RALEIGH, N.C. — A high-pressure drilling technique that could unleash jobs and profits but carries pollution risks can be used safely in North Carolina if lawmakers adopt the right precautions, state environmental regulators said in a study released Friday.

The story must be an error as the environmentalists and the Energy Department have told us that fracking causes earthquakes.

Check the lead...”NORTH CAROLINA Regulators”. Wait until the Feds get in there.

Fracking isn’t exactly a new technique. It’s been around since 1947 with no adverse effects.

Hard to believe they separated science from political science.

Too bad that the Tar Heel State is pretty much devoid of oil and gas. Not much to regulate.

The State of North Dakota came to the same conclusion, long before the Bakken became such a ‘hit’. If North Carolina Legislators are looking for a model which works, they probably should get in touch with the folks at the North Dakota Industrial Commission’s Oil and Gas Division, and discuss regulations everyone can live with. There is a chance that many regulations could be flat-out adopted or adapted to fit the geological situation in North Carolina.

Yes but typically, offshore wells require such high-quality reservoirs to be commercial that fracing is not necessary. Other than a large field offshore of Newfoundland called Hibernia, the Atlantic has been a graveyard of dry holes. I believe Mobil found some gas a couple hundred miles offshore of North Carolina in the 1980’s but it wasn’t considered commercial. Better stick to basketball!

Ever been off shore? Sounds like you need some classes! Do you even know how they drill out there?

Dude, like heck yeah. I need some classes. Like Drilling 101. Or maybe Offshore Hole Digging for Dummies. I once swam in the ocean but I got skeered when I saw some jellyfish and hurried back to the safety of the shore. Does that count as going offshore? Ever been to the Biltmore? I really liked the bowling alley.
