A court-appointed special prosecutor's report made public on Thursday details findings that U.S. Justice Department attorneys intentionally withheld information from the defense in the bungled prosecution of former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.

The Stevens investigation and prosecution "were permeated by the systematic concealment" of key evidence that would have been beneficial to his defense and "seriously damaged the testimony and credibility" of the government's key witness, former Veco chief Bill Allen, the report said.

The 514-page report, by Washington lawyer Henry Schuelke, was released Thursday by order of U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, who presided over Stevens' 2008 trial and hired Schuelke to evaluate whether anyone on the Stevens prosecution team should be charged with criminal contempt of court.

Schuelke did not recommend criminal charges. He said the problems he found did not rise to the legal level of criminal contempt because the judge never issued any direct order the attorneys disobeyed.

There was enormous pressure from the MSM to "get" Stevens. This is how we ended up with an "independent" senator from Alaska who mostly votes with the Democrats.

I remember all the Freepers bad mouthing Stevens, crucifying him before everything came out. Stevens himself said there was information being suppressed and when the truth came out, he'd be vindicated. When I mentioned this, all the Repub Freepers said I was wrong. Get rid of Stevens. Now who was wrong? Remember that the nx time a Republican is railroaded by our own Republicans. Stevens lost his re-election over it all and it was close. Then Begich voted with Obama. You guys get what you deserve, good for ya.

Alaska doesn't have major city centers over much of the state, it doesn't garner executive support when it comes to spending, that goes to the cities where the votes are; yet Alaska is as big as the Eastern USA. Oil development needs infrastructure to happen or it never does. Stevens & Young use ear marks to accomplish this need. The president does the same under a different moniker, but the money still gets spent.

Conservatives should wake up sometimes to what is really going on.

The Political Whores of the Law Industry, either on the Prosecution Team, or in the Injustice Department, should be publically disclosed and permanently DISBARRED!

Who is the political whore in the Injustice Department who gave the Prosecution Team its marching orders? How about the oath these Officers of the Court took to the Constitution? Is the oath meaningless unless a person in Black Robes gives them a specific order?

No direct order so no big deal. Out and out misconduct by the prosecution and no one held accountable. And lawyers/judges/DA/courts wonder why they are held in such low esteem.

Seems like Stevens would have a good case to pursue.
