Seamus the Irish setter may have died years ago, but the now-infamous story of his rooftop ride has been more firmly cemented into the narrative of the 2012 campaign than his retaliatory excrement was plastered to the back window of the Romney family station wagon during that fateful trip 20 years ago.
The Santorum campaign has referenced Mitt Romneys treatment of his dog Seamus four times over the past week as an anecdote that purportedly calls into question the former governors character.

If you cant be nice to your dog, who are you going to be nice to?

We are all Seamus strapped to the roof of Mitt’s car and we’re going to Canada whether we like it of not.
We are all Seamus strapped to the roof of Mitts car and were going to Canada whether we like it of not.
If we have to choose between Mitt and Obama, I think Canada sounds good.
Bill Clinton got a dog named Seamus too. Is the secret Service still walking it?
Bill only got it for publicity purposes, the same as Socks the Cat.
And Karl Rove, GoProud and the GOP-e are driving the station wagon.
I am a big time Santorum supporter, but this is just stupid.
“We are all Seamus strapped to the roof of Mitts car and were going to Canada whether we like it of not.”
Quote of the day!!!!
LOL, Romney very much deserves this. Maybe he could team up with the Donald’s kids and tell animal tales.
Pink Floyd, "Seamus" from the album "Meddle"--1969.
I would say Quote of the Year.
Santorum is a PETA guy, he probably thinks Romney is abusing the dog just by owning it. The GOP has really sunk low to have these two guys as our best candidates.
LOL!!
Har!
Cordially
-Rome
This plays into a larger theme, that Romney seems to be not quite human. He appears to be a pod person or perhaps has a computer chip in his head that’s remote controlled from outer space. Others have pointed it out, too. He’s a stepford candidate who does a pretty good job of mimicing a person but there’s something lacking.
Most of my dogs have been rescue dogs and something like this really does mean something to me. I’ve taken in more than a few “problem dogs” and don’t have much use for people who mistreat animals even if its out of indifference.
“It” is lacking a soul.
So “the aliens” are telling Romney to strap the dog kennel to the top of the station wagon? Maybe you ought to consider purchasing some tin foil yourself.
He has a point. What sort of depraved idea is it to strap your pup even if in a crate to the roof of the car? The dog goes in the car at my house.
I have no use for either of them. I liked Santorum slightly more until I heard his views that the role of the federal govt was to police the internet for porn. Now I think he is an idiot and a danger to our country.
Seamus could be the most important pet dog since Roosevelt’s pet Scottish Terrier Fala became an issue in 1944.
As far as I can tell, they say it because he supported one of the anti puppy ranching bills. Its not really a conservative vs liberal issue. I’ve got mixed feelings on it myself.
I’ve seen good dog breeders and bad dog breeders.
I call it Seamus’ revenge.
Are you sure about that (Santorum a Peta guy) or are you just tossing it out.
And did Santorum really bring up this story or did someone bring it up to him.
We really need to cool it.
You can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his dog.
Stuff like this may give some buyers remorse.
Guess Newt has not given you some new issue you can use, explains a lot.
I'm with NEWT who speaks on issues.
"Is Rick Santorum a Closet Animal Rights Activist?
Santorum did more than back animal-rights legislation; he even held a press conference in 1995 in which he was pictured alongside Wayne Pacelle, an animal-rights activist who now heads the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). For those of you who dont know HSUS, its positions are similar to PETAs and no, they dont run your local pet shelter; in fact, HSUS doesnt run a single pet shelter in the U.S. and only gives about one percent of its money to pet shelters. What HSUS does is spend its money on anti-farming and anti-hunting campaigns."
The rural vote is Republican here in Pennsylvania many here simply refused to vote for him in his last Senate race. Part of the reason he lost
Maybe it is Seamus.

bttt
I read the article. HSUS is not PETA.
If you think HSUS is so damning, say HSUS.
P.S. I live in Illinois and didn’t like the bill that closed the horse slaughterhouse. I am a Santorum supporter who never claimed he was perfect. I am happy to support the best candidate who did not push an individual healthcare mandate. Santorum is so much better than Romney. The job is to STOP ROMNEY.
I told people in Georgia to vote Newt. I told people in Virginia to vote Paul. In Illinois and Wisconsin, the best way to stop Romney is by voting Santorum. Several Newt delegates in IL switched to Santorum because they realize that truth,
Vote whichever way slows Romney down. We no longer have the luxury of getting every single detail right. Romney will be the end of the conservative presence in any meaningful way in the Republican party. He will credential an entire new generation of RINOs.
Oh, and regarding the press conference, that is no different than Pat Buchanan appearing with Lenora Fulani (which doesn’t make Buchanan a Black Power Marxist) or Sean Hannity with Dennis Kucinich, praising Kucinich for demanding that Obama get congressional approval before heading into any more countries.
In any event, SANTORUM IS NOT PETA.
You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.
James D. Miles
Wasn’t that Buddy? He was hit by a car at around 3 years old if I recall.
“He [Santorum] said our government should enforce our existing laws [on decency and pornography]”
We need less government intrusion in our lives, not more. Not a president who will seize more power through his administration so that he can pick and choose how he interprets and enforces the law. That would make him no different than Obama. Think long and hard about that.
I listened to his words, not the media spin. The problem was his words.
That mentality is the last thing this country needs. That mentality made the mess we are dealing with now. If things are ever to get better, it needs to go.
>> The Santorum campaign has referenced Mitt Romneys treatment of his dog Seamus four times over the past week
Excellent. Now if we can get some dirt on the way Obama treated his kitty cats.
Ahhh.... wake me up from this nightmare!!!
Buddy got hit by a car so they got another dog and named him Seamus.
Of course the dog was mere window dressing, like Buddy, just another photo-op for Bill, I think he walked him once, then the Secret Service got the job.
I was wondering what happened to him.
Has anyone asked Seamus’ opinion? Maybe he wanted to ride on the roof.
