Oprah Winfrey’s struggling television network, OWN, said Monday it is laying off one-fifth of its workers and restructuring its operations in New York and Los Angeles.
The decision to let 30 employees go is a “tough” one, but the economics of a start-up cable network didn’t fit with OWN’s cost structure, Winfrey said in a statement.
“As CEO, I have a responsibility to chart the course for long-term success for the network. To wholly achieve that long-term success, this was a necessary next step,” Winfrey said.

That was my thought. Why doesn’t she ask her friend Obama to bail her out? After all Oprah is too big to fail ... whoops, I mean her network. Sure he would be more than willing to spend our taxpayer dollars to help another friend.

When you back a country destroyer like Obama, you immediately lose at least half your audience. Oprah jumped of the cliff into the abyss of failed POTUS, Barack Hussein Obama. Ms Winfrey isn’t stupid. But OWN was.
Two points I would make.
1. She’s extremely wealthy, and could afford to subsidize her namesake network if she chose to do so, if it was that important to her.
2. She must have CPAs and MBAs and business advisers. And those people would have told her that a start-up network would be in the red for a time, perhaps the first few years, and would need a subsidy to survive, until it turned a profit. Did she listen to her advisers? Did she overrule her advisers? Did her business mis-management run this network into the ground? What kind of CEO is she? Why isn’t she laid off???
I’m waiting for the media to report what a heartless SOB she is for firing all those hard working people.
She needs to remember that she must put on shows people will watch—not what she thinks they should watch. Its about what people want—and it aint you or Rosie.
Procter and Gamble has started to lay off 1,000 or so workers in their marketing department as a result of their wasted 3 year ad deal with OWN. Oprah suckered them and now they’re paying the price.
