Skip to comments.Ma. elementary school changes name of St. Patrick's Day to O'Green Day to be more inclusive

St. Patricks Day is a holiday rooted in Christian values, however secular celebrations are also regularly held to commemorate the day. In fact, for a great many, the religious tones arent even a consideration, as alcohol, Shamrock shakes and other fun-filled elements regularly dominate the days observations. Somehow, though, the holiday is reportedly still too religious for one Massachusetts elementary school.
At the Soule Road School in Wilbraham, St. Patricks Day has been replaced as the name for the schools celebration surrounding the popular holiday. Its been replaced with the generic OGreen Day. MassLive.coms Patrick Johnson calls the move a heavy-handed attempt to instill political correctness among the impressionable 4th and 5th graders.
The schools principal, Lisa Curtin, is apparently looking to become more inclusive. So, rather than tout St. Patricks Day, she has purportedly come up with a way to circumvent the faith-related nature of the holiday. The school apparently did something similar for St. Valentines Day, which, in some classrooms, was referred to as Caring and Kind Day.

And a shamrock will be called “the little green plant with three hearts”.....sometimes four!!
I’m gonna puke.
We, as a nation, are so screwed. There’s really no turning back in some areas. MA is certainly one of those areas.
Hey Lisa Curtin, pog ma thoin.
I knew this was coming as soon as I noticed some years ago that “St. Valentines’ Day” had become just “Valentines’ Day”.
Why not simple call it Evacuation Day?
simply, that is ... sorry, it got my Irish up.
And they learn the dreidal song for Christmas.
Redundancy Warning ...
I have been submitting the following in every thread concerning public schools.
This post does not apply only to public schools in Massachusetts, but throughout the country, no matter how “good” you imagine your public school to be.
The public school is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.
The public school is better understood as the government school collective.
It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is communist.
If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.
If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.
DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!
Especially not with your own children.
If I had children that were in public schools now days, I would pull them out and find a way to educate them myself. This is utter BS!
Like this guy?
Hope it wasn’t in St. Paul, Minnesota...
Then they should change “Black History month” to “everyone history month” to include every body.
Otherwise that’s racist.
Didn’t Saint Patrick drive the Kennedys out of Ireland?
Please remove your children from the government schools. Why?
1) All of them are godless. Just to cooperate in the classroom they must learn to think and reason godlessly.
2) All government owned and run K-12 schools are a single payer socialist entitlement. Simply by attending, children risk learning to be comfortable with socialism. They risk learning that a government, and the voting mob, powerful enough to give them tuition-free schooling is powerful enough to give them **lots** of “free” socialist stuff.
They can not be reformed!
Oh! And,...If your child's school is one to the so called “good” schools, they are still godless and socialist. And...How do you know it is a “good” school? hm? Where are the studies that separate out what is learned in the classroom from that acquired from **afterschooling** in the home. Answer: These studies have never been done.
The incremental destruction of America, one tiny step at a time.
They changed Saint Valentine’s Day to Valentine’s Day. So this doesn’t surprise me, except that these O’Holes didn’t change the name from Saint Patrick’s Day to Patrick’s Day.
For those of you who think Mittens is still the gooberner in Massachusetts, the current governor is a guy named Duval Patrick aka Devil Patrick aka Obama-lite aka the Other Corrupt Midget.
Black history month is not inclusive enough. It should just be “History month”.
So they named it after the Irish Green Day Tribute Band?
The incremental destruction of America, our history and values, one tiny step at a time.
This is 100 percent of the reason we MUST have a President Santorum. Our morals are so down in the toilet that we must have someone who has character and morals as President. The United States is a mess morally and we must change.
More inclusive of what??
I come from a very Catholic background and I cannot recall a SINGLE instance of any religious ceremony or mention of St. Patrick's day in church. Not one. So where does the schools principal, Lisa Curtin, find a need to "circumvent the faith-related nature of the holiday"?
I'll tell you where. In her mind she needs to crap on anything that smells to her like Christianity.
And "circumvent"? Really? Is anything faith-related so insidious or foul that it must be "circumvented"? Pretty strong language there.
Besides, she's full of bull shiite. If it were a Muslim holiday, she'd be scared out of her Depends to change a single about it.
“inclusive” => not Christian
Who wants to bet this principal will recognize the “Day of Silence”,though?
Can't wait for the 109th Boston O'Green Parade!
It’s not cowardice that causes leftists to attack Christianity and leave Islam alone.
It’s the fact that leftists and Islam are on the same side of the whole “Christ v Satan” battle.
Problem is all those delicious sweets they have!
I think you mean Chaunukkah, not christmas.
Maybe Martin Luther King Jr Day will be next. Yes, Dr King was black but:
—a REVEREND. Christian! No way, can’t have that
—he was a registered Republican...
When will that get renamed?
If this was really an attempt at political correctness I have a couple of suggestions for Lisa Curtin (Principas of the Soule Road School):
1. Change the name of the school to “SOULESS ROAD SCHOOL” along with the name of the road on which it sits.
2. Change the name of “CHRISTopher Columbus day” to “Some guy named Columbus day”.
But I’m going to cut Principal Curtin some slack and assume that she (or, more likely, whoever on her staff made up the school schedule for March) was just trying to work the word ‘green’ into that Friday entry. The entry for Saturday does say ‘Happy St. Patricks’s Day after all. Maybe we need to lighten up just a bit and not immediately assume the most base motives to people.
But I do note the calendar shown does say Happy St Patrick’s Day on the 17th itself. Surely the school worker who let that go through will be sacked.
Undoubtedly true in most cases but there are a very few which aren't godless and socialist, keeping a very low profile in flyover country. I would go into more detail about my school but the ACLU would swoop down like a starving hawk and rip it to shreds.
Good thought. Funny how God sets things up sometimes, isn't it? Soul-Less perfectly describes it.
You are so wrong — again. Respectfully.
Destroying every small evidence of any culture in the name of inclusiveness. Hiding all evidence of cultural heritage and leaving us eventually with no culture at all. The idea that we might share in the celebration of each others culture is lost on these idiots.
Lisa Curtin, Principal
So how ‘bout they change Cinco de Maio to “Cerveza and Pupusa Day”?
...just as long as no one wears a tee shirt with the American flag on it..... ;^)
Saint Patrick’s Day is Saturday. How about making them STUDY until the 2:00 bell rings tomorrow afternoon?
March 17th is the Feast Day of St. Patrick (who was Italian, by the way.)
Only because he knew what would happen if they drove themselves.
He would preach on the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
It’s a Holy Day only in Ireland. Outside of Ireland it’s a celebration of Ireland itself. So, will there be no “Black History Month” next year because it’s not inclusive?
Deval is conveniently out of the state this weekend. So he’ll miss the parade and the “Time” at Halitosis Hall. But he’ll be there for the Gay Sex Parade!
