After it was reported Monday that Malia Obama was going to Mexico for spring break with 25 Secret Service agents, people began to notice that such reports were being scrubbed from the Internet.
Politico's Dylan Byers reported Tuesday this was done at the request of the White House:
The AFP page for the story now links to a story titled "Senegal music star Youssou Ndour hits campaign trail," as does the Yahoo page. The Huffington Post page now links directly back to the Huffington Post homepage. The Daily Mail, Telegraph, and Australian stories now lead to 404 error pages, reading "page not found."
In an update, Byers explained who was responsible for the scrubbing:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.
Must be nice to command such an obedient media.
Cost of 20 to 25 Secret Service Agents for 1 week plus travel and you know they would not be armed....ye think

I would tend to agree, but certainly there must be limits.
No security problems would arise if the reporting occurred after the trip was completed. And certainly if large amounts of PUBLIC money are being spent on the President's childrens' vacations, there has to be a point at which the PUBLIC has a right to know about it. And isn't it funny that we're allowed to know where they go to school (without their parents) but then we're not supposed to find out where they go when school is closed and they're livin' large on the taxpayers' dime.

No, we sold corn fritters and salt to make money for the school. I'm talking 1950's. In grammar school and high school, there was no such thing as school sponsored trips in this country or overseas for any students. Living in NY State, the only foreign country I traveled to was Canada, and that was after I had been married with two kids. I finally made my first trip to Europe when I was 58.
I’m not in favor of ridiculing politician’s kids, although I do remember that all of them - until now - have been ridiculed by the press, conservative or liberal. Poor Amy Carter, whose sin was looking like any dorky 11-year old, the unfortunate Chelsea Clinton, who inherited her parents’ - uh - looks, the Bush girls, whose sin was being good looking and going out on the town (on their own dime) - I don’t think this was a good thing, but what I want to know is why the press suddenly developed such solicitude about Obama’s kids?
Oaxaca is not dangerous (I was there less than a month ago, so I can say that from personal experience) so there’s no more security risk there than anywhere else. IMHO, this radio silence is just to avoid stirring up the taxpayers by letting us know that we’re paying for the spring vacation of the heiress and a dozen of her spoiled 13 year old friends. That’s why I think it’s legitimate to talk about it.

Exactly, FRiend. If the articles are pulled they should be replaced with a report explaining the reasoning and highlighting Barry’s recent comments dragging his early teenage daughter into sensitive debates.
Barry treats his kids as political footballs and he has no problems publicly embarrassing them as long as it suits him. But the second they could be a political liability (cost and morality of Mexico trip) he pulls the kids are off limits card.
I wonder whose other children are involved....
