a crying shame by the reporter.

Today a breakfast, a friend told me he heard the family is moving to Colorado to be near Blago. If true, what’s the big deal about a Chicago Catholic school closing (insofar as his daughters are concerned)? It won’t affect them. In any event, whether they go to Colorado or not, the wife’s father will surely step up and take care of his daughter and the kids.

He is supposed to be broke. It will be interesting to see how his wife supports herself. She was a Real Estate agent involved with Rezko. Someone will be sending her money.

Obama probably gave the same speech that Bob DeNiro gave Ray Liotta in Goodfellas, right before Ray went to jail for the first time, “You took your first pinch like a man and you learn two great things in your life. Look at me, never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.”

I’m not a Blago fan but 14 years seems exccessive?

If this were any of us regular people, we would have been sitting in the can since day 1, and no option to go to Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers for that final hamburger.
