Doug Schoen: Wisconsin Union Protests Prove the Midwest Is Now America's Middle East
Fox News ^ | March 4, 2011 | Douglas E. Schoen, Democratic Strategist

Posted on 03/15/2012 11:16:47 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

With a strong democratic tradition and an equally strong history of confidence in our institutions, the American people – on both the right and the left – have long believed with absolute confidence that the United States is immune to the kind of threat to stability that has rocked and is currently rocking the Middle East – in countries like Egypt Bahrain and Yemen.

This is no longer true.

The United States today is a country that lacks fiscal stability, political stability, and economic stability.

It is clear, with the tens of thousands of public employees that have descended on Wisconsin’s Capitol Hill to protest Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to limit union bargaining– following a week during which 14 Democratic State Senators fled the state and went into hiding to deprive the Senate of a quorum and Madison Wisconsin’s schools were forced to close due to a district-wide teachers union “sick out”–that the legislative process is breaking down.

Put simply, the Midwest has effectively become our Middle East...

“Do they REALLY want to have this fight? Govt unions against the rest of America?”

It isn’t just gov’t. unions; it will be the permanent dependent underclass, the retired dependents, and anyone else looking to the gubmint for income siding with them.

In the Northeast that coalition has been successful for a long time; it is crumbling now due to lack of taxpayer funding. They have decimated the middle class here, and even Obama had to take from Medicare to fund healthcare for our illegal “replacement Americans” (hopefully losing a lot of senior support in the process, though American voters have short memories).

They’d do well to remember who has most of the guns before they go picking a fight with the real America.

They control enough to ignore that; the American people are too disorganized.

Mr Schoen maybe way of base here...

The whole reason for stirring up the hornets was not the cuts, ( but the drones didn't know that ) it was paycheck protection.

Funny thing is...

It just passed the House and Senate in Michigan (for state workers, it may not be all of them) and the Governerd will sign it.

And Trumpka and the rest of his Stalinist have not uttered a peep.

Either they are: out of money, can't go to the mat and get another smack down in the arena of ideas, or they can't get their drones fired up again....

Funny thing is, I know of one drone who was posting on FB about his going their and soooo proud...Mysteriously got fired in a re-org of his company... Hmmmm Schadenfreude Baby...

You had it right the first time. They are parasites.

Problem is, once the host is dead, there is no place else to go. Kalifornia is quickly getting there as is most blue states.

“I agree. I live in Wisconsin and the liberal left shouts louder because they have the union support and the liberal press, but most of the Wisconsinites I know are quiet conservatives, who roll their eyes at the teachers with their undies in a bundle and just let them rant.”.

Well, I too live in Wisconsin and have yet to see what, if any non-union resistance there will be come election time. The unions are VERY WELL organized and push their BS every minute of the day. Will the non-union support base rise up, who knows? Will they vote the unions out? I doubt it will happen because most of them don’t even know what is going on in Wisconsin and for sure the folks on the western border doesn’t. I have spoken with several of them and most get their news from the Minnesota (St. Paul/Minneapolis)liberals news sources.

“the American people are too disorganized.”

Don’t extrapolate your lack of organizational skills onto the rest of America. Other states are doing a great job of driving leftists from power. In fact, I think Walker is about to score a huge victory over the fat union pigs in Wisconsin.

What a difference a year makes! Lets look at WI and IL now.

Quinn increased taxes immensely this last year as a concession to the union while tut tutting what Walker was doing up here...guess what’s happening today in Illinois?

Illinois Unions will be staging protests at Quinn’s home and at the State Capitol over job cuts due to still not being able to balance the budget even after the tax increases.

Walker facing a public union led recall now has the unions at each others throats (private vs public and now teachers unions vs teachers unions) over whether they should make sensible concessions to keep jobs...all while not increasing taxes in our State and balancing the budget.

I guess this makes us the Midwest’s Israel while IL is now our Libya... ;)

Never consedered the western part of the state coming under the evil spell of the Minneapolis papers.
Don’t the fools understand that pre Walker the gubmint was out of spending control.
After Walker many school as well as well as municipal budgets are in the black??

“Public unions were a bad idea from the start ....”

Also because Union reps are sitting at both sides of the bargaining table, on one side union officers ostensibly chosen by the members, and on the other side, to one degree or another, the ultimate decision makers (i.e., funding appropriators) are union-bought legislators.

The Wisconsin recall votes are as important to the health of this country as is the presidential election.

If they win, they'll cower every Pubby state office holder in the land.

“Thanks; I must have imagined the last 3 years...”

You’re right. Imagination plays a strong role in delusion and the extrapolation of fantasies onto others.

I understand its importance; that is why we elected Governor Christie here in NJ. He had the same forces arrayed against him, but a lot of overtaxed voters supported him (and will continue to as long as he is around).

It’s nice to have politicians stop pretending public schools work.
