These results are based on Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted March 8-15 with more than 1,900 Republican registered voters, including a sample of 290 Gingrich supporters.
Some conservative Republicans have called for Gingrich to drop out of the race on the assumption that conservative primary voters would then unite behind Santorum as the conservative alternative to the more moderate Romney.
But Gallup data indicate that Gingrich voters would not be likely to coalesce behind Santorum, suggesting that factors other than candidate ideology may be attracting voters to Gingrich, Santorum, and Romney.
Gallup can simulate Republican preferences without Gingrich in the race by removing Gingrich votes and reassigning them to his voters' second-choice candidate. The results of this procedure suggest that national GOP preferences would change little if Gingrich dropped out.
The reconfigured preferences show Romney getting 40% of the vote and Santorum getting 33%. That seven-percentage-point Romney lead is essentially the same as the six-point (34% to 28%) Romney lead in March 8-15 interviewing with Gingrich support included.

Don’t you get it?
Newt is supposed to drop out and endorse Santorum.
If half his supporters are so opposed to Santorum they would pick Romney instead, Newt is supposed to beg, cajole, and essentially DEMAND they vote for Rick.
So that make’s it Newt’s fault should they fail to do so.
Did you know it was Newt’s own fault that Romney took him out when he was the national and Iowa frontrunner, and again in FL, with 30 mil in lying ads?
And that Rick, because of that, supplanting Newt as the non Romney makes Santorum the legitimate one and Newt the illegitimate one?

I am afraid this post is a duplicate, which I did a search on, and it came up clean, so I posted it. The the one based on this poll from yesterday, had changed the title so it did not show up on the search.
But this “Blame” game is ridiculous, and typical of the blatant and voluntary ignorance of the Santorum fanatics.
Yes, it appears to contain the same information, but has a different headline.
My take is, this can’t be shown too often.
The truth is the truth, but when so many believe the false, repetition is about all that’s left as a tool to push the point home.
Only those with a thirst for truth, as opposed to fantasies, will accept it, but there are some in every camp who will.
So, we keep on keepin’ on.
