Skip to comments.Carney: Calling GOP "Flat-Earthers" Was A "Policy Message" (video)
Posted on 03/15/2012 1:06:29 PM PDT by Nachum
Jay Carney, White House: It seems even talking about alternative energy sources is funny and I think calling them flat-earthers is appropriate.
Mark Knoller, CBS News: "Isn't that a campaign message?"
Carney: "No! It's a policy message. We believe we have to do this for the sake of America's economic future. It is simply not an option to say that we can keep drilling with two-percent of the known oil reserves in the world when we consume 20-percent of the world's oil. I was a mediocre math student, but that doesn't seem to work out.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Hey, Jim. Nothing is more ludicrous than your party’s belief of SPENDING AWAY our country into oblivion.
“If we 25 oil reserves”
This administration is locked into pseudo...Everything that issues forth from it is false ....They really do believe the American people are stupid and believe their utterances are the gospel
More WH personal attacks on the American people will not help them.
These people amaze even me with their dishonesty and I dont trust any of them.
On the funny side Larry O Donnell on MSNBC has taken up to regularly complaining that the MSM refuses to call Romney's claims ‘lies’ . But guess what, LOD has yet to report on a lie from Obama.
If Romney gets the nomination it really will be a contest of liars.
Correction that’s 2% oil reserves
And I guess not believing in unicorns is intellectually retrograde!
Carney was no doubt right about that!
20% of consumption is quite independent of 2% of reserves.
From what I've read lately, the US consumes roughly the same fraction of rare earth elements, and has roughly the same fraction of reserves. That doesn't stop the Obama Administration from pushing wind power and advanced battery technology, both of which require rare earths.
Another example: The Obama Administration is comprised of 20% of the world's Marxist ideologues who occupy positions of political power, but the US has very few self-described communists.
There’s something like 80 billion barrels of the shores of the U.S., not to mention the oil in ANWR, as well as on other federal lands. The government refuses to let companies tap our own resources despjte the billions in economic output, the revenue, or the jobs it will create. I am utterly amazed the republicans don’t hammer this issue loudly..it is scandalous. Let’s not forget the potential of fracking either. The so-called alternatives like wind and solar cannot match the output of fossil fuels and require the government to a) handicap the oil industry, b) exclude real alternatives like nuclear energy, and c) subsidize them heavily. I’m not against alternatives, but they come from the market place and stand on their own as superior alternatives rather than leftists in government mandating their idelogical hostility to oil production and use.
I liked the rather incomprehensible ad that came out shortly afterwards, ending with “If they were in charge, the earth would still be flat.”
The IBD had a front page article debunking this lie,
but nowhere in the MSM are you going to see it.
They’ll cover for them and amplify the 2% lie.
So says the pofs whose boss blames ATM machines and the internet for job losses.
What a damn joke these people are.
They’d be a “joke” if they didn’t have the power to really screw up our lives.
Statists just don’t get it. Even if they think the “math doesn’t work out,” it’s not up to them to decide. So the Obama administration thinks it has to look to other energy forms to save America. I don’t doubt them. I believe they think they are really doing what’s necessary to wean us proles off of traditional energy for our own (and the planet’s) good, but the arrogance of believing they know what’s best for 300 million Americans is simply astonishing. It’s a fundamental misconception of the role of government. It’s not for them to fix. It’s for them to get out of the way and let market forces find the best solutions! Mark Levin would derisively call these guys “masterminds,” and he’s right. They literally believe they know what’s best for us, as if they designed the oil and coal industries themselves and can make solar and wind viable alternatives with a stroke of a pen.
Obama’s opinion of Americans by Mel Brooks:
Evidently, he isn't intelligent enough to come up with anything else.
The new ‘Jews’. Pretty soon we’ll be required to wear armbands.
While safe-guarding our own natural resources?
That's not fair !!
It is simply not an option to say that we can keep drilling with two-percent of the known oil reserves in the world when we consume 20-percent of the world’s oil. I was a mediocre math student, but that doesn’t seem to work out.
Jay! What in the world are you talking about?
How much oil we consume has nothing to do with how
much we have. There is a disconnect there, one has
nothing to do with the other unless you are of the
mindset that equates quotas to everything.
In which case you would have to be 12% black just
to fit the mold.
Mediocre doesn’t begin to describe you or this administration.
Seems to me that the administration is of the “flat earth” crew. Appears that the only real energy sources to these folks are above the ground (wind, solar, etc). Are they afraid that the earth will sink if too many holes are drilled?
O’Donnell belongs in HELL!
I am so sick of this President and his administration making everything that happens out to be a joke. It’s not funny. It’s scarey that they take NOTHING serious. Like they are a bunch of teenagers! Idiots!
Good article - it shows Obama is either ignorant or lying.

Last time I heard from the Republican House, Boner came out of his cave to trash Limbaugh....
You mean....it ISN’T flat?
While safe-guarding our own natural resources?
That's not fair !!
Bump to see later.
If you took all of the estrogen contained within Sandra Fluke’s countless birth control pills that she has consumed as of this point in her life, mixed it with some cheap muscatel, maybe a couple doses of Vicks Nyquil, and downed it all in one quick gulp, you would soon approach the level of hysterical, intellectual content that Larry O Donnell displays every time he runs his piehole on TV.
If terrorist nations went together and dumped a few $hundred Million into a presidential campaign and got their boy elected, what would their SCAMER do differently than Hussein Obama?
A terrorist President would shut down oil production, would spend like a drunken sailor buying booze, would try to destroy the country morally....
A President Named Hussein would do Nothing differently than Obama. WAIT! Obama is named Hussein.
There’s no leadership from the republicans in the House or Senate; Obamunism has a long list of failed policies such as the trillion dollar stimulus (more than the entire Iraq war), the energy side is simply a veiled attack on real enery solutions while average Americans are paying the price, and his foreign policy approach is to apologize for America existing..it is a crime that the GOP establishment would rather ride in the back seat.
No, they get the spiffy arm bands and shiny boots. We get to wear the "C" patches pinned on our chest. See you at the train station.
Don't go confusing the masses with logic. This is pure propaganda. The 2% and 20% numbers were chosen to make the "math" easy for the sheeple. "Oh look, we need 10 times more than we have".
The simple counter ad to Obama would be to show a gas pump in 2008 with the price at $1.75 and then ding-ding-ding-ding $4.50 in 2012. "This isn't the change you were likely looking for" can be the voiceover.
I will be so happy when these bastards are beaten in November. Watching that fruit Carney have to hem and haw as his boss packs his bags will be nice.
Not gettin’ on that train. All my 90 yo German mother had to do to keep her job was to join the Nazi party. She didn’t and has alot of stories to tell.
She’s having flashbacks and recognizes the danger of these ‘progressives’. I try tell her to quit watching MSNBC.
Perhaps what I'm trying to say is that the interesting thing about lessons from the past, is that we don't seem to learn anything from past history.
I don't mean some of us individually but society & government in general.
I agree. If folks understood what is really happening, we would be well on our way back to recovery. But folks are easily deceived with counterfactual arguments (’Stimulus saved us from a depression’)
Obama likens his ‘movement’ to Mandela (”How to be a Good Communist”) and Gandhi (who wanted Soviet Style Communism without the mass murders) and no one bats an eye.
Maybe Marx was right. There is a inevitible progression towards tyranny. People in the end like to be taken care of.
