Minorities are still largely absent from opinion pages, senior roles and staff jobs in the MSM also.
Maybe the media should look at the tree in their eye before judging the speck in other industries eyes.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I’ve never met a black programmer/coder/systems admin or similar.
What about the lack of White NBA basketball players?
HR will go out of their way to make sure a black applicant for a programming position gets hired.
So if some one wants a job in the computer technical field it is obvious that that is one place to go with a better than average chance of landing a job for some one with the skills.
The obvious question should not be are the firms in question racist it should be why are blacks not seeking jobs in the Technical fields? Perhaps they simply do not want that kind of job.
I know a black that got a degree in computer engineering who eventually became a reactor operator for an electric utility. He decided he did not want to do the computer thing.

Just about every university would welcome an even half-qualified black student. In fact, as Dr. Sowell pointed out, they often accept black students who were not qualified for the college who then fail instead of properly matching their skills with their universities (don't take someone who would be in the middle of his class at a decent state university and expect him to prosper at MIT or Harvard).
I was thinking, if I had an opportunity to mentor a black youth, I’d recommend computer science! The world would be your oyster, it seems to me.
My son has a CS major at this point, poor guy is white though, so, I guess the oyster won’t be his.
Larger companies? Sure, they want quality too, but they also have on eye on statistics. In my experience, large companies are desperately hungry to hire minority engineers. You do not need to be good. They will hire you. Minority female?? My God! Offers will flood your inbox!
Racism? In the tech world? Only really stupid people think that such a thing exists.

There were no blacks - none - in my upper level Computer Science and Math classes.
I met two black programmers in my years of working in the industry.
Why don’t black people take math and programming classes? Obama’s half-brother has a PHD in physics, but he’s the exception that proves the rule.

I'm in a small start-up and the four founders are; one - a Chinese-American with a dual PhD from Northwestern and Stanford, two - an Indian with a Stanford PhD in Digital Signal Processors and the two of us have either CS or EE degrees.
This is not an area for social engineering. With us, results count. You not give a mulligan. We tried the social thing in the 80’s and that ended up sending almost all of our semiconductor EDA and process technology to Japan, Taiwan and China. Politicans gave our technology away in exchange for campaign contributions.
the tech sector isn’t like journalism or general media. members of the tech sector either know what they are doing, or get fired / washed out.
does this mean blacks can’t compete? of course they can.... if they can. all groups have the same hurdle.
hours in a classroom will NOT make you better in the tech sector. hours OUTSIDE the classroom doing self directed study / development does.
if sili valley is forced to implement quotas, you’ll just see more offshore jobs pop up.

I went into tech just because it WAS fair! Math don't lie and isn't subjective. This type of claim is very very very racist, and portrays black people as unable to make it.
BTW, I won't go to Silicon Valley because I don't want to get "into" the California culture, I don't care how pretty it is out there.

I have no objective data, but my observation over the course of my life is that culturally, the black family structure is a mess and the kids suffer academically and in many other ways.
The majority of the culture celebrates lawlessness and despises such things as school work. I think it’s long term fruit from being enslaved (families torn apart, men emasculated etc.) and more recently, welfare, which took away the apparent need for a wage earning father.
There are obviously, some solid black families and some black kids who go against the tide and succeed. But there needs to be a sea change.
They need to start blaming the Black “Cultural Leaders” who shove the notion down young Black male Youths Minds that “educating oneself is selling out to ther white man”....
You need to stop thinking like that.
For much of the 20th century, black folks had good communities, good schools, good churches and good families. They may have been separate -- and their institutions may not have been equal -- but the statistics are there that in terms of unemployment, marriage, childbirth,etc black people were doing just fine in modern America.
Then the Democrats started giving free stuff to anyone who could provide evidence of non-achievement. Rates of non-achievement have skyrocketed ever since.
The black culture of 2012 owes virtually nothing to the 1850's and owes a hell of a lot to the 1960's.

I have always found White, Indian, Asian, Jewish and (gasp) Iranian engineers to be very competent.
Other groups have many individuals who could excel as well.
I suspect that the reason they do not is cultural and poor parenting, mainly lack of a working father who strives to succeed and instill the same values into his children.

The problem with the facial recognition system might not be due to racism, but rather to the problems with the low resolution of the camera. It would be easier to see features on a light background than a dark one.

Well, I don’t know that I’m willing to quit thinking. . .I don’t offer it as an excuse.
When an entire race is enslaved for decades, I think it has some repercussions. How was the integrity of the black family, with a man providing and leading the way, maintained during slavery? They were bred, they were sold and separated, and the men were kept infantalized.
I agree they bounced back admirably well, but, they couldn’t seem to sustain it, and I think that is due to welfare and slavery repercussions. Couldn’t prove it; just an opinion.

This one comes up periodically in one form or another. I remember when I was in college on my CSC major there was a big discussion going on in the industry trying to figure out why there were so few black people on any side of the equation, using software, making software, studying software. It ain’t racist but it is a mystery.
You got that right. Working in this industry I know it first hand.
Just hire the most qualified blacks available to design and assemble the next iphone and ipad for sale only to the black community.

Since 2004, Obama and the cabinet of "his people" have done everything to empower the pathologic culture, stoke the fires of race war and continue the utter failure of blacks in education.
There is much more where this came from. I used to be very connected with education policy, but it got to be just so damn depressing. The solutions are actually quite simple: small (I mean really, really small) schools in neighborhoods where the cohesion can be maintained and there is no chance for this “group” thing. It’s possible, but the unions wouldn’t like it.
So what? They don’t want to put in the effort and sacrifice it takes to educate themselves to get these jobs. So do a lot of whites and every other race. Most people don’t train themselves to be able to do a job that is highly technical.
When will I see a piece from the MSM lamenting there is way, way, way too few whites in professional football and basketball? Given the demographics there should be 70 percent white players. Obviously the NFL and NBA are raciat towards whites, by libtard logic.
