Jerry Brown 2.0 finds it tough going
Sacramento Bee ^ | 3/18/12 | Dan Walters

Posted on 03/18/2012 8:41:41 AM PDT by SmithL

Does Jerry Brown ever haul his almost 74-year-old body out of bed in the morning, look in the mirror and ask himself why he ever had the notion of running for governor again, three decades after leaving the job?

If he did, he'd probably never admit it. But Brown 2.0 clearly has found that governing California in the 21st century is more difficult than the scenario he painted for voters in 2010 – that his experience and professionalism would succeed where others had failed.

Last year, he excoriated Republicans for not allowing voters to decide whether taxes should be raised to balance the state budget.

This year, however, fellow Democrats inside and outside the Capitol have made his life difficult.

"I'm working in a tough neighborhood right now," Brown told a gathering of police chiefs the other day, describing the "deleveraging" he's trying to accomplish in state finances.

Democratic legislators are balking at the spending cuts and pension reforms Brown says are needed to balance the budget and persuade voters to hike taxes.

"I can't imagine myself voting for this," Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, said last week about Brown's social service reductions.

Democrats say they're hoping for a brighter revenue picture, but if anything the income side of the budget ledger is looking bleaker than Brown's numbers.

Revenues are running billions of dollars below what current budget said they would be, and the Legislature's budget analyst says future revenue assumptions in Brown's new budget are billions too high.

Therefore, if Brown's serious about being "committed to getting the budget balanced," it could mean much deeper cuts in Democrats' pet programs.

Moonbean was fortunate enough to have a father who made millions of dollars in fees from the importation of Indonesian oil. Otherwise Moonbean would probably be sleeping in a tent at an OWS event.

Majority of Californians get what they deserve. Meg Whitman (who would have brought real solutions, ideas to Sacto) was utterly trashed by the media and lying leftists.
So the majority leftist populace got their Moonbeam redux Part 2. Whoever voted for the old man should not complain about the results.

Give the guy a break, it is tough to destroy the same state twice. I mean, once it is destroyed the first time, there isn’t as much downside. I have confidence in Jerry’s ability to collapse the California economy.

Yup,Moonbeam is a piece of work. I always thought of the 3 Kennedy political sons as analagous to the 3 sons from the Godfather. John as Michael the leader son, Bobby as Sonny the angry son and Teddy as Fredo the idiot!

Poppycock. Meg Whitless is of the same cloth as Arnold. Her "solutions" were little more than window dressing.

This State breathed its last gasp when George Bush and Carl Rove put Gerry Parsky in charge of GOP money. Parksy killed Simon. The rest is mere outfall.

Cowtowing to class warfare envy with threatened tax hikes on the ‘1% rich’ (OWS speak)...while failing to curtail government spending nor reforming selfish UNION demands on pensions is a recipe for further financial disaster. Who needs Hollyweird when the real freak show happens further north in Sacto.

OK Carry—but when its Meg Whitman vs. MoonBeam gotta believe she would still be the better choice. The real issues to overcome are Dem lunatics in Sacto. With Meg there would have been fireworks and they would shoot down most of her ideas anyway. Maybe MoonBeam deserves the Part 2 as karma payback. Meg was stupid in spending so much of her own millions on her campaign. Let Ca go into the toilet and then maybe some eyes get opened finally—or maybe not!

Yep. That nails it perfectly.

No. Elect a RINO and Republicans continue to take the blame for instituting Democrat-lite. We had our chance and the GOP base bought the RINO war cry "Arnold can win" and blew a chance of sanity in Tom McClintock (who would have beaten Bustamante one-on-one).

And look what our "fiscal conservative" Arnold did! He EXPANDED the green bureaucratic straitjacket, just as I said he would. He sold us "cut up the credit card" while he was simultaneously destroying the last of the Gann Initiative protections. He borrowed tens of billions for "infrastructure," and the bulk of the money went to crony deals and bogus Greenie "restoration projects" that have a dismal record for success (and you are talking to someone with a unique record of success in that very field).

So if you think Whitless would have been any better, I've got news for you: She was put up by the same Wilson thugs who gave us Arnold, and she supported cap and trade too.

“Democratic legislators are balking at the spending cuts and pension reforms...”

Because the RATs know the game is over for them once they have to come to grips with reality. The transformation here in California will be breathtaking once there’s really no more money to hand out.

Our moron, Assemblywoman Buchanan just announced that she was working to pass a bill to give “reduced tuition” for everyone at UC and the State Colleges, but nowhere in her blurb does it say anything about where she’s going to get the money.

“”I can’t imagine myself voting for this,” Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, said last week about Brown’s social service reductions. “”

DeSaulnier “rose to become a State Senator” from being a school teacher, so it figures he’s basically stupid. I hate to say “he’s my Senator.”

Now THAT is a TRUE statement! Bush, Arnold the Awful, Rove. These are the men who brought us FUBO. The problem is that the GOP “leaders” are from the same group. New party is needed, now! The GOP simply isn’t salvageable.

The cost to replace 12,000 underground steel fuel tanks (of which 48 leaked) with fiberglass fuel tanks was between $100,000-300,000 per tank, or between $1.2 and 3.6 BILLION dollars, enough to fund FREE college tuition for every student at the university.

Then CARB mandated MTBE, which then leaked through the fiberglass tanks and polluted groundwater with a far worse chemical. So they had to dig them up again.

Those facts alone, plus understanding the crooked process of how that project was initiated would be enough to make conservatives of a third of that student population (my guess).

For better or worse, good Democrats are in charge of a major American state.

"Good Democrats" if you mean something like "good Muslims" or "good lawyers" or "good used car salesmen."

When his term or terms are over he’ll retire to his well appointed home, everyday Californians are the ones who suffer for his mistakes.
