America's Real War on Women
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 16, 2012 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 03/18/2012 9:10:17 PM PDT by TBP

There is a war against women. It is something comparatively new in our national life, and we have to start noticing it.

It is not a "Republican war on women." It has nothing to do with White House attempts to paint conservative efforts to protect religious liberty as a war against women's rights to contraceptives. That is a mischievous fiction, and the president's polls this week suggest it isn't working. Good.

But the real war is against women in American public life, in politics and media most obviously, but in other spheres as well. In this war, leaders who are women are publicly demeaned and diminished based on the fact that they are women. They are the object of sexual slurs, and insulted in sexual terms. The words used are vulgar, and are meant to tear down and embarrass.

Every woman in American public life knows of it. They talk about it in private. They've all experienced it.

The war on women began when abortion became legal. If half the population is female then half of the babies killed prior to birthing could be female. Once you start killing off your children you society and culture has to begin a decline. Ours has.
We now have Jersey Shore on TV to show every high school boy that all girls are sluts and whores. That getting drunk and having sex with anything that moves is just great fun with little or no consequences. We have the DNC staging a dog and pony show with a female activist to cry that women are not gievn enough birth control or access to moring after pills to kill even more unborn females. Yes there is a war on women. That is the quickest way to destroy a society. Isn;t that what the socialist in our Country want?

I was blocked too, but when I clicked through to the article from a Google search for Peggy Noonan, the full article was displayed. Odd.

Here are some of the words that have been hurled the past few years at public figures who are female: "slut," "whore," "prostitute," "bimbo." You know the other, coarser words that have been used. But the point is, these are not private insults. They are said in public. This is something new in American political life, that women can be spoken of this way.

Evidently, Peggy isn't familiar with the way some male politicians are addressed in public. With even "coarser" words.

Why should women in politics be immune from such treatment. I thought they wanted to be treated equally...

When the guy in the basement having his third Grey Goose finally got a telephone line on AOL, he found out he could take his Id out for a ride. He could log on, indulge his angers, and because it was anonymous he never had to stand by his words, or defend them.

It's not the guy on the internet that has changed the tenor of discourse in this nation it has been the talking heads on the Major News Networks.

Get Bent, Peggy.

You led the charge against Palin as not being of the ...proper social class.

Thereby enabling and encouraging the first wave against her.

Twit.

Why should women in politics be immune from such treatment.

And why is any vulgar criticism of a female politician taken as evidence of misogyny? Is vulgar criticism of Obama evidence of misandry?

This is not just about politicians. The culture is becoming cruder and ruder.

Fluke demanded in front of a national audience that Georgetown be forced to pay for her contraception. Fifry years ago would any woman have been given a respectable public forum in which to made such a vulgar, overtly sex-oriented, selfish demand? Would she have been treated like a paragon of American womanhood for doing so?

I can understand the problem Rush had: How do you describe a woman who is so appallingly public about her sex life, and so insistent that she has an all-caps RIGHT to be compensated by others if she chooses to engage in sex? What the hell do you call such a person?

Rush had a little fun with briefly casting her as a "slut," "prostitute," and "round-heeled," while he was also casting his audience and taxpayers as "pimps" and "johns." Noonan and the MSM ignored the latter references, so they could pretend that Rush intended that "slut" and "prostitute" be taken literally.

Whatever words are used to describe her, she is obviously quite a sad, nasty creature. Why should anyone pretend that she has some special virtue because of her sex? It is certainly not a courtesy that she and her fellow feminists would ever extend to any male.

“I thought they wanted to be treated equally...”

I wish they would declare war on men, with the same weapons - preferred access to college admissions, jobs, government business loans, etc.

What nonsense; women were screwed once families needed to push their women into the workforce to feed their children. Apparently a lot of women are missing the good old days (and the children that came with them)...

Yeah, I don’t remember Ms. Perfect Pegs standing up against the horrible things Democrats said about Palin and her children. The constant threats and slanders against her (and Bush before her) were fine with Pegs too.

I remember her being a group thinker and joining the limo-liberal parade which made way for radical Obama to the White House. She is all high and mighty...when it is safe.

Whatever words are used to describe [Fluke], she is obviously quite a sad, nasty creature.

The saddest part, perhaps, of the entire episode. The left used Fluke. And she was happy to be used.

The debasement that people are willing to accept in order to serve the left's agenda is, perhaps, the most appalling aspect of the culture they promote.

When "the highest calling" for an individual is to parade a perverted sex life in the interest of "the agenda", the individual has been demeaned to the lowest common denominator.

Ms. Fluke has revealed herself as a political "slug". If anybody wishes to sprinkle her with salt, I've no difficulty with it.
